Meeting the First Snow in Minnesota, Written for You, Written for Happiness
⸻
🍂 In just a few weeks in Minnesota, it seems I’ve slowly learned to live gently.
If some places in the world are filled with hustle and bustle,
then Minnesota nourishes the soul with stillness.
There are very few people here,
so few that the wind at the street corner arrives before the pedestrians,
so few that when the sunset shines on the empty road, you suddenly get a feeling like,
“Have I wandered into an indie film?”
But it’s in a place like this
that you’ll meet one stranger after another looking up to say:
“Happy Thanksgiving.”
“Hope you have a beautiful day.”
Their voices are soft, yet they light a lamp in your heart.
⸻
🌬️ Here, people care more about your “today” than your “identity.”
I gradually realized,
especially overseas,
people care about whether you are well,
far more than whether you are “successful.”
No one asks:
“What do you do for work?”
“How much do you earn?”
“When will you get married?”
“Do you have a house?”
They ask:
“How are you today?”
“Have you been sleeping well lately?”
“Have you made time for yourself amid the busyness?”
You should get off work, you should go home early.
Even friends who have settled overseas for many years
never ask me if I’m “doing well.”
They only care:
Have you found your own balance?
⸻
🌙 What Minnesota has taught me is a quiet kind of happiness.
After the pace slows down here,
I start to hear my own voice:
Yes, I get anxious,
and I think about the future,
but I finally understand,
life doesn’t always have to be a race.
Sometimes,
sitting beside a warm cup of coffee,
watching the snow gently fall outside the window,
you realize—
happiness is not an answer, it’s a process;
not a destination, but a moment;
not how others live, but whether you live comfortably.
⸻
🕊️ Written for you, and for myself living abroad.
Life can have no big events,
but it cannot lack small warmth.
It cannot lack a simple
“How are you today?”
Nor can it lack the courage
“To let myself relax a little.”
In this quiet northern state,
I’ve discovered:
life can be treated gently.
And so can I.
