Phutawan Kan Resort

Located about 7km north west of the town, the staff are all friendly and helpful. I have rented a small motorbike to get me around, a necessity which means I can go where and when I desire, small money so no problem! Have been to the cemeteries and museums to pay my respect to ALL who suffered during those darkest of days. I have also been to the original wooden bridge constructed by the POW’s and others, it is located in the JEATH museum adjacent to the bridge that is in use these days. Entry cost 50 Baht, and there is so much to see that I took two hours inside, would recommend a morning visit so you can view the many items and read the facts behind them at your leisure. The museum has been set up by a local man and is most definitely worth visiting. 100% value for money! I mentioned to a Thai man inside that we were so grateful that people around the area did try to ease the suffering of the POWs, risking their own necks by doing so. My mother was an innocent child at 7 years old, alongside her mother and little sister she waved goodbye to her father, John Francis Egan, he said he was going to work for a while!! After working in Turkey, his ANZAC unit were moved on to Italy, to partake in one of the harder campaigns of the war. His life was taken by a German bullet at Mount Casino, alongside many many others! Please understand how one can feel. I try my hardest to be non judgmental and tolerant these days. I have not walked in your shoes and do not know your story. “Footsteps in the sand” comes to mind at this moment. I have PTSD myself, and I knew coming to Kanchanaburi may get emotional, and it has. Now my mother is 88 years young, and became a great grandma for the second time two weeks ago. Apologies if it got too personal, started as a review of the Phoo Tawan hotel. Words are insufficient, our gratitude to all who risked their own lives and those that paid the ultimate price. Life is precious, please enjoy the moment. Peace, love and joy to all who inhabit this world. ONE LOVE
Chez Bure - Bure Homestay

It’s a simple hotel. Has lots of parking space beside the building. Room has complimentary bunch of bananas, few pieces of sponge cakes, coffee and tea and 2 cans of Singha soda drinks. Has a clothes rack at the balcony. A recliner chair. Comfortable bed, quiet air con. Water pressure is good. Strong Wi-Fi. Nothing more to ask for. Everything we need is there. At night no reception, but the key card will let you open the lobby main door, another door that lead to the lift. So is double security system. About 1 km to Jeath Museum, 1km to JJ Night market, 650m to wash and go laundry shop. We love this small little hotel.

I had booked for one night, intending to leave for Bangkok early the next morning. At checkin, when informed by reception that there was a bus going to Erawan National Park, I decided to stay one more night. The reception staff came out several times to ensure i caught the bus which i waved down right in front of the hostel. Really appreciate the care given by this staff member. The point i wish to bring across in this post is, you can encourage the free and easy travellers to stay a day or two longer if there are places of interest within eady reach. I had a wonderful day at the park and a most restful night at thd hostel. Highly recommended!

This hotel is located in a quiet valley, surrounded by green mountains, quiet and peaceful, suitable for travelers who like quiet, but the hotel environment is excellent, there are mountains and water, standing on the balcony can see the opposite peak, and the small river valley under the feet, you can also take a boat from the hotel's pier to the river. In addition, the hotel is also suitable for families and friends to travel together, because the roof can be used for open-air barbecue, very emotional. The hotel is fully equipped with an electric kettle, soap, shampoo, but no toothpaste toothbrush is provided. The room was clean and the staff was very good. The hotel serves three meals and tastes good. If you want to eat outside, there are good roadside restaurants around for a few minutes, delicious and cheap. In short, the hotel is not in the lively area, but it is located in the middle of Ailuwan National Park and the Guihe Bridge and the Death Railway. It is about half an hour's drive in both directions. It is very convenient for motorists. It is highly recommended for this quiet and beautiful hotel.

Hotel and room was clean but the hotel room was a bit too expensive for what it basically was. Paid a little less for another hotel room nearby earlier which was way more luxurious and modern. Anyway, nice place.

Location is good, walking distance of 10 to 15 mins to all major attractions,7-11 and resturants. However, the lane gets eerily dark after 7pm. The rooms are really spacious and the bed is superb. The bathroom is also good. Breakfast needs to be improved for vegans or vegetarians, as the standard options cater only to non-vegetarians. There is no lift so people who have difficulty climbing 2 or 3 floors need to consider that aspect. The staff is really amazing and very friendly. The rooftop swimming pool is good but not cleaned so we did not use. The view from the property is not of the River Qwai so if that is a must, do not select this hotel. Toiletries do not include a separate conditioner, and only 1 ltr of free water is provided daily. Overall, it was good stay, but I will stay next time on riverside hotels.

The lady at the front desk was kind. The hotel has a swimming pool and a simple gym. It is conveniently located right outside the hotel in the downtown area. You can reach the nearby night market in 10 minutes on foot. There are also many Thai massages nearby, which is very convenient.
