The grasslands and houses under the white stone cliffs are a very special sight, especially in the early morning when the mountains are shrouded in mist, like a fairyland. Deep in the secret place is an ancient city that is a thousand years old, a mysterious place of Buddhist relics - Bajiao Ancient City, also known as the "Eternal City".

The second largest Tibetan temple complex in China after the Potala Palace. It retains the best Tibetan Buddhist teaching system in the country and is known as the "World Tibetan Academy".
✅ Sangke Grassland
A colorful grassland with both hilly terrain and pastoral scenery, a treasure of Gannan, where you can experience the original pastoral life and customs of Tibetan herdsmen. It is just by the national highway, 0.5 hours drive from Xiahe County, and turns golden in autumn.
✅ Zhagana
A hidden fairyland recommended by National Geographic, a fairy village hidden in the mountains. At first glance, it is a typical mountain valley and peaks in the Tibetan mountain area. Follow the scenic boardwalk up to the One Line Sky, and be amazed by the continuous scenery, Nie Gandawa Glacier Geological Park, Shenwang Temple, Marisongduo, Zhagana Stone Forest...
✅ Rock Road

The Rock Road is worth a visit.
The Rock Road⛰️ is a famous self-driving route in Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Gansu Province, named after the expedition route of American botanist Joseph Rock in the early 20th century. The route is known for its challenging road conditions and stunning natural beauty, and is considered one of the "most beautiful 100 kilometers in China."
About tickets🚪: If you go through Zaga Na, you need a ticket for the Zaga Na Scenic Area. If you go through Hezuo, you don't need a ticket.
The Rock Road starts at Zagulu Town in Zhuoni County and ends at Zaga Na Scenic Area in Diebu County, with a total length of about 110 kilometers. The route can be divided into two sections: Cheba Valley and Guangai Mountain. The Cheba Valley section is about 35 kilometers from Zagulu Town to Jiangche Village, with scenic spots including Zhuoni rapeseed fields, Gongba Temple, and Niba Tibetan Village. The Guangai Mountain section is about 65 kilometers from Jiangche Village to Zaga Na, crossing Guangai Mountain and passing through two passes over 4,000 meters above sea level, which is the essence of the route.
The road conditions of the Rock Road are complex, with unpaved roads, rugged mountain roads, and some sections with dense shallow pits. It is recommended to use a four-wheel drive off-road vehicle or an SUV with a high chassis. Most of the route has no communication signal, so it is necessary to prepare in advance, including spare tires, enough drinking water and food, and make sure the vehicle is full of oil.
The natural scenery along the way is spectacular, from low-altitude dense forests to high-altitude alpine meadows, to wilderness and glaciers, visitors can feel the unique charm of the secret Gannan. In addition, the Rock Road also witnessed the scientific expedition footprints of botanist Joseph Rock, with rich historical and cultural value.
For visitors planning to drive the Rock Road, it is recommended to plan the itinerary in advance and pay attention to safety, especially during the rainy season and winter, as the road conditions may be more complex at these times. Also, since some sections have no cell phone signal, it is recommended to download offline maps and inform friends and family of the itinerary plan to ensure safety.

Gannan Hiking Secret Realm - Nine Heavenly Gates.
Zhuoni Nine Heavenly Gates: After driving to the beautiful Zhuoni County, navigate to "Truck Village". Upon entering Truck Village, there will be a sanitation fee of 10 yuan. Then, you will enter a non-paved road with potholes, with an average car code of no more than 20 km. There is no mobile phone signal or network throughout the journey. You can concentrate on enjoying the scenery. The road will end after about 1.5 hours. Park your car and start hiking. After about 30 minutes of walking and taking photos, you will see the stone gate. The actual visual impact is much stronger than any screen. Two vertical cliffs stand tall, creating a strong sense of oppression! It is worth breaking your shoes to see it! It can also be your spiritual sanctuary! Moreover, the environment here is very primitive and clean, very suitable for travel enthusiasts who pursue primitive secrets.
Clothing: Gannan has a large temperature difference between day and night. You can wear short sleeves at noon, but you still need a down jacket or fleece in the morning and evening. Wear a quick-drying base layer. Some sections of the hiking trail require wading, so waterproof hiking shoes are recommended.
The altitude of the South Sea is high, mostly above 3000 meters. Pay attention to sun protection during high-altitude activities, be careful to layer and avoid sunburn. If you are not prone to altitude sickness, the route is friendly and the scenery is good. It is recommended to understand your own situation before setting off, and do not rush in.

