The Benedictine monastery of Saint Nicholas in the city of Trogir in Croatia was founded in 1064 and has from that point onwards been maintained as a monastery for Benedictine nuns, almost one thousand years of history, There is a beautiful courtyard and small museum on site also a small shop. Trogir Cathedral or the Cathedral of Saint Lawrence is a beautiful church. The exterior of the church demonstrates a Romanesque style of architecture, whereas the interior of the church is in a more Gothic style, making this church very interesting architecturally. Work on the cathedral began in 1213 and it was completed 400 years later. Day 14 of road trip. I am glad I pushed on our journey to Croatia as I initially hesitated to drive here due to the long distance. We arrived at Trogir after a 3 hour drive from Plitvice Lake. Its not a very popular tourist destination but I really love the vibes upon arrival. It’s very clean, less crowded, it has a very chill old town square with shops and cafe to just relax and enjoy the atmosphere. Feels very safe with many local kids running around playing.

Trogir is a small town near Split that is unexpectedly beautiful. It’s old town is a UNESCO protected heritage site and the town was used as a filming location for celebrated TV series Game of Thrones. The town has a certain charm and feels much less touristy than Split, and makes for a good day trip if you are interested in architecture and landscapes. Would highly recommend!
