小宝abbyCoffee enjoyed in a "pigsty" unexpectedly became my top travel recommendation! ☕️
As coffee lovers, we almost missed this amazing place!
Not one of those typical tourist hotspots, but a "pigsty coffee shop" transformed from an old pigsty at the foot of a mountain. Stepping inside was instantly therapeutic ❤️🩹; even the air seemed to slow down.
The coffee counter is made of heavy old wood. Sunlight ☀️ filters through the leaves, casting dappled shadows on the table, making even drinking coffee feel like a ritual.
We ordered two coffees ☕️, and neither was a disappointment!
• Jasmine Orange C Americano ☕️: Absolutely divine! The delicate aroma of jasmine blends perfectly with the sweet and sour taste of fresh orange, and the slight bitterness of the Americano is just right. One sip is like drinking springtime in a Miao village.
• Hot Latte ☕️: The milk foam is so dense it's like a cloud, silky smooth and not greasy at all. Sitting on a bamboo chair basking in the sun 🌞, 😌 it's so comfortable you won't want to leave!
The backyard is the hidden gem!
Following the stone path uphill, there's a secluded viewing platform (pond) where you can take photos of the layered Miao stilted houses. No crowds, and the afternoon sun at 3 or 4 pm casting its glow on the rooftops—every shot looks like a movie scene, even the unedited photos are beautiful!
Don't just squeeze onto the main street when visiting the Miao village! Find a small courtyard like this, order a coffee, relax, and listen to the distant sounds of the lusheng (a traditional Miao reed pipe instrument)—that's the right way to experience the Miao village! Just search "Pigpen Coffee" on your navigation app; it's easy to find within the scenic area, the little wooden sign at the entrance is very eye-catching, just follow it!

I came to Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village for one thing... And that was to check out this incredibly popular Pigpen Coffee!! It was easy to find by following the map. Any photo taken at this coffee shop is a masterpiece, even on cloudy days!! #Miaozhai #PigpenCoffee #XijiangQianhuMiaozhai #MiaozhaiCoffeeShop #MurakamiBookroom
I flew thousands of kilometers just for this! This is where I took the incredible photoshoot. The scenery is absolutely stunning. The weather was perfect, and I had a panoramic view of the Miao village. The climb was a bit tiring, but it was totally worth it.
I came to the Miao village with only two purposes: 1️⃣ To take photos. I'd seen so many beautiful makeup and styling photos and really wanted to experience it myself! 2️⃣ To appreciate the unique architectural style of the Miao village up close and get a glimpse into the local folk culture. Visiting the Miao village during the off-season with these two goals in mind, the experience exceeded my expectations! Firstly, because it was the off-season, there was an oversupply of guesthouses and makeup/styling shops, making accommodation very cheap. We booked a room for 200 RMB per night and even got to enjoy a beautiful night view. The makeup/styling shops didn't require advance reservations or queuing; we just browsed and tried on any outfits we liked. Since there were few other tourists, the makeup, styling, and photography were all done with great care, and the prices were also cheaper than in peak season. P.S. I especially want to recommend my makeup/styling shop and photographer. I had my photos taken at night, and after browsing several shops along the roadside, I chose this one. I was very satisfied! The photographer was incredibly skilled and patiently guided me through the entire process, and I was extremely satisfied with the final result. Here are a few pictures, haha. Feel free to DM me for recommendations if you're interested (no payment received, genuinely recommended). Secondly, the Miao village scenic area is quite large. Besides taking photos, there are many places to explore, and numerous small shops worth discovering. We were short on time during the day, so we only took two routes. 1️⃣: No. 1 Wind and Rain Bridge - Pigpen Cafe - (about a 10-minute walk along the mountain path) - Cowshed Campsite. The online reviews said this route was very tiring, but I personally found it manageable; the views from the top were truly spectacular! (Unfortunately, we forgot to visit the Murakami Bookstore Art Museum 😥) 2️⃣: No. 1 Wind and Rain Bridge - Rice Paddy Cafe, where you can take photos of the rice paddies and blue batik fabric. There's another route, number 3️⃣, which goes to the No. 1 Wind and Rain Bridge, the Lusheng Square, and the Miao Village Museum. You can watch performances, take photos, and appreciate the ethnic culture. We didn't go on this route. In summary, Miao villages are indeed quite commercialized. Shops, cosmetic shops, and restaurants are everywhere, and prices aren't cheap. However, on the other hand, transportation, food, and accommodation are very convenient, and you can enjoy beautiful scenery. For travelers only doing a superficial visit, it's sufficient! If you want a more in-depth experience, you can go to Dong counties like Zhaoxing Dong Village (the largest Dong village). (Attached are the last two pictures from Lonely Planet.)
