Since ancient times, the ancient city of Wuzhou has been famous in the south of the Yangtze River for its dual-city structure (sub-city and prefectural city). The sub-city was built in the third year of Chuping in the Eastern Han Dynasty (192), and the prefectural city was built in the third year of Tianfu in the Tang Dynasty (903). It was renovated many times during the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. After the renovation during the Shunzhi period, it was known as "the city of Liangzhe is the first". It was once a gathering place for government offices, supervisory offices, examination halls, and Confucian temples in history, and it was the political, cultural, and military center of Jinhua in all dynasties. After thousands of years of vicissitudes, the ancient city of Wuzhou has withstood the ravages of war and the impact of urbanization, and the overall structure has been destroyed to a certain extent. However, Bayong Road, Jiufang Lane, Gulouli, and other blocks still preserve about 15,000 square meters of historical buildings. It is the only relatively intact one in Jinhua City, carrying the history and blood of Jinhua. The ancient sub-city is rich in history and culture, and there are a total of 54 cultural relics protection units and registered historical buildings preserved to date. There is one national key cultural relic protection site (the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom's Prince Shi Mansion), four provincial cultural relic protection sites (the Bayong Tower, Yongkang Kaoyu, the former site of the Taiwan Volunteer Corps, and the office of General Li Youbang), six municipal cultural relic protection sites (the former site of Zhejiang Chao, the General Tower, the former site of the Zhenshen Church, the former site of the Gospel Hospital, the Exhibition Hall of the Three Heroes of the He Family, and Mantang Academy), three cultural relic protection sites, and 40 registered historical buildings.
