Tozeur Tozeur (Latin: Thusuros, also known as Jarid). Oasis in central-western Tunisia. Located south of the Tunisian prairie region, it boasts beautiful scenery with many salt flats and palm groves. Two high-quality varieties of dates produced in the region have been major export commodities since the 11th century. It also produces hand-woven carpets and silver jewelry. An international airport provides convenience for tourists. Locals consider the nearby Naftah to be a sacred oasis. A visit to Tozeur must include a look at the Star Wars filming location. It is one of the places that most resembles an alien planet. Luke Skywalker's home is still preserved in Tozeur, serving as the set for Mos Espa, and the scene has been largely kept intact. Tataouine Tataouine Province, Tunisia is a town in Tunisia that inspired George Lucas to name his fictional desert planet Tatooine. 🔛 Continuing the Tunisia trip Citywalk The Town of Dates - Tozeur, is the largest oasis city on the edge of the Sahara Desert, I've been to three oases before, and they were all very beautiful. The ancient city's buildings are made of beige bricks, which are made by burning date palm branches into ash, adding it to clay, and firing it again. The ancient city in the streets has a sense of time travel, and in some ways, it's quite similar to the ancient city of Kashgar in Xinjiang. - The ancient city's market atmosphere is not overly commercial, there are just some local, everyday life scenes. Walking through the narrow, sun-drenched alleys to the ancient city, looking up, the trees that looked like coconut trees are actually date palms. Young teenagers wearing slippers riding motorcycles, pass by us, with curiosity in their eyes; I don't know where a group of local children came from, laughing and surrounding me, I quickly called my friends to help me take a photo, the strange Chinese face is also a curiosity to them, but they are not afraid, they chatted with us in English for a few sentences, and even tried to invite the boys among us to play football, laughing so happily. - 🕌 The ancient city is not particularly large, there's no special strategy, we passed by the mosque, visited the local craft market, bought some characteristic bags and fridge magnets, as well as dates all of which you can haggle over the price a bit, the artworks hanging in the alleyways, with a touch of local artistic flavor, I really like this small city, slow and gentle.

🚗Continue self-driving from Kairouan, next stop: Sahara Desert. As the city of rest before we enter the hinterland of the desert, Tozeur has the title of "Desert Gateway" and is also the oasis city of Tunisia. In the vast desert of yellow sand, the fertile soil is so abundant with water and grass, it's really rare. 🌴Here you can not only feel the roughness and desolation of the desert, but also the spectacular scenery of the oasis. This is the location of the "Star Wars" shooting, and also the best place for sweet dates. The small city is covered with a date palm forest of 1,000 hectares. For many years, people have been irrigating this land with underground spring water, maintaining the fragile ecological balance of this oasis. 🏔️On the mountains in the desert around the city of Tozeur, there are also several scenic spots with unique "mountaintop oases", with Chebika, Tamerza, and Mides oases being the most famous, and we went to two of them. 1️⃣Chebika is the first mountaintop oasis to arrive. Climbing to the top of the mountain along the trail behind the mountain, you can overlook the source of the entire oasis, and you can also overlook the entire cityscape of Tozeur. Following the downhill trail, listening to the gurgling spring water surging in the depths of the valley, watching the small waterfall formed between the cliffs, nourishing this land, it is a paradise in the yellow earth. 2️⃣Tamerza Oasis, not far from Chebika, inside is the Mides Gorge, which is only one kilometer from the Algerian border. The natural combination of high mountain desert and oasis is spectacular and gorgeous. This was the location for the shooting of the film "The English Patient", which won nine awards at the 69th Oscars. This film, constructed by desert, airplane, map, war, mural and Hungarian ballad, is known as "soft as oil painting". There are stalls selling souvenirs and food in the scenic area. For the first time, I saw desert roses and amethyst raw stones, and for the first time I drank fresh juice squeezed from authentic Tunisian soft-seeded pomegranates. Sitting in the sun outdoors in front of low stone walls and rough houses, chatting with friends and newly met locals, is our way of communicating with the world, and it's an afternoon worth freezing in time.
