Ancient Splendor in Luxor
Luxor, nestled on the east bank of the Nile in southern Egypt, is often referred to as the "world's greatest open-air museum." Once the ancient city of Thebes, Luxor is brimming with archaeological wonders that reveal the splendor of Egypt's New Kingdom era.
What to Expect
The city's primary attractions are the sprawling Karnak Temple complex and the Luxor Temple, where massive stone columns and towering obelisks speak of the city's former glory. Across the river, on the West Bank, you'll find the famed Valley of the Kings, home to more than 60 royal tombs, including that of Tutankhamun. The nearby Valley of the Queens, the Colossi of Memnon, and the Temple of Hatshepsut are equally fascinating sites, each offering unique insights into the lives and beliefs of ancient Egyptians.
Experiences and Recommendations
A guided tour of the Valley of the Kings is a must, where knowledgeable guides can provide historical context for the intricately decorated tombs. Don't miss the mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut, an architectural marvel set against a dramatic cliff backdrop. In the evening, a sound and light show at Karnak Temple brings the ruins to life, narrating the stories of ancient rulers. For a unique perspective, consider a hot air balloon ride over the Nile, which offers an unforgettable view of Luxor’s temples and the desert landscape.
Tips and Tricks
The best time to visit Luxor is in the cooler months from November to February. Early morning or late afternoon visits are ideal for avoiding both the midday heat and the crowds. Carry water, sunscreen, and a hat to stay hydrated and protected. Hiring a local guide ensures you won't miss important historical details, and purchasing a Luxor Pass grants access to most archaeological sites.
Personal Reflections
Exploring the intricate carvings inside the tombs of the Valley of the Kings left me awestruck, particularly the vivid colors that have been preserved for thousands of years. The scale and beauty of these sites give you a glimpse into the grandeur and spirituality of ancient Egyptian civilization.
For history enthusiasts, culture seekers, and adventurous travelers, Luxor provides a journey into the very heart of ancient Egypt. Its temples, tombs, and timeless beauty tell stories of pharaohs and gods, making it an unrivaled experience.

Luxor - the Gods and Temples of Egypt
We arrived in Luxor after a few days of excursions on the historical sites in Egypt already, but we’re still amazed by the magnificent temples and spectacular valleys, and of course the profound history of the city that dates back to thousands of years ago.
We stayed at the Steigenberger Nile Palace during our stay, and were told it was one of the two best hotels in Luxor (the other being Sofitel winter palace), and the staff, the amenities and the view have made our stay even better than it already is, and I’d highly recommend this hotel for its price and it’s service to anyone who’s coming to this majestic city.
The highlights on my trip are definitely the hot air balloon, which we went with Sinbad tours (the best in town) and valley of the kings for its out of this world landscape; this visit is once in a lifetime and absolutely unforgettable. #luxor #Steigenberger #valleyofthekings #Karnak #bluesky
Valley of the Kings and Temple of Queen Hatsheput
We started a packed tour in Luxor with our first stop at Valley of the Kings, The Mortuary Temple of Queen Hatshepsut. Amazing to see the detail of the drawings on the walls, it looks a couple of years old, amazing that they've preserved it so well over the years. Tour guides tell the story beforehand because they are not to talk and explain inside the temples, it helps that you know the story when you go in and see the story on the wall. Hasteput was scorching hot we were in and out under 30 minutes. I would say this was least impressive of all the temples we've seen in Luxor.

we stayed on the West Bank of the Nile for 3 nights ( I wished we stayed longer) we saw some beautiful things and even saw a common kingfisher catching his breakfast ☺️, the West Bank is lovely and rural, if you stay here it is easy to access all of the beautiful temples #valleyofthekings #colossi of memnon #valleyofthequeens and lots more, we even took a balloon ride at sunrise

Stunning view on Sunset over Luxor city, Egypt.
Nile river, Hatshepsut temple and valleys of the Kings.
Amazing experience!! Worth it to wake up 4am ❤️🖤
Valley of the Kings
One of the biggest and best attractions is visiting the valley of kings in Egypt. It’s about an hours drive to the site from Luxor and worth every penny. Just a heads up for anyone that will be enjoying this excursion, the ticket is valid for 3 tombs only, so choose the king that you would absolutely love to witness. We ended up purchasing another ticket at the ticket counter, to see 3 additional tombs and it was worth it. However, it is a long walk and golf cart ride back to the entry gate to purchase the additional tickets. So if you do plan to see more than 3 tombs try to purchase them prior with the excursion company. #valleyofthekings
Amazing Luxor Temples and Tombs
#wecreate #luxormuseum #egypt #temple #valleyofthekings Truly amazing place, I highly recommend taking a tour guide as just looking at the ancient Tombs will not give you a full taste of the place. A must is also to take a boat trip at river Nile preferably at sunset as the views are truly amazing and you will not spend a fortune to do so. Stainberger hotel offers fantastic deals with free room upgrades and you will find your piece of mind there with a decent selection of restaurants offering a variety of tasty food.
