It is the site of the Suruga clan's clan school, later Shizuoka Gakumonjo. A stone monument stands on the promenade along the moat of Sunpu Castle Park. I stopped by during a walk.
Scholars who belonged to the educational institution of the former Tokugawa Shogunate taught Japanese classical literature, Chinese studies, and Western studies

The Suruga Fuchu domain established a Fuchu junior high school office in the former standard residence (near the present Shizuoka District Joint Government Building) located in the four foot gate of Sunpu Jo castle for the purpose of training the talents of the domain in 1968 year 10 month. The following year, Sunpu was changed to Shizuoka and became Shizuoka Gakumonjo. In this school, those who burn in the mind of the school are allowed to enter regardless of their status, and the education of the former Bakufu such as Komura Mukoyama, Shinichiro Tsuda, Masanao Nakamura, and suehachi Toyama ...
It's easy to think that it's not a great place in terms of location, but I think this is a monument to a great place. At the time of opening, professors, students, and books were transferred from Shoheizaka Gakumonjo, Kaiseisho, etc. (I think those who studied Japanese history know it). History enthusiasts visit and have no loss!
In Sunpu, a confined place of Yoshinobu Tokugawa, he opened a school for the teachers and disciples of former Shogun's vassals (though it seems that he planned to rebuild the domain). It is said that 1,000 students have been invited to study at home and abroad, and they have accepted applicants. The school was closed in a few years, but it opened the way to physics and chemistry and helped to advocate freedom of speech. There is a monument on the site behind the Legal Affairs Bureau.

Along the moat.
I was walking along the moat of Sunpu Castle. There was nothing else to surpass those days besides the stone monument.