Emerald Waters Hide Emotions, Challenges and Paradise Coexist
Dayu Valley, an AAAA-level tourist attraction located in Muer Township, Gannan, Gansu, is a paradise for nature lovers. The total area of the scenic spot is 105,214.6 hectares, boasting picturesque natural scenery. Especially the water in Ajiu Valley, which is like a piece of pure jade, clear and green, reflecting the surrounding steep mountains and peaks, making people feel relaxed and happy.
The scenic area is divided into two routes. One route is Ajiu Valley, where you can see mountains, water, and canyons, which is the route I took. The other route is Qibu Valley, where you can hike and see snow-capped mountains.
Must-visit attractions:
Ajiu Valley section: The water here is clear, sometimes cascading like a waterfall, sometimes flowing like silk, incredibly beautiful. Especially its pure water quality, like emerald embedded in the valley, is an excellent spot for photography enthusiasts.
Qibu Valley section: A must for hiking enthusiasts! It requires great physical strength
Yixiantian: Starting from Fairy Beach, hike to Fairy Lake, then look far to Yixiantian. Although the hike takes two hours, the scenery along the way is breathtaking and worth a try.
Warm Tips :
Be sure to keep warm and protect yourself from the sun: Dayu Valley has a high altitude and the weather changes greatly, so it is recommended to bring enough warm clothing and sunscreen.
It is very, very cold in the morning, so cold that you shiver, so be sure to wear a jacket.
It is very sunny at noon. I didn't get sunburned, but my friend got dermatitis, so friends with delicate skin must use sunscreen.
Toilet experience: It should be noted that the toilets in the scenic area are very smelly, so smelly that I gagged. Friends who want to use the toilet should do so at the visitor service center before entering the scenic area.
There is a smell of cow dung in some parts of the scenic area, which is due to the local living habits. The smell of cow dung is not too bad and not too disgusting.
The altitude of Dayu Valley is over 4,000 meters. Friends who may experience altitude sickness should be cautious and not travel alone. It is recommended to bring a companion.
Dayu Valley does have some minor flaws, such as the incomplete toilet facilities, but these flaws do not overshadow its beauty. Dayu Valley is still a place worth visiting.

