Trondheim, Norway's Educational City: The Final Northern Lights

This journey was likely to be the last city developed in Northern Europe. At that time, I didn't want to travel too far, so I decided to try my luck in this city. Trondheim is not a mainstream tourist city, so the pace is very leisurely, perfect for a casual stroll. Afterward, you can return to the hotel to cook a meal or have a cup of coffee. The hotel is located on a hilltop (climbing up was exhausting), but the view is fantastic, and if you're lucky, you might even see the Norwegian Air Force's F35 fighter jets flying by. Trondheim also has some unique architecture, with notable landmarks including the Nidaros Cathedral, the Old Town Bridge, and the Bakklandet Wharf. The Nidaros Cathedral is the largest and most important Gothic cathedral in Northern Europe, while the Old Town Bridge is a popular spot for taking photos. Bakklandet Wharf is known for its old wooden buildings and traditional way of life. I stayed here for four nights, and for three of those nights, I was able to see the Northern Lights. I must say, I was very lucky! However, the Northern Lights were only faint green in the distance for the first two nights, not very intense. On the last day, I received an alert that the Northern Lights would be very strong, so I specifically went to the seaside to watch them (details are in another article).

Winter Wonderland in Trondheim

I recently embarked on a memorable winter adventure to the charming city of Trondheim, Norway, and it was nothing short of enchanting. As I stepped off the plane, a crisp, cold breeze greeted me, and I knew I was in for a unique experience. My journey began in Trondheim's picturesque Old Town, with its cobblestone streets and beautifully preserved wooden houses. The snow-covered rooftops and cozy cafes gave the area a fairytale-like atmosphere. I couldn't resist stopping for a cup of steaming hot chocolate to warm up. The highlight of my trip was undoubtedly the awe-inspiring Nidaros Cathedral. This Gothic masterpiece, covered in a blanket of snow, looked like something out of a storybook. Inside, the intricate stained glass windows and intricate architecture left me in awe. I even had the opportunity to light a candle and reflect in its serene ambiance. Trondheim's culinary scene impressed me beyond words. I dined on traditional Norwegian dishes like Klippfisk (dried and salted cod) and reindeer stew at local restaurants. The warmth of the food was a perfect contrast to the chilly weather outside. For a dose of adventure, I ventured into the surrounding countryside for some winter activities. Dog sledding through snow-covered forests was a dream come true, and the huskies were incredibly friendly. I also tried my hand at cross-country skiing, a favorite pastime for the locals. As my trip came to an end, I couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude for the unforgettable experiences I had in Trondheim. #dreamdestination Trondheim is a city on the Trondheim Fjord, in central Norway. If you love small-town charm with loads of outdoor space, colourful wooden houses, breathtaking natural surroundings, an easy going vibe and lots of history then Trondheim could be well worth visiting for sure. I visited Nidaros Cathedral, Old Town Bridge, Kristiansten Fortress and Egon Restaurant which is up the tower has a fantastic view of the whole of Trondheim and the fjord.

Getting There - Train to Trondheim central then walk about 20-30 minutes to get there. Attractions - Kristiansten Fortress, Festningsparken, Utsiktspunkt Hotels - P-Hotels Brattøra Food & Restaurants - Jacobsen & Svart Coffee Roasters Trondheim is the third biggest city in Norway. Kristiansten Fortress is a popular tourist attraction in Trondheim. Climb up the fortress, you can overlook the city. It was so beautiful! There is a park nearby, so lovely to have a walk there!
