A rare and spectacular sight in Japan! On one side is the ocean, on the other, a desert!
Most of Japan's attractions are small and exquisite, and it's rare to find scenery that feels grand.
But the Tottori Sand Dunes are an exception. They are the largest coastal dunes in Japan, and just climbing up and down left me
breathless. Standing on the ridge of the dunes, on one side is the endless Sea of Japan, on the other is the vast dunes, the stunning scenery is a testament to the wonders of nature! Walking on the fine, soft sand, admiring the 'wind ripples' left by the sea breeze on the sand, I truly felt the charm of the dunes. The combination of yellow and blue, the colors are clean and clear.
Besides playing in the sand and watching the sea, you can also visit the 'Tottori Sand Dunes The Sand Museum', which is the only museum in the world dedicated to displaying exquisite sand sculpture artworks. The museum changes its theme annually, and here you can admire beautiful landscapes from around the world created with sand.
There are also attractions like Conan Town, the White Rabbit Shrine, and the Uradome Coast nearby... If time permits, you can also visit these spots and fully experience the Sea of Japan. Experience Tottori.
Both adults and children can have a happy and unforgettable time at the Tottori Sand Dunes.
Address: 2164-661 Yuyama, Fukube-cho, Tottori City, Tottori Prefecture
【Tottori, Japan】The Tottori Sand Dunes and The Sand Museum: A Marvel of Nature and Sculpture.
When mentioning Tottori, Japan🇯🇵, many people think of the Tottori Sand Dunes, whose appearance changes dramatically with the light and wind🌅. Besides the dunes themselves, the nearby Sand Museum is not to be missed.
The Sand Museum presents sculptures made of sand and has 'World Travel'✈️ as its theme, regularly producing exhibitions on different themes. When I visited, there happened to be an exhibition themed on Egypt🇪🇬, and what better way to showcase Egyptian culture than with sand sculptures? As soon as I entered the main exhibition space, I felt as if I was in the mysterious world of Egypt. The sculptures, carved with incredible skill, vividly displayed the splendor of ancient Egyptian civilization, with pyramids, pharaohs, and statues of Egyptian artifacts so lifelike they almost seemed real, leaving me in awe.
After leaving the museum, I headed to the nearby Tottori Sand Dunes, the largest dune formation in Japan🌵. Standing on the dunes, I was overwhelmed by the boundless desert landscape. The shape and texture of the dunes changed colors with the sunlight. Climbing up to the 'Horseback' dunes🏜️, I could overlook the surrounding beauty, with the endless Sea of Japan stretching out before me, a truly magnificent sight.
Of course, when in Tottori, one must not miss the famous seafood🐟🦐🐙🦑. There are also several Japanese restaurants near the Tottori Sand Dunes that specialize in seafood, perfect for exploring after climbing the dunes.

여긴 요괴의 도시였어。
Traveling to Japan allowed me to discover the unique city of Tottori Prefecture, Sakaiminato, also known as 'the city of yokai'. Located in the San'in region, this small town is filled with a mysterious yokai atmosphere, emanating strange sights everywhere from the train station to sculptures, lighting decorations, and even candies. All of these are derived from the famous manga artist Shigeru Mizuki and his work 'GeGeGe no Kitaro'.

Uradome Coast Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
highly recommend stunningly beautiful
Really quiet and beautiful place. Great for a morning stroll at the beach or run. The water is a bit cold in March, but you can walk or swim the the shrine and explore the small rock paths around the beach. Very worth it for a relaxing time away from the crowds.
Pufu Coast, the first stop of the Tottori Tour. Take a boat trip and follow the seagulls along the way to the depths of the sea. The sound of the motor is bursting, the waves are tumbling, and the blue of the sea is becoming more and more charming.
There are 166 large and small islands scattered on the sea. The cliffs, strange rocks and caves are changing. This is a masterpiece of sea water and wind erosion, and a gift from nature. It is highly recommended to buy the cuttlefish ice cream at the boarding station. In this place, eat a bit of dark sweetness.