Hi, I'm a 2006 travel blogger who loves taking photos and traveling, and dreams of seeing the world. Who could resist this atmosphere? My first visit to Qianhu Miao Village on a rainy day completely changed my perception of the village. The rain, like fine silk threads, shrouded the black-tiled roofs and wooden houses in a hazy mist, creating a picturesque scene of ancient Miao charm. 📸Filming location: Pigpen Cafe, requires a 7-10 minute hike (use Gaode Maps; the popular Big Tree Foot Cafe and Cowshed are nearby). 📍The cafe has one room, two bedrooms, and several bayberry trees. 📸Vivo X200Pro live video recording 👉A drink costs approximately 35 RMB per person (you need to make a purchase to take photos/check in). I recommend using a 50-100mm focal length. #QianhuMiaoVillage #GuizhouTravelRecommendationOfficer #AmazingLivePhotos #FindAnAncientTownForSeclusion #QianhuMiaoVillageFilmingLocation #QianhuMiaoVillageCheckIn

P1-3 Pigpen Cafe P4-7 Murakami Bookstore Art Museum P8-9 Random shots of Murakami Village Girl in the terraced fields in front of the flowers P10-12 Cowshed Campsite P13-14 No. 1 Wind and Rain Bridge P15-16 Photos taken by myself in the guesthouse I just randomly found a photo spot by the roadside, and I'm still very satisfied! Since I've already photographed Miao ethnic costumes before, this time I tried Yi ethnic costumes, which are simpler and more suitable for a day trip. The costumes are very slimming!!! All the photos were taken by my BB with a DSLR camera, and they are so much better than the travel photography I found before! They perfectly match my imagination, but most of them require the use of a flash. Girls planning to take photos should prepare a fill light! I recommend shooting in the late afternoon when it's slightly dark but not too dark, with a blue hue. Too late and you'll only see a bunch of lights in a dark scene. Of course, you can also shoot during the day and then adjust the colors yourself.
Who knows! Visiting Qianhu Miao Village during the off-season is absolutely amazing! For just 300+ RMB per person, you can unlock a two-day, one-night paradise. The moment the lights come on at night, you're transported to the fantastical world of *Spirited Away*! ✨ 🚗Transportation Guide: A 3-hour drive from Guiyang. Tickets at the entrance are the same price as online; those with special privileges can get discounts with their ID. Entering the village involves a 10-minute walk along the ancient town street, followed by two free shuttle bus rides to Bridge No. 1. The whole process is very smooth! 🎫Tickets & Transportation Tips: Guesthouses do not include entrance fees! A 110 RMB package includes a 90 RMB entrance fee + a 20 RMB shuttle bus (valid for 24 hours). If you don't plan to stay for 24 hours, the 5 RMB single-ride option is more cost-effective. Buy only what you need to avoid waste. Free shuttle buses operate 24 hours a day within the scenic area, running every 10 minutes, making it super convenient to get up the mountain. If there are many people, you might have to wait for the next bus. 🏡Accommodation Recommendation: Guesthouses during the off-season offer incredible value! Get a clean and comfortable guesthouse halfway up the mountain in the scenic area for under 400 yuan, including breakfast and unlimited freshly ground coffee ☕️. It's a 5-minute walk downhill to the main street, and you can easily catch the free bus uphill. The location is fantastic! 📸Photography & Travel Photography Tips: ▪️Must-Visit Spots: Pigpen Cafe (20-minute hike uphill, panoramic views are amazing!), Murakami Tree Art Museum, Rice Paddy Cafe, Seven Letters. Although it's a bit of a walk, the photos will be incredibly high-quality! ▪️For travel photography, the 199 yuan package is enough! It includes 5 professionally retouched photos + 20 original photos, no hard selling, and the assembly-line makeup won't affect your selfies. There's also a 129 yuan package in the scenic area; compare prices if you're not in a rush! ▪️Free Attractions: The night view from the observation deck is a must! The lights of thousands of homes are breathtaking; the Miao Ethnic Museum is accessible with just your ticket and ID card, offering insights into Miao culture and great photos! 🍜Food & Shopping: Sour Soup Fish is a must-try! For around 70 RMB per person, you can enjoy authentic local flavors. The broth is tangy and appetizing, and it's absolutely delicious with the dipping sauce! You can buy coupons for milk tea to save money. In the evening, stroll through the food street and sample the snacks. While it's quite commercialized, it doesn't detract from the enjoyment! ⚠️Avoidance Tips: Don't buy silver jewelry indiscriminately at the scenic area! It's hard to tell if it's real or fake, and it's expensive. If you want to experience tie-dyeing or silver jewelry, consider group coupons. Wear comfortable shoes, as you'll have to walk quite a bit to find less-visited photo spots. The Thousand Household Miao Village is less crowded and more beautiful during the off-season. During the day, you can see the sea of clouds and terraced fields, and at night, you can admire the thousands of lanterns illuminated. A healing trip for a budget of 300+ RMB is definitely worth it!
