Wuerhe Wind City, also known as the World Devil's City, is located in the Wuerhe mining area downstream of the Jiamu River on the northwest edge of the Junggar Basin in Xinjiang, about 100 kilometers away from Karamay City. There is a unique wind erosion landform here, strange in shape, called by the locals as 'Surumu Hak' and 'Shayitankerxi', meaning Devil's City. In fact, this scary Devil's City is a naturally formed Yardang landform, Yardang means 'steep hill' in Uighur. Yardang landform is a type of wind erosion landform formed in a dry and windy environment. The hills are blown by the wind to look like various buildings, some like the Six Harmonies Pagoda on the Qiantang River, some like the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, some like the Pyramids in Egypt, some like Angkor Wat in Cambodia, and even some like a soaring eagle.
