The hotel is located in a convenient location where we can easily commute around the city centre and the Bicester village. Sadia was really nice and helpful. She greeted us with a warm welcome. Rooms were quite small but they are clean and tidy. Overall, it was a great time staying at the hotel.

The room is very clean, the service attitude is very good, check-in and check-out are fast, and the service is smiling. The sanitary conditions are very good, and the shower water is very comfortable. I will stay here again in the future.

We stayed here using a golf break deal that they had on at the time - just over £100 each for a night in the hotel, 2 rounds of golf, a 2-course dinner and a breakfast. That alone was really good value for money! When we arrived, they upgraded our room for free as it hadn't been filled - first example of amazing customer service! The dinner menu and the food was amazing, and we have decided to come back just for the chance of ordering something different next time. We found the curry a bit too spicy and they offered us a free dessert to make up for it - second example of amazing customer service! The rooms are impeccable, spacious and clean. Good beds. The golf course is thoughtfully designed, although the greens are very unforgiving! We enjoyed the challenge. We did not use the spa facilities on our stay.

After reading som of the reports my friend and I were fearing the worst! But we thought is was great! Yes a bit tired, and in need of TLC, but that will come in time! Main issue we had was we arrived and told our room was ready, Room 20, and walked in to see it definitely wasnt ready! :) Called reception, and the Housekeeping team were at our door in minutes! We were off out for lunch and a walk so it was no big deal! We had dinner in the restaurant, although the menu was very limited, the food we have was lovely, really good standard! The restaurant lights could of been a bit dimmer, bit more atmospheric, but just an opinion. The deal we were on allowed us to have an aperol spritz, we did ask if we could swap the aperol out, as neither were that keen, but this seemed to cause an issue and we were told no. It had to be that drink and nothing else. But for us, to allow us to just have a glass of prosecco instead would of actually cost them less! I feel they could of allowed the swap, it wasnt difficult, but again, not a major issue. All the staff we encountered were great, the night manager was a right character and rounded up our evening great! We didnt make it to breakfast so unfortunately cannot comment, but overall we were really pleased we stuck with our booking. If you are considering this hotel, go, stick with it, and give these guys a chance. If you are not happy with something, tell them while you are then, and give them the chance to right any wrongs. :)

The bed was really uncomfortable. It's a cheap bed with springs that you can feel and when any of you move it disturbs the other as the bed shakes. I would have thought this hotel would have better quality mattresses, id rather stay in a travel lodge next time

This hotel is in a great location, close to the train and bus stations. The check-in people were very friendly and let us leave our suitcases when we arrived before check-in time. They gave us a helpful detailed map of the major sights to see. When we returned to check in, they had already put our suitcases in our room upstairs. Our room was quiet and clean and came with a fan. The staff also let us store a sandwich in their refrigerator. Overall, a great stay for a reasonable price. I would definitely stay there again.

The location of the hotel is excellent, just on Gaoye Street. It is very convenient for shopping, shopping and eating. It is only a 5-minute walk from the bus station. The interior of the hotel is relatively clean. It is very suitable for traveling and staying.

As a guesthouse we should compare it to other guesthouses but not when they are charging hotel prices. On arrival the staff was very rude. On being lectured on arrival we were asked to pay beforehand and then told our room was in the basement and my in laws were upstairs. On arrival at room I noticed mould on one wall, and it was 32 degrees and the room had no air conditioning. There was a very small shower room and I am generous if I say the tv was 10 inches. My in laws could not stand in their room, due to the sloping roof and had no place to hang their clothes. I went to reception to ask if they had a room with air con to which he said they were fully booked. I asked about their cancellation and refund policy and was told right now if I wanted it. I went to discuss it with the family when my son appeared and said that we had been asked to leave immediately because our attitude was not to be tolerated. I was upset but nothing major. Anyways I was very glad to see that the nearby travelodge had rooms at a mere £20-£30 more for the 3 days and proceeded to book and leave the said guesthouse. Ok the travelodge is a bit further away but you have taxis, buses and e scooters so no hassle in exchange for the comfort. My wife had stayed here years earlier and said that the standard has dropped significantly, with what was our room having been a breakfast lounge before. Having been in the hotel industry I found the guest house way below standard for guest house standards let alone travelodge/premier inn prices which he is charging. Customer service is key and these gentlemen had none:. Please do yourself a favour and do not stay here. Oxford has plenty of choices do not be fooled. This guest house should be downgraded by all sites and even inspected. Deplorable deplorable and more deplorable. A course in customer care is also essential for the staff here. It was our first day and nearly spoilt my holiday, had it not been for the abundance of options available at the click of a button.

