Shangjin Ancient Town, also known as Shangjin Ancient City, was built in the fourth year of Chenghua in the Ming Dynasty, also known as Liuzhou City. The existing city was built in the seventh year of Jiaqing in the Qing Dynasty, located on the north side of the ruins of the ancient city of the Ming Dynasty. Shangjin Ancient City is located in the center of the circle formed by Shiyan, Ankang, and Shangluo, and is known as the 'throat of Qin and Chu, the crossing of the emperor'. It is one of the only four county-level ancient cities in the country and the only county-level ancient city in Hubei Province that is well preserved.
