You can take a ferry to access to this one of the most beautiful islands around Kagawa. It is pretty small to explore but feels so good for just relaxing and spending time with great nature. About transportation, unfortunately there are not so many buses however, you can rent a car or even bikes that is enough for exploring all around the island.

Not only can you observe the warm and charming monkeys in Shodoshima, but you can also experience direct feeding. In spring, cute baby monkeys are born, and in winter, you can see monkeys close to each other and warm up. In order to enjoy it safely, follow the instructions and precautions of the breeder. In addition, the superb view from the Senta Peak Observatory in the park is one of the reasons for its popularity. There is no doubt that you will be overwhelmed by the magnificent scenery of the Great Valley. I just bought early bird tickets for 2025 and reminisced about 2019, the last trip before the pandemic. In November, there weren't many tourists, but I met a group of charming architects from Shanghai while island hopping. We explored several spots together. My friends and I leisurely strolled between islands, enjoying the seaside without rushing or obsessing over check-ins, fully immersing ourselves in the fusion of art and nature. The much-anticipated Setouchi Triennale is back for its sixth edition, celebrating the unique charm of the Seto Inland Sea islands. This festival aims to bring joy to visitors and restore the ocean's natural beauty. A total of 638 artists and 725 artworks have been submitted, with confirmed exhibits from renowned figures like architect Tadao Ando, Sou Fujimoto, and artist Yayoi Kusama, among 13 artists/groups. The festival is divided into three seasonal sessions: Spring (April 18-May 25), Summer (August 1-31), and Autumn (October 3-November 9), totaling 107 days. The venues include Naoshima, Teshima, Megijima, Ogijima, Shodoshima, Oshima, Inujima, and the Takamatsu and Uno Port areas. Spring features the Seto Ohashi area, Summer includes Shido-Tsuda and Hiketa areas, and Autumn highlights Honjima, Takamijima, Awashima, Ibukijima, and Utazu areas. Located on a small hill in Karato, Teshima, overlooking the Seto Inland Sea, the Teshima Art Museum is a collaboration between artist Rei Naito and architect Ryue Nishizawa. The museum was built on a former terraced rice field that was revitalized with the help of local residents. In one corner of this vast site, a building shaped like a water droplet was erected. This concrete shell structure, measuring 40 by 60 meters with a maximum height of 4.5 meters, has no pillars. Two openings in the ceiling allow the surrounding wind, sound, and light to enter directly, creating an organic space where nature and the building interact. Inside, a 'spring' emerges throughout the day, reflecting the infinite expressions of changing seasons and the passage of time.
