We arrived during load shedding, which meant that Elri, who had tested positive for Covid earlier that morning, wasn't able to check our reservation or offer any personal service. Hpwever, after the power was restored, we went to our prepared room, unpacked and settled in for our one night stopover. The room was clean, comfortable and equipped with what we needed for a self-service light supper. A good night's rest in a comfortable bed and we left early the following morning, unfortunately, without seeing Elri. Elri, trust you have recovered and will experience any long term effects. Best wishes. Bill & Joy Phelps

Apart from having the most awe-inspiring view anywhere on ”the Mountain”, the hotel definitely places itself in the upper-end of it's 3-star rating. Rooms are exactly what you'd expect and staff are more than willing to assist with any extra's you may need. Given the unpredictable nature of the weather system in the mountain, pack for all-seasons. It can go from sunny to rain and back to full sunshine in a matter of hours. The Phoenix & Fireman Bar is a treat, with plenty to drink and eat, warm and friendly staff with a few locals dropping by for a cold one or three. The coffee shop is generally open when the guest count is low, do do not expect the full dining-hall experience every evening. The same applies for breakfasts: The hotel is known for its immense breakfast spread, but is also subject to the number of guests staying. The Menu has been considerably reduced and does not offer a wide variety of choice, even compared to local eateries. Long-stay guests will quickly get tired of the menu. Unless you're a bookworm, long-stay guests will need to find something to do outside of the hotel. Rooms are neat and cleaned daily, and relatively large. Double-suites are exceptional and offer a full kitchen, full lounge and wash-up area: A Home-away-from-home for families. All Hotel amenities are also room-deliverable, so the recluse can enjoy some peace and quiet. Power does seem to be an issue as it is an isolated part of the mountain, however a full generator is on-premise. Parking is mostly under-tree, but more than sufficient for even the largest groups. The staff are what make the Hotel, and this should not be discounted. They will bend over backwards to accommodate even the toughest or most whimsical guest. No request is off limits! The gardens are all well-maintained without going overboard with neatness (this is after all, a Mountain hotel) . The Red Postbox is a historical pub with a bit of a dark history and is recommended that, should you arrive, take your first drink within it. Be advised that the Hotel is located within a Samango Monkey sanctuary as well as being home to a number of critically endangered butterflies and moths. Bird watchers can expect a treat as there is plenty going on in the expansive Hotel gardens! The waterfall-hike is considered a medium-to-advanced hike and should not be taken lightly.
