Yongzhou is not a well-known tourist destination. I discovered this hidden gem with its unknown history and beautiful scenery by chance during a two-day stopover on my way to Guilin. Yongzhou is a place where history, culture, and natural landscapes blend together, as depicted in Liu Zongyuan's "Record of the Little Stone Pond." It boasts well-preserved ancient cities and temples, rustic traditional villages, and picturesque karst geological landscapes. In Yongzhou, visit the site of Liu Zongyuan's "Xiaoshitan Ji" Pass by Yuxi, where Liu Zongyuan once passed, and cross the Xiang River, where Xu Xiake once crossed. Who would have thought that ten years would create a literary giant? Who would have thought that someone born at the end of the Yangtze River would come to the banks of the Xiang River? Even the most beautiful rivers, lakes, and seas need stories and words to embellish them.

Thoughts on Yongzhou • Liuzi Temple Yesterday in Yongzhou, I visited the Liuzi Temple and learned more about the life of Liu Zongyuan. Liu Zongyuan was exiled to Yongzhou for ten years, during which time he was unable to realize his political ambitions and was filled with resentment. However, he found solace in nature and wrote a large number of poems and essays. Among them, "River Snow" and "Eight Records of Yongzhou" are the most famous, earning him the title of "the literary crown of the eight great writers." This makes me wonder how people should view and face "failure" and "disappointment." If it were not for these ten years of being underutilized, perhaps Liu Zongyuan would not have left us with so many classic works... Seeing temporary "disappointment" as a different kind of opportunity in life, I think this is a growth mindset, and it is worth experiencing and understanding.

On the banks of the Xianshui River (a tributary of the Xiaoshui River) in the ancient city of Lingling, there is a garden surrounded by green 🌲 trees, lush grass and paths. The color of the lake is light blue, and few people come here, so there is little environmental pollution. Nvrentang is under the jurisdiction of Fuliu Village. 🏝Pingzhou Academy was first built in 1739 by Sui Wenhui and his son, who were from Lingling and the magistrates of Taoyuan County (now Siyang County) in Jiangsu. In 1754, the academy was destroyed by a flood. In 1887, Wang Debang, a general of the Xiang Army, rebuilt the academy. The following year, eight students from the academy passed the imperial examination, and the academy became famous. It is one of the Four Great Academies of Hunan, along with Yuelu Academy, Dongshan Academy, and Shigu Academy. 🏝Pingzhou, also known as Pingdao and Fuzhou, is located 4 km north of Lingling District, where the Xiao River and Xiang River meet. It is surrounded by water on all sides and is a quiet and elegant place. It is about 600 meters in circumference.