A must-experience in this lifetime! How can you miss the stunning scenery on the Lock Road?
🛤️ Lock Road, also known as 'Jiangdie Highway', is acclaimed as China's most beautiful 100 kilometers. It was once the scientific expedition route of American botanist Mr. Joseph Rock, starting from Zagulu Township in Zhuoni County, Gannan, leading to Diebu.
🌟 Today, it is renowned for its challenging nature and the magnificent scenery along the way, hailed as 'China's Route 66'. The landscapes along the way are dreamlike and fantastical, as if one is in a fairyland.
🚶♂️ From the Zhagana Tourist Center to the viewing platform, one quietly steps onto the Lock Road, a distance of about 5 kilometers.
🏞️ The mountain road winds upwards, with the altitude gradually increasing, clouds swirling around, and the temperature dropping accordingly.
📵 The mobile phone signal weakens to none, but the scenery on both sides becomes increasingly enchanting: steep stone mountains, snow lines and ice waterfalls on the mountain tops, dense coniferous forests and grasslands below, and vast grasslands and meandering rivers at the foot of the mountains, each spot is a breathtaking view.
🌈 I highly recommend that everyone take the opportunity to visit, and it will surely be worth the trip.
🐂 Along the way, we encountered several herdsmen leading their cattle and sheep up the mountain, with the distant huts looking particularly simple, yet revealing a primitive simplicity.
🏞️ As the altitude increases, the scenery outside the car window becomes even more spectacular: the magnificent views of the highland canyon seem to transport us into a game world, making it hard to believe that such beauty actually exists.
🚗 The road meanders along the mountain, with our car moving forward on the S-shaped bends.
🏔️ Reaching the viewing platform at an altitude of 3900 meters, the view in front of us is even more heart-stirring: the deep canyon extends into the distance, sunlight filters through the thick clouds, casting light on the grasslands below, creating a scene with distinct layers due to the changing light.
❄️ Despite the biting cold wind, we couldn't help but stop the car to record this unforgettable moment.
🚗 Route and road conditions:
📍 From Zhagana to Zagulu Town in Zhuoni County, the total distance is 110KM, with an estimated travel time of 5 hours.
🛤️ The first 80 kilometers are mountain roads, with some sections covered in gravel, but the overall road condition is acceptable.
🚧 The second 60 kilometers have poor road conditions, with potholes of various sizes, posing a challenge to driving skills.
🛣️ The third 46 kilometers are newly constructed, offering a more comfortable driving experience.
🏞️ ✔ Scenery:
1.📍 Along the Lock Road, the scenery is enchanting, with grasslands, forests, streams, and mountains intertwining into beautiful paintings.
2.📍 The 0~60 kilometer section has more valleys and villages, with rivers and villages under the mountains, peaceful and serene.
3.📍 The 60~80 kilometer section is a mountain road, with several parking spots set up along the way, offering excellent views, and each turn may bring a surprise.

The Road of Locke, a paradise for self-driving, a must-go!

And the yaks and sheep in the fences
The smoke from the cooking fires winding through the valleys at dusk

Traversing the Loke Road
One person, one car, on June 12th, traversing the Loke Road in reverse! Light rain added a layer of uncertainty, and indeed, I experienced altitude sickness! However, while everyone else was busy taking photos at the various checkpoints, I captured different perspectives along the way! This was a unique experience in my life! The night I arrived at Zhagana, I actually felt relieved. The journey through the Loke Road was meant to temper my expectations for Zhagana, just like the innkeeper said, when you come from the Loke Road, there's nothing much to see in Zhagana anymore! Hahaha!
👉Reverse traversing the Loke Road: This refers to taking the Loke Road from Zagulu to Zhagana, which saves the 80 yuan Zhagana entrance fee. At least it was still possible when I went, and the road was clear!
👉About self-driving: It didn't feel difficult, but there was a stretch of road that was in poor condition, which was uncomfortable to drive on. When the road got worse, I just drove slowly and managed to cope!
👉About altitude sickness: Normally, I shouldn't have suffered from it. It might have been due to excessive physical exertion, and not keeping warm enough and getting caught in the wind. So, when you go, make sure to keep warm. In June, when passing the highest point, it can be close to zero degrees, so be sure to prepare warm clothes!

▪️ Accommodation: Yeliguan Town
The town is very well built, but the promotion has not yet started.
Hotels found on orange, blue, and yellow apps seemed very simple, but in reality, the town offers surprisingly pleasant dining and lodging experiences.
The most expensive Wild Forest Pass Hotel's standard room costs 400 yuan per night, at least a four-star standard in first-tier cities.
Impression Zhuni Culture Hotel
Advantages: The hotel design and hardware are good, the room sanitation quality is also very good, parking is convenient and the parking lot environment is nice. Shortcomings: 1. It is suggested that plastic slippers and floor towels be provided in the rooms for guests to use after showering; 2. When asking the front desk staff about local specialty food nearby, they actually had no idea, which is unbelievable. Therefore, it is recommended that the hotel strengthens training so that every staff member is knowledgeable about local tourism and dining information, to provide timely and thoughtful service to guests; 3. The bedside switches in the rooms are very complicated and somewhat unintelligent, it is suggested that the hotel takes a good look at this, to understand which switch controls which light, and not to make it overly fancy and impractical.

