The Caohu Water Town of Luntai is a bit far from the center of Luntai, but it is not a distance from Xinjiang. Caohu Water Town is actually a lowland in the Tarim River Basin, surrounded by Populus euphratica forests. When the Tarim River rises in summer, it forms a small lake with a good scenery.

Caohu Water Town is located 90 kilometers from Luntai County and 62 kilometers southeast of Lunnan Town, which is the rarest Populus euphratica water town to date in the Tarim River Basin.
