Things to do in Wenchang

Tongguling in Wenchang, known as the highest peak in eastern Hainan, is surrounded by the sea on three sides, making it a must-visit spot for mountain and sea views on Hainan's eastern coastline. The summit offers panoramic views of the entire Moon Bay coastline, with its long sandy beach and gradually changing shades of blue sea creating a breathtaking scene. The iconic Wind-Moving Rock at the summit is a unique feature; the massive rock sways slightly in the wind yet remains standing, adding to the charm. The mountain is covered in lush tropical shrubs, offering cool shade and opportunities for hiking or taking a cable car. It's not overly commercialized, retaining its pristine mountain and sea atmosphere, and offers distant views of a rocket launch site. The only drawback is the strong sun at the summit on sunny days, with limited shade. Overall, the scenery is grand and expansive, and relatively uncrowded, making it a fantastic destination for those who appreciate mountain and sea views.

It was just WOW! 🤩 Once in a lifetime experience which I ll never forget. The earth trembles underfoot so much that the whole body vibrates... the rocket makes sounds similar to a "thermonuclear explosion", a pillar of fire breaks out of the nozzles, and everything around is enveloped with smoke. And here you are standing with your heart stopping and watching something created by man - in fact a small particle of our huge universe - flies beyond this planet somewhere into the space 🚀 And then you realise that you became a part of Chinese Astronautics history and witnessed a historical success!👊🏻💪🏼

It's worth a visit to see the rocket models and experience 3D simulation; it's a great trip and experience. However, when we went in August, the scenic area was under renovation and landscaping was being done, which had a slight impact, but not a major one.

When visiting Wenchang, besides enjoying the sea, a must-do is a visit to the Hainan Commercial Space Launch Site, where you can experience firsthand the collision of cutting-edge technology and cosmic romance! As my country's first commercial space launch site, the awe-inspiring experience here is completely different from ordinary tourist attractions. Standing in the viewing area, the launch tower, dozens of meters high, stands majestically, its silver-white steel frame imposing against the blue sky and sea. Immersive Visit Experience: Close-up Photos: Take a sightseeing bus through the park, where you can see the launch tower, lightning rod, and launch preparation area. Listen to the guide explain the complex process of rocket launches and explore the mysteries of this national strategic asset. Science and Cultural Products: After the visit, you can stroll through the aerospace science museum, where you can not only find a wealth of models but also pick up memorable aerospace-themed souvenirs and mini ice creams.

This is a less-visited spot, just around the corner after visiting Tongguling, but it was a pleasant surprise – incredibly photogenic! I recommend buying a ticket for the sightseeing bus; it's much more comfortable than walking under the blazing sun, and you'll save more energy for taking pictures. The scenery is fantastic, with distant views of the launch site and close-up views of the filming locations for the 1986 TV series "Journey to the West." Enough talk, here are the pictures.

The place isn't big, but it's quite interesting to stroll around (watch out for the steps!). Seeing everyone's prayers for reading can bring a smile to your face. Turn left after exiting, and there's a coconut vendor selling two for 10 yuan—what a bargain!

As a red education base, it's estimated that not many tourists visit on their own. During our visit, a sudden thunderstorm occurred, which happened right when we were visiting the ancestral home. It seems that Mr. Song wanted us to stay a little longer.

Worth a visit! The Spring Light Coconut Kingdom is filled with the charm of coconut palms and the sea. The pure white coconut juice sculptures are refreshing and eye-catching, and the lush coconut groves complement the blue and white buildings beautifully. Inside the transparent workshop, the coconut candy production line operates smoothly, creating a truly soothing atmosphere. The cultural center houses intangible cultural heritage of coconut carving and a thousand-year-old coconut culture, with the aroma of coconut permeating the air. Strolling through the park, tasting the sweet coconut water and savoring the rich coconut flavor, you can learn something new and pick out souvenirs – a pleasant and fulfilling experience.

In short: Wenchang Dongjiao Town boasts China's largest contiguous coastal coconut grove, an original ecological coconut-scented fishing village, free admission, a leisurely stroll, cycling, coconut chicken, and sunset views; not suitable for swimming or water activities. "Hainan's coconuts are half Wenchang, and Dongjiao's coconut groves are the most scenic"—Wenchang Dongjiao Town, just across the Qinglan Bridge; stretching for ten miles along the coast, with hundreds of thousands of native coconut trees, some leaning, some winding, coconut-lined paths combined with fishing villages and harbors, it's not a fancy bathing beach, but the most authentic and original Hainan coconut breeze and seascape, a traditional, slow-paced lifestyle. Highlights: 1. A secluded coconut grove, perfect for cycling and leisurely strolls: Coconut trees provide ample shade, creating dappled sunlight; rent electric scooters/bicycles to wander along coconut grove paths, stopping to take photos at your leisure; aerial photography is incredibly therapeutic; the leaning coconut trees and seaside swings around the Bailaima Resort area are classic photo spots (reminiscent of the filming location for "Youth"). 2. A pristine fishing village and harbor sunset: mudflats, fishing boats, and opportunities to go beachcombing at low tide; excellent for watching the sunset, facing west towards the sea, with stunning silhouettes of coconut trees; the seawater is murky and the waves are large, swimming is not recommended. 3. Authentic coconut cuisine: Freshly opened green coconuts for 8-12 yuan; must-try dishes include coconut milk, coconut chicken, coconut rice, and seafood; the farmhouse atmosphere under the coconut trees is delightful. 4. Quiet and less commercialized: Not a popular, crowded area, allowing you to return to the rustic charm of a fishing village; the No. 1 viewing platform also offers a distant view of the Wenchang Space Launch Center silhouette.

The exhibition hall is full of atmosphere, with highly realistic large-scale models of the curved interactive screen, Tianhe core module, Zhurong Mars rover, and Chang'e lander. There is also a timeline of major events in the development of aerospace breeding to extend the knowledge. It is not just about looking at models, but about understanding the development of the aerospace industry by following the timeline. It is very suitable for bringing children to learn about aerospace.
