The Dwarf Chalet is situated near the New Furano Prince Hotel in Nakagoryo, Furano. The wooden cabins are constructed in the forest and linked by the wooden corridor bridge. There is also a connection of small lights that decorate the cabins. There are a diversity of small crafts in the cabins, which are very delicate. Don't be too explicit when you look inside. Try to see through the corner of your eyes. That big stump is the spot where the legendary second generation of dwarfs lived in. There are passages and wooden bridges of the dwarfs build next to it, and coats of dwarfs were basked, which was very cute.Furano · 41.2km from Sunagawa

Tanukikoji Shopping Street is a historic covered shopping street that spans from 1-chome to 7-chome, with a total length of approx. 900m and approx. 200 shops along the street. The arched roof running through the district makes the street bright and airy, while also providing shelter for shopping and walking. You can also see lily-of-the-valley-shaped streetlights, which continue the traditional character of the shopping street. The shops in each block are diverse, ranging from drugstores, clothing stores, souvenir shops, and handicraft stores to old shops selling antiques and daily necessities. Some areas are clustered with video game arcades and specialty shops, while to the west, there are izakayas, restaurants, and bars, presenting different atmospheres in each block. Tanuki elements are also a major feature here; you can see related decorations along the streets, and some areas even have Tanuki-shaped shrines and stone statues, adding a touch of fun to the shopping street. This place retains traditional shops and local food culture while also incorporating modern shopping and leisure businesses. The district features many restaurants where you can enjoy Hokkaido specialties such as Genghis Khan, as well as a selection of izakayas and cafes. New and old shops are interspersed, showcasing the development and changes of this Sapporo shopping street while preserving the daily scenes of local residents shopping, dining, and relaxing.Sapporo · 66km from Sunagawa

Goryokaku Park is located within Goryokaku. Goryokaku is a star-shaped fortress castle built in the Edo period. It was built in Western architecture. This castle that has witnessed history now only has the outer outline of the city wall, and the interior has been converted into a city park. That is Goryokaku Park. Cherry Blossom Viewing Resort Park is a famous cherry blossom viewing spot in Hokkaido, with cherry trees planted all over it. Every time the cherry blossoms bloom, it looks like a huge five-pointed star-shaped pink flower, which is very beautiful. There is now a Hakodate School in the Hakodate Fusho Park, which collects weapons used in the war, blood-stained samurai uniforms, and restored models of many buildings. Overlooking the Five-pointed Star In addition, there is also a Goryokaku Tower outside the park. Climbing the tower can overlook the whole picture of Goryokaku Park. The shape of the five-pointed star is clearly visible, and the streetscape of Hakodate can be seen from afar. Dream of the Five-Edged Star Every winter, a night-lighting event called "Dream of the Five-Edged Star" is held here. The frozen moat is covered with white snow, and the star-shaped pattern in the park is clearer and more beautiful. The walk is very romantic.Japan · Hakodate

Moerenuma Park is a comprehensive park located in Sapporo, planned and built based on the "Circular Greenbelt Concept," which aims to surround the city of Sapporo with parks and green spaces. Construction began in 1982 (Showa 57), and the park was completed and officially opened in 2005 (Heisei 17). The park's master plan was designed by a world-renowned sculptor, built on the concept of "condensing the entire park into a single sculpture." Across the vast park grounds, hills, fountains, and play facilities featuring numerous geometric elements are arranged in an orderly fashion, presenting visitors with a beautiful landscape where nature and art are cleverly combined. In spring, cherry blossoms bloom. In summer, facilities like the water park and fountains open, adding a vibrant touch to Sapporo's refreshing summer. In the fall, the park is adorned with autumn leaves, and in winter, it becomes a world of ice and snow, where people can enjoy cross-country skiing and sledding. Furthermore, the park was originally built on a waste disposal site. The Glass Pyramid inside utilizes the local natural resource—snow—to provide air conditioning for the interior. Therefore, Moerenuma Park has garnered significant attention for its design philosophy of environmental conservation.Sapporo · 56.5km from Sunagawa