Arrived on a very warm Friday evening (32 degrees). Comfortable room on the secnd floor. No lift, stairs only. No air conditioning in the room, although the windows were open. The duvet was winter weight and it was too hot to sleep in the bed, so I lay on top of it. Fortunately I had brought my own portable fan as there was none in the room. Parking in the nearby car park is free after 6pm. The room had an ensuite bathroom with shower, bath and plenty of towels. Only soap provided. Tea and coffee making facilities were in the room. The staff wre friendly and the desk was manned when I departed just after 6am. My room overlooked the high street and having to leave the windows open due to the heat, the room was very noisy, as it was a Friday night and there was a lot of late night revellers. I needed to be up early at 5.30am. There is a Saturday market and there was a lot of clanging of metal poles while the traders unloaded their vans to set up their stalls. The rate I paid was fair value and there was little that could have been done to offset the heat, bearing in mind the Bear is located in an old building. Had it not been a very hot night, the room probably would have been quieter with the windows closed. I would certainly stay again, but preferably during cooler weather!

We booked a single night's stay at this hotel to visit family in Maidenhead. The hotel was clean, comfortable and in a wonderful setting on the river. We were all made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived, Ashley on reception was friendly and made us feel at home. We only ate breakfast in the restaurant but this was enjoyed by all, including my fussy children. We will stay again on our next family visit.

Quiet, clean, good price. Could possibly do with a refurb but everything works well. Bed was comfy but squeaky. Great value for money, great for exploring Oxford and just somewhere to sleep. Lots of shops nearby. Would be an hour walk to the centre of Oxford but we just got a taxi which was £11. There was also a bus.

The first person we fell in love is the manager Daniel Kiss. even we have never got a chance to meet him in person. Very pleasant and helpful with booking our stay. Always replied our email promptly. The second person is his colleague. It’s a shame we never got his name. Very helpful and friendly upon check in. Love smiling ☺️. Helped us retrieve key and open the door to our hotel. The room is very big and clean. It has everything you need inside the room. Even microwave. Plates and utensils. Bathroom is very clean. We stayed at the main floor. Not noisy even our room is facing main road. There’s a bus stop just right in front of the hotel. My husband and I enjoy walking. So We walked all the way to the city center and basically walk as far as our legs can take us. We will definitely go back again and highly recommended. Shame I don’t have any photos of the hotel.

We went to visit oxford for a family trip. We arrived at Athena Guest House in the evening where we were left outside in the cold for at least half an hour with elderly grandparents and a baby, while the person there tried to figure out which rooms we were supposed to be staying in. They had ignored previous enquiries my sister had made in the run up to our visit. The lady in charge spoke loudly on the phone and ignored my sister who was trying to ask for help about details she had to fill in. This lady then went on to demand that one person made the payment for the whole group before we saw the bedrooms. It is now clear why, because the rooms were in very poor condition and there was no disability access. The person in our party that is disabled was carried up the stairs and into the property and could not access the sink in her room. I was sent to a different guest house with other members of my party. We were expected to share a bathroom with strangers (during a pandemic), the room was unclean, the floor was peeling, chair ripped and it stank of cigarette smoke. Our fire alarm had been covered in foil to stop the detector working. I refused to share a bathroom with anyone that wasn’t from my party and after this we were moved to a different property down the road from the original house and my entire family, which was upsetting . It still stank of smoke, was still in desperate need of an upgrade and cleaning, the shower was dirty, sky box not working, curtains wouldn’t close fully and the other member of my family had issues with the lock on their door. There was not a single staff member at this property and I felt very intimidated and unsafe. There were people shouting outside the property and banging the doors throughout the night. If I could give them no stars I truly would, it ruined an amazing family trip and left us all very upset. Nothing worse than filthy surroundings and rude/unhelpful staff.

Our room was spotlessly clean and looked like it had been recently decorated. It was a lovely room and we couldn't find fault with it. Had a meal and drinks in the pub. It provides typical pub meals. Very friendly staff. Great location being only 5 minutes walk from the centre of town.
