A very Japanese look
The massive pillars of the Kintai-kyo Bridge, one of the symbols of Yamaguchi Prefecture, contrast with the airy elegance of its spans. Together with Iwakuni Castle next door, it demonstrates the achievements of Japanese builders and looks equally charming at any time of the year.
Recommended
Visit Iwakuni Castle, which overlooks the Kintai-ke Bridge
Visit Kikko Park nearby
Admire the bridge from the bank of the Nishiki River
How to get there
From Hiroshima, you can get to JR Iwakuni Station on the Sanyo Main Line, and from Shin-Yamaguchi Station, take the Sanyo Shinkansen Express to Shin-Iwakuni Station. The bridge is between these stations, so you will have to take a taxi or bus to get to it.
Summer illumination
Kintai-ke is especially beautiful in August, when the summer fireworks festival takes place. This is a popular summer tradition — fireworks beautifully illuminate the bridge, creating stunning effects.
Bridges and sakura
Those who visit Yamaguchi Prefecture in early spring should come to the town of Iwakuni in April to admire the sakura growing along the banks of the river. The delicate pink petals against the dark silhouette of the bridge resemble an ancient engraving.

Simplicity and elegance without a single nail
The picturesque Kintai Bridge connects the banks of the Nishiki River in Iwakuni, Yamaguchi Prefecture. The structure of five high arched spans was built without a single nail from Japanese cypress, chestnut and oak. Kintai-ke changes its appearance at different times of the day and year. He is very popular with photographers and artists, including the master of engraving Hokusai.
Kikko Park begins right behind the bridge: there are houses where samurai once lived.

Walk to Iwakuni Castle and Art Museum
How to get
Kintai Bridge is located near JR Iwakuni Station, where trains arrive from JR Hiroshima, Yamaguchi and Fukuoka stations.
JR Iwakuni Station is served by a train from Hiroshima on the Sanyo Main Line. The Sanyo Shinkansen runs to Shin-Iwakuni Station from Hiroshima and Fukuoka, as well as from Shin-Yamaguchi Station. Kintai-kyo is located between JR Iwakuni and Shin-Iwakuni stations, so you need to take a taxi or bus from either of them to it.
The bridge marked in the Michelin guide
Kintai-kyo is marked by several official titles. It is considered one of the three great bridges of Japan, a place of scenic beauty, and in 2013 even received two Michelin stars.
The bridge was originally built in 1673, but was destroyed by a typhoon in 1950. In 1953, the bridge was restored according to the original sketches. In modern construction, nails are used, but they are made of steel, smelted in a Tatar furnace, from which blades were forged in the old days.
We recommend that you definitely visit the bridge when traveling to the city of Iwakuni — it is very convenient to start exploring local attractions from it.
Sakura around Kinunkaku House in Kikko Park
The colors of the year at the bridge and in Kikko Park
Every year in April, 3,000 sakura trees bloom in Kikko Park and near Kintai Bridge. Autumn colors the foliage with bright colors. Kikko Park is one of the most beautiful places in autumn Iwakuni.
Sakura in Kikko Park
There are several 19th-century wooden buildings in the park, including the magnificent Kikko Shrine, Kinunkaku Hall, a wooden warehouse built in 1885, as well as samurai estates.

〜Viewing Kintaikyo Bridge from the riverside〜
Kintaikyo Bridge is said to be about 193 meters in length and about 5 meters in width.
It appears to be constructed using a wooden framework technique with 'makigane' and 'kasugai'.
Please make sure to go down to the riverside and look up at Kintaikyo Bridge from below. The construction is surprisingly intricate.
It is also recommended for the variety of experiences it offers throughout the seasons: cherry blossoms in spring, cormorant fishing and fireworks in the summer nightscape, autumn foliage, and a snowy landscape in winter.

Tangshan Market is located in Shimonoseki, Japan. Shimonoseki is the westernmost city in Honshu, Japan. Although the city is not very famous, it has a very famous food, puffer fish. Because it is close to the Guanmen Strait, the aquatic products here are very rich, especially the puffer fish. When you come to Shimonoseki, you must visit the Tang Dynasty market. It is delicious and delicious. It is not inferior to the Tsukiji in Tokyo and is inexpensive. It is a beautiful thing to watch the lively scene on the first floor while eating on the second floor of the market. First eat a plate of puffer fish sashimi, then come to a large bowl of seafood, and finally don't forget to drink a bowl of steaming puffer fish soup, delicious.
Sophie's Japan Kyushu Travel Tangdo Market
Japan's seafood market, always close to the fishing port, can sell the freshest seafood in the first time, so it is usually open early, rest at noon, can eat inside Tasty seafood sashimi, sushi, skewers, tempura, etc., can also buy fresh fish.
Tangmen Market is a famous seafood market in Kitakyushu. There are many tourists and locals visiting every day. If you are departing from Hakata, you can take more than 1 hour to get to the Port of Moji and then take a 5 minute ferry to Shimonoseki City. Upon arrival, the market is opposite the pier.
The most famous specialty here is chicken fish, also known as puffer fish. It is the kind that if it is not handled well, it will be poisoned when it is eaten, but many stalls are sold here. I believe it is rigorous to the Japanese. Attitude, the person who needs a professional license to deal with puffer fish, can certainly be cleaned up, usually a 1200 yen or so, about 75 yuan a plate of 20 small pieces, cut very thin, fleshy and refreshing teeth, come to try.
There are also various kinds of sushi, which are selected according to your own taste. Most of them are only about 100 yen for about 6 yuan, and the slightly expensive ingredients are 300 to 500 yen. There are a lot of stores. It is good to choose a sushi and then choose sushi.

Hinoyama Park Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Hinoyama Park
#springblossom Blessed with very good weather, the blue sky and Kanmon Strait, tulips, cherry blossoms, it was the best location. There were a lot of people with their dogs 🐕 I was taking pictures. Despite the weekdays, I waited for 30 minutes for many cars to enter the parking lot. But it was worth the wait☺️A nice little park atop Hinoyama. There is a small gift shop, viewing platform and eating area at the top also. There is a cable car line up to the top, but in all my visits I never used it.
The view from the top of the mountain is pretty spectacular. You can take in the whole of the Kanmon strait, looking across to Kyushu. You also get great views towards Shimonoseki city and Korea (though obviously Korea isn't visible).
There is also what I assume to be an old artillery fort with old bunkers and gun emplacements that you can explore. Quite creepy at night.

Motonosumi Inari Shrine Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
The beauty of Yamaguchi prefecture
This shrine that is different from other shrines in terms of no large buildings is located in Yamaguchi. Here it can be seen there is a tunnel with 123 torii gates to the sea of Japan. In the top and bottom, there are big torii gates. It can be seen in the photo . there is a box on the top of the big torii. It is said that if you can get your coin into the box, your wish will come true.
I tried but couldn't do it.
I hope you can do it☺️
Good luck ✨

【A Scenic Spot with a View of Torii Gates and the Sea】Motonosumi Shrine
I went to Motonosumi Shrine by rental car.
The view with many torii gates lined up was truly breathtaking. There are said to be a total of 123 gates.
Further back, the sea stretches out, and the red of the torii gates against the blue of the sea is incredibly beautiful, capturing your gaze.
There is a wide rocky area where you can get close to the sea, so I recommend wearing sneakers.
The shrine's blessings are various, and there is a large torii gate about 6 meters high on the premises with an offertory box at the top. It is said that you can make a wish by throwing money into the box, but it is quite difficult.
You can go around in about an hour, so please stop by when you travel to Yamaguchi.
Feeling Paradise ❤️
