Guinigi Tower

Guinigitta (Torre Guinigi) is a famous tower in the center of Lucca. It is a typical example of the local Romanesque Gothic architecture. The tower is 45 meters high and has 232 steps to the top, dating back to the 1300s, when many wealthy families were building a bell tower within the walls of Lucca as a status symbol. It is one of the few remaining towers within the walls. It is famous for the tall trees growing on the top of the tower.
