Hotel El-Djazair

The hotel has a long history and is said to be where the previous king lived. It has been renovated, the design and decoration of each floor are very beautiful, the environment is very good, the bed is big and new, and the view from the balcony is very good and stylish. The service attitude is very good, and there is also a meal delivery service. Breakfast is not bad. Although the toilet occasionally smells a bit, after all, it is a hotel with a history, but I still like it here very much. The only thing that is not perfect is the Chinese restaurant on the first floor. The Chinese food is delicious, and the Beijing soup is delicious. However, the steak and pasta we ordered did not have sauce. We asked the waiter to give us some sauce and took two This time it was very thin soup, I don't know what it is made of, anyway, it is completely different from what we ate before. The waiter may be unhappy, and told us to go to the kitchen to make it ourselves if we are not satisfied. This has reduced the restaurant a lot of points.

Positives: well located hotel with magnificent sea view, beach just a stone's throw away, generous and varied breakfast with sweet and savory items, friendly and smiling staff, clean rooms. Negative: the services offered do not amount to a 4-star hotel or the prices displayed; I booked a ”king deluxe” room at 24,000 DA per night for the room with breakfast, there was no bath towel or slippers, no cold drink in the fridge; just 2 small bottles of non-fresh water on the tables, extra spa access at the price of 4000DA for 1 hour only, we had dinner only once it was tasteless, unseasoned salad, bland dishes, tiny portions with an exaggerated price, the second restaurant of the hotel on the corniche oriental specialty ”the master kebab” is dirty with the trash lying around at the entrance, the servers of the latter have a bizarre behavior with their **** friends who occupy for no reason the restaurant tables... Fortunately, right next door there is a good restaurant ”Toutine Star” with excellent value for money.

Most of the time there's no staff in the reception, Buffet breakfast is very modest, there's no Visa account, there's no Master Cart. Most of the services I've been in the hotel description were not available.

We picked this hotel on advice of our local travel agent because it's located nearby a shopping center. We planned to stay there for 2 nights. Check in went smoothly. The front desk ladies were nice. When we entered the room, it's hot. Tried the aircon button, nothing. Called the front desk, they sent a housekeeping lady who explained in somewhat limited English that the hotel aircon is off so we had to open the windows. WHAT??? We talked to the front desk about it and they said, ”If after returning from your tour the room is still hot, we'll change the room”. Off we go on our tour. When we returned, sure enough the room was still hot . They had a new shift at the front desk and they knew the issue, so they helped us find another room. Three rooms later, now they put us in a suite, we thought it was not as hot as the previous 3. All this time, a front desk staff took us around to check all the rooms. Later the Duty Manager called and explained that for the months of March-April-May the hotel's central aircon is switched off. Why? The management's policy. WHAT??? We're tired so we settled but couldn't sleep that night, the room was too warm for us. Opening the windows didn't help a bit. The room was depressingly dark, not enough lighting. The furniture was old and the leather on the sofas is already torn. Reminds me of cheap motel, certainly not a Mercure. Bathroom lacked of good lighting. Entering the bathtub is dangerous due to its weird design and position. throughout of this the hotel staff did their best to make us feel comfortable, they were really understanding and helpful but can't do nothing about the aircon. Their gym, on the other hand, was well-lit, cool enough and had complete equipment. First thing in the morning we spent calling nearby hotels, including the nextdoor Marriott Bab Ezzouar, and asked if their aircon was also switched off. Answer: ”No, ours is on!”. After a sad breakfast with very limited menu, we checked out and moved to next door Marriott where we were given a beautiful and cool room.

Basically every time I come to Albania for business trip, I will live here. The neighborhood is relatively quiet, convenient for parking, and there are supermarkets and fruit shops not far away. The room is clean and tidy, relatively spacious, and the staff is very friendly.

Found the walkway between terminal and hotel fairly easily, go outside and then go up one level and follow signs for parking. Security check twice, once before final part of walkway and second before entering hotel, both staffed by pleasant staff. On entry went to reception who found my reservation easily, explained facilities, breakfast, pool etc and room location. My room was clean, modern and spacious. I felt very safe and welcome as a solo English traveller. I had a great night's sleep in a very comfortable large bed. Breakfast was busy but not overcrowded. Allsorts of food was available, freshly cooked omelettes, meats, salads, pastries, fresh fruit etc, all was delicious and plentiful. Check out was quick and easy. Price was great value for money. I highly recommend this hotel as an excellent place to stay! Thank you to all the staff.
