2025 Wadduwa Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in May)

Sri Lanka is located at the southern tip of South Asia, across the sea from India to the north and only a few hundred kilometers from the Maldives. It is an island country in the Indian Ocean, with an area of 66,000 square kilometers and a population of more than 22 million, similar to the population of Chengdu, where I live, and 4.8 times the size of Chengdu. Most of the country is covered by grasslands and forests, and most of the railways and roads are built along the coast, with few highways. Most of the roads are narrow two-lane roads, which maximizes the protection of Sri Lanka's green ecological home. The country's income mainly comes from agriculture, tea, coconut, natural rubber, and tourism. Wage income is generally equivalent to RMB 1,000-1,500, so everyone here is considered a "small rich man." Sri Lanka has a tropical monsoon climate, close to the equator, and is summer all year round, but due to the influence of the Indian Ocean monsoon climate, it is not hot, with an average annual temperature of about 27°C, which is very suitable for Chinese people to vacation in winter. When traveling in Sri Lanka, the hotels are well arranged, and there are rich breakfast and dinner buffets, which can basically achieve freedom of fruit and dessert. Especially in the sea view hotel on the west coast, there are two swimming pools, and the white beach is only a few meters away. The scenery is very beautiful. Most European and American tourists like to enjoy sunbathing on the beach or deck chairs, while the few domestic tourists are fully armed with sunscreen. The hotel environment is very good, with little squirrels jumping up and down between the coconut trees and the lawn; cattle egrets and crows boldly fly to the aisles of the restaurant to clean up the food residue left by tourists after meals; many birds that cannot be named happily chirp and jump between the hotel lawn and mangroves; the sea breeze of the Indian Ocean, accompanied by the blue and clear waves, makes a pleasant sound of waves; the golden sunset in the evening, set off by the slanted coconut trees, presents a beautiful picture. This is really a holiday paradise, and the cost performance is good.

From Chengdu in early winter, after a five-hour flight, we arrived at the green pearl island country on the Indian Ocean - Sri Lanka (Ceylon). After a short six-day trip, we felt the warm climate of the Indian Ocean, the excellent ecological green of Sri Lanka, the standardized tourism environment and good hotel facilities, the unique religious beliefs and the simple and hospitable local people, the wildlife paradise that coexists harmoniously with people, the picturesque virgin forests and beautiful coastal beaches, and the traces and long history of the ancient Ceylon country in the ancient cities and fortresses. This trip: We visited the most down-to-earth Negombo traditional fish market, saw the rough processing and drying process of large and small fish, felt the strong fishy smell of the fresh fish market and processing and drying field, and the flocks of crows and cattle egrets foraging there; we climbed the Sigiriya Rock Dynasty (Lion Rock), overlooking the surrounding virgin forests, grasslands and lakes from the top of the 200-meter-high rock, the momentum is like a rainbow, the shock is impossible to feel without being there, and the Sigiriya maidens in the cliff caves, with their bright colors and vivid shapes, are also a must-see; the 90-square-kilometer "Mijinewa National Park" is full of green grass and lakes and forests, and we took a jeep ride on the muddy trails, chasing wild elephants and watching unpredictable wildlife and birds, thrilling and exciting. We saw fifteen or sixteen elephants and wild animals such as foxes, deer, and peacocks, an experience we had never had in China; in Kandy, the second largest city in Sri Lanka, we visited the beautiful Kandy Lake and worshipped the World Heritage Site of the Temple of the Tooth, where we felt the devout worship of the believers; we visited the ancient city of Galle on the southern coast, where we visited the ancient lighthouse and ancient fortress in the famous Dutch-style castle; we took a boat tour of the mangrove ecological lake at the mouth of the Bentota River, and visited the oldest fishing method in Sri Lanka - stilt fishing; we took the sea train that never closes its doors, and experienced the mood of the little protagonist in the movie "Spirited Away"; we enjoyed two days of pleasant time at the beautiful West Coast resort hotel, with sumptuous buffet breakfasts and dinners, swimming in the pool, wading in the sea, sunset clouds, and coconut trees, which made us linger and have a great experience. The guide was a local friend who could speak Chinese, with enthusiastic service, excellent business and driving skills, and the hotels we stayed in were all good experiences. In short, it was a very satisfying and cost-effective trip. Because, I have the urge to go again...