The flowering period of lavender is from July to early August, and the farm will plant other varieties of ornamental plants during the period outside the lavender flowering period. Shirogane Blue Pond (Aoiike)

5.4
4.6/5
152 reviews
Shirogane Blue Pond (Aoiike) is an artificial pond created after the eruption of Mount Tokachi, when a dam was built on the Biei River to prevent volcanic mudflow disasters, resulting in the accidental accumulation of water. The trunks of larch and birch trees, which died from long-term submersion, stand in the pond, and the blue-green water reflects the dead trees and the forest. The blue color here is not artificial. After the aluminum-rich spring water from the upstream Shirogane Onsen flows into the Biei River, it mixes with the river water to form invisible colloidal particles. These particles strongly scatter the blue light from the sun, while the white volcanic soil at the bottom of the pond makes the blue appear even more vivid. The blueness of the pond water changes with the weather, time of day, and season. You can take photos from different angles while walking along the trail by the pond. This pond is also widely known for a photograph: a work by photographer Kent Shiraishi featuring the first snow here won an award in the National Geographic Photo Contest and was subsequently selected by Apple as one of the built-in wallpapers for its computer operating system. Every winter, the pond surface freezes and is covered in snow. After nightfall, lights illuminate the dead trees and the ice, presenting a tranquil scene that is completely different from the daytime.Biei · 57.3km from Sunagawa

Mt. Moiwa is located near downtown Sapporo and surrounded by an old-growth forest. The maple trees' foliage changes color as the seasons change from spring to autumn, and in the winter a white blanket of snow is draped over the mountain. It is a scene of unique beauty that attracts people all year round. Visitors can access the peak of Mt. Moiwa by riding the ropeway and can then take in the full view of Sapporo City from the observatory. The night view is absolutely breathtaking. Besides riding the cable car, visitors can also conquer Mt. Moiwa on foot. Walking is a great way to enjoy the mountain loved by Sapporo locals.Sapporo · 70.5km from Sunagawa

Noboribetsu Jigokudani Valley

Noboribetsu Jigokudani Valley is a volcanic explosion crater formed by volcanic activity and serves as a major source of Noboribetsu Onsen. The valley measures approximately 450 meters in diameter, with exposed gray-white and reddish-brown rocks, numerous hot spring vents, and fumaroles. Hot water continuously rises from the ground, releasing clouds of white steam and filling the air with a distinct sulfurous smell, creating a striking volcanic landscape. The valley produces a large volume of hot spring water daily, supplying nearby hot spring facilities. Walking along the wooden boardwalks offers close views of the rock walls, steam vents, and bubbling hot springs, revealing the geothermal activity beneath the surface. Tessen-ike, located in the valley, is a geyser where the water periodically boils and releases rising steam, highlighting the area's active geothermal features. An observation deck near the entrance provides panoramic views of the valley, where exposed rock formations contrast with drifting steam. In autumn, colorful foliage across the surrounding hills contrasts with the rugged terrain. In winter, snow covers the landscape, while rising steam stands out against the cold air, creating a distinctive seasonal scene.Japan · Noboribetsu

Never thought we would enjoy a chocolate factory so much even though we didn’t try any chocolate during the visit! It was very sighftul and yet full of surprises we walked till they close! Don’t forget to get the parking coupon vouchers from them to get discount off the carpark. We bought our tickets from trip.com and could use them instantly, offsetting coins! Best deal ever! The 6-years old daughter even tried a simple 10mins snack making course for 900yen!

Odori Park, located near Sapporo Station in downtown Sapporo, isn't particularly large, resembling a typical garden or green space in Japan. However, the famous Sapporo TV Tower is right next to the park, attracting numerous tourists from all over the world. The area is packed with people eager to take photos.

To be honest, it's really great. I didn't expect Jigokudani to be so beautiful before I came to Japan. But the sulfur smell in the air is so bad. In terms of duration, for tourists who like photography, this place is very suitable for time-lapse shooting, which will take a little more time, about 1.5-2 hours. For tourists who just want to see the scenery and take some check-in photos, it takes about 1 hour to go back and forth. It's a pity that I can't go up to Oyunuma in winter. I want to try it again when summer comes.
