Butrint Archaeological Park Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
#tripaway Butrint is strategically located in the eastern part of the Strait of Corfu in the extreme south of the country. It sprawls across a peninsula that is surrounded by Lake Butrint and Vivari Channel. The channel connects the lake to the Ionian Sea through a narrow sandy bar. Located in the direct proximity to the sea, the park experiences mild mediterranean climate. This means that the winters are mild and the summers are hot and dry.
The archaeological heritage of Butrint is one of the most important archaeological sites in the country, containing different artefacts and structures, dating from the Iron Age up to the Middle Ages. Numerous monuments are still extant including the city walls, a late-antique baptistery, a great basilica, Roman theater and two castles. The ancient city is situated within a natural woodland with a complex ecosystems which depends on the nearby lake and channel. Nevertheless, it is this combination of cultural monuments and natural environment which makes Butrint such a unique place.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has listed the park as Category II. In 1992, the archaeological site joined the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. The lagoon has been further recognized as a wetland of international importance by designation under the Ramsar Convention. Nevertheless, Lake Butrint is an Important Bird and Plant Area, because it abundant to significant bird and plant species of international importance.

Exploring History Amidst Nature
#2024wish
Nestled in the picturesque landscapes of the last stretch of Albania, just before the embrace of Greece, lies the enchanting Butrint Archaeological Park. My journey through this historical haven left an indelible mark, combining the beauty of nature with the echoes of centuries past.
As I wandered through the park, I marveled at the harmonious coexistence of historical ruins from various epochs, each telling a unique tale of the ancient civilizations that once thrived here. The setting, surrounded by lush greenery, added a serene backdrop to the remnants of times gone by, creating a magical atmosphere that transported me through the ages.
Some of the ruins were partially veiled by the encroaching foliage, giving the site an air of mystery and adventure. It felt as though I was uncovering hidden treasures as I explored the pathways that led me deeper into the heart of this archaeological gem.
The climax of this historical journey was the Butrint Museum, housed in a small castle that seemed frozen in time. Inside, artifacts and exhibits illuminated the rich history of Butrint, providing a tangible connection to the ancient stories told by the surrounding ruins. The museum served as a fitting conclusion to a day filled with exploration and discovery.
As I reflect on this captivating experience, my mind drifts to future travels. In 2024, my wish is a new adventure – a trip to Phuket.

Albanian riviera - exotic destination
Went to Albania a week ago. From Corfu airport to the port of Corfu, a short travel by taxi.
Fast boat to Albanian riviera (it takes 30 minutes).
After arriving in Saranda, a quick and easy check in, a complementary drink and we are good to go and explore .
Butrint national Park was amazing. The Romans then the Greeks. The lake makes it magic.
The guide is so good, that we did not want to leave.

Sarand is located in the coastal city of southern Albania. It is a typical Mediterranean climate and is the most popular seaside resort in Albania, becoming the honeymoon capital of newcomers. The once-sleeping fishing village has become a prosperous city, with KSamil owning the most beautiful beach in Sarande, and in 2013 it was included in the Guardians 20 cheapest beach resorts. Many Greeks will take a boat ride. Going here for vacation, just because of the high quality and low price.
ksamil is surrounded by mountains, quaint seaside country towns and beautiful beaches, June to September is the best season, the water turns turquoise, the underwater white beaches at a glance Unlimited, you can also play on the nearby islands and enjoy a swim between the island and the island.

🇦🇱Bucketlist Albania:
🏖️ The Albanian Riviera surprised us positively!
The colour of the sea was incredible, the price was excellent (we spent very little). Very welcoming and friendly people (it hurts the heart to see how humble and nice they are). Everything is very well structured: hotels, beach clubs, restaurants, petrol stations with snack bars and good toilets.
👴🏻 Although the older people didn't speak any other language, all the menus had options in English and the waiters knew how to speak it. We had no problem communicating. A funny thing is that on the local radio they seem to speak in Italian and the songs are all Italian, but when you speak Italian to people, nobody understands.🤔😂
💳 The local currency is the "Leek" but we had no problem paying for everything with apple pay or card.
They always try to get you to pay in cash first, but once you've told them you have no other option, they take the little machine out of your pocket. So we didn't have to withdraw any money.
🚗 To get to the region called the Riviera (the region with the beaches, which is in the south of the country) there are two options:
Get off at Tirana (the country's capital), hire a car and drive for 3.5 hours or get off at Corfu - in Greece 🇬🇷 - and take a boat (there are boats all day and they take about half an hour).
We decided to arrive in Tirana. We found the road great, new, well signposted and the scenery beautiful. It was well worth the trip.
👧🏻 We also realised that the trip is good for all ages, there are lots of lively beach clubs for young people, many elderly people on the beach and plenty of options for children. The sea is calm and there are lots of toys for hire on the beaches (I thought this was very different!) Like lots of pedalos, inflatable slides and toys, we saw lots of families there with babies and young children.
🎶 Summary: put Albania on your wish list, because it's so worth it! ✨

Dimond islands
These pristine natural beauty of Albania demonstrates at its finest. There are quite a few islands within vicinity of Ksamil , ones you can kayak to and even one you can walk to. I’d highly recommend this place despite super crowded beaches.

Butrint Ancient Theatre Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
The ancient theatre of Butrint
#hiddengems
The ancient theatre of Butrint, nestled within the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Butrint National Park, is a testament to the grandeur of classical civilization. Dating back to the 4th century BC, this Hellenistic marvel is one of the finest examples of ancient theater architecture in Albania.
Carved into the natural slope of the hillside, the theatre once accommodated up to 1,500 spectators who gathered to witness dramatic performances, musical concerts, and civic events. Its semi-circular design and excellent acoustics ensured that every word spoken on stage resonated throughout the auditorium, captivating audiences with tales of gods, heroes, and everyday life.
Today, visitors can marvel at the well-preserved remains of the theatre, imagining the echoes of applause that once filled its stone walls. Surrounded by lush greenery and overlooking the tranquil waters of the Vivari Channel, the Butrint theatre remains a timeless symbol of artistic expression and cultural heritage.
