Oamaru's Victorian Precinct

The town is rich in limestone, known as Omalu stone, and many of the buildings of Danidine are also obtained from this stone, such as Danidine station, the University of Otago building and so on. Of course, the old buildings in the town mostly use such stones, especially the street Harbour St., which is full of hand-made works to dig treasures.

Omaru should belong to a place with historical accumulation. Although the history of development here is not long, the locals can pay special attention to retaining various buildings with specific historical significance, so the whole city looks older and more historical. Omaru is 88 km north of Danidine, a major town and port in the southeast of New Zealand’s South Island, home to New Zealand’s best preserved commercial historic buildings and blue-eyed penguins. Once a lively gold rush town in Victoria, this town is now only quiet and Victorian limestone buildings. The pace of life here is slow, as can be seen from the town's representative transportation, the bicycles with front wheels and large rear wheels.

Omaru has two different species of penguins, blue penguins and yellow-eyed penguins. The Blue Penguin Conservation Center in Omaru is a colony of blue penguins. Yellow-eyed penguins can be seen at a special viewing point in Omaru's Bushy Beach.
