Amazing Dali
Dali is a perfect destination for summer.
The weather is so perfect but still, put on your sunblock for skin protection. You have lots to see in this place. They have the famous Erhai lake which is one of ghe seven biggest fresh water lakes in China. We also visited the 3 pagodas. We also went to Xizhou, and joined the Three-course Tea Ceremony, it is most popular among Bai people which is served for distinguished guests. They even invited the guests to dance with them. We had a local Tie Dye Workshop in Zhoucheng. We learned and made one by ourselves using natural dying solution (indigo leaves, flowers, tree barks).
Our hotel was located in the old town. Cars are not allowed to enter the area so we called the hotel to pick up our luggages using toktok vehicle.
At night, you can walk around the old town and try different food. Also, don’t miss to try Pu’er tea. It’s one of the best teas in China.

Yunnan food addiction 🤤
I love Yunnan cuisine! There are so many varieties, from fresh vegetables, to cold noodles, to ham, mushrooms… so many delicious dishes that bring to the table the Bai minority’s cuisine culture.
I tried before a lot of Yunnan restaurants in other provinces in China but eating here the authentic one is totally another thing! It’s amazing!
In these pictures there are few dishes that we tried in different restaurants in Dali.
If you want to try that huge plate full of delicious things just go to 顾氏烩私房菜, this portion is huge, will be ok for 2-3 people and that’s the small one (cost 118rmb).
The other pictures belong to 大理段公子, I particularly recommend the wild mushrooms in the banana leaf, they were fantastic.
Both restaurants are in 大理古城 (Old town).

Jade Dragon summit: Glacier Park
This scenic spot requires your full strength. Snow amount varies depending from season, however the scenery from the summit, and be able to prove yourself you did it, is amazing. Great places for pictures (enjoy the coolest alpaca ever).
You need to take a cable car to summit. Stairs from there are your best friend and worst enemy. You can find food shops along the way, too keep energy and warmth.
💲Inside the park are many restaurants and shops. You can rent a waterproof warm coat if required. If you need oxygen before the cable car, buy more. To avoid complications and additional charges, visit the park with a group tour.
🏔 You go over 2,500m in few hours. Don’t risk your body, listen to your heart beat. Take your time climbing, wait for few minutes until your body acclimate.
⚠️ Keep your passport at hand

Glacial ponds of the Blue Moon Valley
If you want to visit a majestic valley with clear waters that come from a sacred glacial, the Blue Moon Valley in Yulong National Park is a must visit. Altitude for BMV is 3,600m. You can take local bus, distance to the park is 13 km and costs only 20 RMB (leaves from Lijiang Old Town North Gate).
This freezing blueish water transforms in white during rainy season. Located in the Jade Dragon 🐉 Snow Mountain park, this scenic spot will stay in your mind forever. I suggest you to visit as early as possible, to avoid crowd spaces. This park in general is huge, and every spot can be incredibly iconic.
Inside the park are many restaurants and shops, some are quite expensive. You can bring your own food. Also, you can rent a waterproof warm coat if temperature is too low, or buy additional oxygen if you need it. Although, it’s better to buy your own in Lijiang town (inside the park costs are 2-3 times more).
🔅 Only Chinese can pre-book tickets online. To avoid complications and additional charges, I’ll advice you to go to the park with a local group tour.
⚠️ You need to keep your passport with you at all times, pay many different tickets and show different health codes. Just keep in mind these hectic steps are the only thing separating you from one of a lifetime experience.

Yuxue Qingcheng Snow Inn in Lijiang
Like the pictures show, this Inn has an antique ambience, cares a lot about each guest and has an amazing view of new city of Lijiang. Even the full view of Yulong mountain! Breakfast is included, rooms are big, shared areas are great. You don’t get much internet in the first floor but each room comes with its own WiFi. Also, almost every room varies, even if you book for same type of room.
Most hotels/inns inside Lijiang Old Town, you need to carry your luggage on your shoulders for a few meters uphill to reach your accommodation. You can also call them and they will carry your bags for you.
Manager doesn’t speak any English, yet she will invite you to share a tea (as good host she is), and will try to give you advices about your trip depending on your plans or the season. If you speak a little of Chinese, she will also give you cultural background about Lijiang and Yunnan over few cups of tea.
There are few restaurants around this inn, normally the cheap ones are those outside the old town. Few convenience stores are few steps away, and you can get food delivered directly to the inn.
Please, keep in mind many inns/hotels in the area don’t receive foreigners. You need to keep your passport with you at all times.

World Heritage ancient town of Lijiang
One of the most popular places in Yunnan is the Lijiang Old Town. This town is immense, surrounded by mountains, clustered by ethnic shops, music exhibitions, ancient art, temples, discotheques, and almost anything you can imagine. Every shop and landmark is special in its own way, so different from the next one. This town is chaotically beautiful.
If you are going to visit, be sure you have enough charge in your phone, your bags are not so heavy and you have good hiking shoes. For once, unless you are a local, this tiny streets and similar architecture of shops and roads will get you lost. Not joking, this town is a nice labyrinth to get lost, as you have so much to enjoy here. This includes many musical or dance performances out of nowhere you can find in any corner.
Keep in mind there are no bikes, cars or bicycles allowed inside. Also, Lijiang is famous for its silver and different minorities ethnic fabric you will find in shops. There are few temples and scenic spots that will take your breath away. Pun intended. Be aware you will indeed lose your breath going up and down, and altitude can make some people sick, yet you can find many stores selling oxygen.

A glimpse to an ancient salt town
There are three ancient salt towns in Yunnan. If you want to visit them, prepare for an odd experience to ancient China. Nuodeng, in Yunlong county, is a hidden gem for salt and tea. If you chose to visit, prepare for an out of ordinary walk (hike) within the Bai minority’s most important cultural and architectural heritage of Ming and Qing dynasties.
Nuodeng is over 2,000 years old, and was one of the richest salt town in ancient China as belong to the Tea Horse Road. Nuodeng was also center of old Salt/Tea road connecting Dali (160km east), Baoshan, Tengchong-Birman, and Lijiang-Tibet in the north.
Most of the structures are made from mud, while part of the town looks a bit ‘modern’, most houses are quite old. Roads are mainly dirt, with a few stone or pavement ones, so wear the right shoes to enjoy the architecture that has endured for centuries.
This town very traditional, inhabitants mostly speak local language, therefore basic Mandarin should be important to manage. Also, you get to see salt wells and meat drying like old times. This village might feel like a labyrinth, but you can enjoy your time and shopping to invest in local economy (very cheap).

Yunnan Ethnic Village provided a mixed range of emotions. The people were really nice and getting there was really convenient with a phone but it’s just a replica or like a re-enactment of different ethnicities throughout all of China. I thought it was an older abandoned town where ethnic minorities use to live LOL. It’s just a replica. The natural sites were really pretty which made it worth it. You can see Xishuan Mountain in the background which was really cool. I didn’t go to the performances in the theater because they were too expensive (150-170RMB) 🤧 #yunnantravel #yunnan #kunmingtravel #kunming #ballinonabudget #naturalwonders #yunnanethnicvilliage