Gannan has a hidden century-old Tibetan village - Niba Village. Here, people live a leisurely day without interruption, and sing the faith into a long poem. Starting from the mountains and living by the water, Niba Village is the kind of paradise written in the book. From afar, the mountains on both sides of the village are dense forests, and large areas of green make people feel comfortable. The Cheba River, which flows slowly, is like a soft ribbon that divides the stockade into two. The most special buildings in the village, the houses in Niba Village are built on the mountain, and the outer walls are mostly yellow. At first glance, they are almost integrated into the environment. Careful to distinguish, the building from low to high, stacked on top of each other, patchwork. Although the architecture here is unique, it is not the old house that attracts me, but the people who are pious. Old people in the village can be seen everywhere, they don't know Chinese, and turning prayers is a very important part of their lives. The curved prayer corridor carries the beliefs of the Tibetans. If you follow them and touch every vicissitudes of the vicissitudes, you can feel the good soul.
"In the spring of 1925, standing on the Sichuan border, I faced two roads: go directly to Qinghai, or transfer to Gannan." The famous American Austrian explorer and anthropologist Joseph Locke described it in his diary, and eventually he The latter was chosen. This choice allowed Locke to discover an Eden park hidden in southern Gansu.
After years of tranquility, Zhuoni became the Shambhala forgotten. When I first heard the name of "Zoni", I mistakenly thought that it was the name of a beautiful Tibetan girl. When I really went through it, I found that the beauty here is more fascinating than the girl. Being drunk is not only me waiting for ordinary people, but also the legend of the industry like Locke.
1924, Locke was entrusted by Harvard University to visit Zhuoni, Gansu. He lived here for more than two years, became a close friend with the local toast, and wrote a 46-page feature for National Geographic magazine based on what he saw and heard. It is the inside of "The Living in the Temple of Zhuoni Lama", which inspired James Hilton from China in the future, and imagined a place called "Shangri-La" in his "Disappearing Horizon".
Niba Village, Niba Township, Zhuoni County is an ancient and peculiar century-old Tibetan village. It is called the first village of Amdo Tibetan Area and Longevity Village. People live for their faith, they have no desire, they live with many centenarians, and the longest life has lived to 114 years old.
Niba Village is facing south and is built on the mountain. It is patchy and has a strong character. The clear Cheba River flows quietly and wears through the village. The flag of the front of the village is fluttering with the wind. The long prayer corridor has become the spiritual sustenance of people. From time to time, some villagers turn their prayers and have words in their mouths. The verses engraved on the skull of the cow add a little more sacredness.
Yuanba Niba Village, the building construction is patchwork, row upon row, antique. From low to high, layers are superimposed, and households are connected to form a rigorous and spectacular defense.
Especially under the blue sky and white clouds, the roof of the house on the roof of the house is like a spider web, which is criss-crossed and criss-crossed, adding a sacred and mysterious color to the cottage.
Stay here for a day, let the restless heart calm down and let the time slow down.
From Gannan Cooperation City to Zhuoni, through the 306 Provincial Highway, there are 100 kilometers away, the rolling green hills on both sides, the magnificent grassland pastures, and from time to time there are sheep and yaks crossing the road, such as the quiet Swiss countryside in the Alps.
This road is called "the most beautiful self-driving road in the world", and I am happy to run back and forth. The scenery is picturesque along the way, and we are running in the painting.
In the 1920s, the American Austrian explorer Joseph Locke went deep into the Gannan Tibetan area and lived in Zhuoni for two years.
In 1928, in the National Geographic magazine of the United States, he used 46 pages and 49 pictures to fully describe the Zenith version of the Buddhist scriptures and the customs of Zhuoni. Nie was famous in the world for a time.
This article inspired Joseph Hilton, who has never been to China, and he created the famous "The Lost Horizon", when all the places are arguing that they are "Shangri-La". The real prototype was forgotten because of the war.
Perhaps it is because of forgetting that she has retained the original beauty.
In this land, you can't see the sights and sounds of domestic tourist attractions, you can quietly blend into the scenery, carefully taste, as if the whole picture is yours.
