Contemporary to me suggests modernity and, to a degree, flamboyance. This museum has neither: a large proportion of the exhibits are from the 1950s; none fall into the category of sparklingly modern. ...
Very hard to find
Incredible sculpture for such a small town. Make sure your hotel draws you a map or ask whomever you see standing around. Matera is an easy place to get lost.
Stunning
Quite hard to find but it's well worth persevering. An outstanding collection housed atmostpherically in an outstanding setting.
The MUSMA is, by the place where it is located and the use of space to integrate its permanent work and temporary exhibitions, one of the most beautiful museums I have visited.
Located in the unique exhibition area of the elegant Palazzo Pomarici (16th century). About 270 modern and often bold works. The collection includes sculptures, drawings, graves and other items.
