Tayao Cave (Grotto 39)

The pagoda cave cave is located on the west side of Datong Yungang Grottoes, which belongs to the caves dug in the late Northern Wei Dynasty (end of the fifth century AD). The scale is not large. The stone carvings of the Buddha statues have been completely Chineseized and closer to ordinary people.

Late Yungang Grottoes are mainly concentrated in Grottoes 21~45, including Grottoes 4 in the eastern region and Grottoes 14 and 15 in the central region. Grottoes 39 are also called Tayao Caves, which are the largest caves in the western caves. The cave doors are arched and decorated with honeysuckle grains. Two bright windows are opened above the caves. The central five-level tower is 6 meters high. The square tower is opened on all sides of each floor, and the statues are made in each. The square columns with harvest points are carved between the walls and cages. The wide height between each floor is smaller than the lower floor, and the stable and beautiful. The accurate engraving and complete preservation of tower pillar building components is an important data for studying the early pagodas in China.

After the 20th Grottoes, it is the western grottoes group of Yungang, mainly the 21st to 45th Grottoes. At the end of the western grotto group, I saw a square pagoda in a cave, but this cave on a relatively high level of steps, from the outside can only see part of the tower, thinking of seeing the whole view of the tower, I ignored the image of the hands and feet and used to climb into the hole. Climbing into the cave, I saw all the towers. This is a 6-story pagoda on four sides. Each floor has 5 Buddhas. But the statues in the Buddha are also like a supporter. It is not a professional that can only be broken. However, because of this period, the Northern Wei Dynasty has moved to Luoyang, and the statues of Yungang Grottoes have also subsided. People seem to be more enthusiastic about carving some of their favorite content in the grottoes, and the statues in the grottoes are also for people and flying. The four walls in the grottoes are also not filled with Buddhas and statues.

The four walls of the cave are carved with thousands of Buddhas, and the central square tower is integrated, which can be called the last classic of Yungang.
