Get out into nature
As I write this Autumn is fast approaching, so why not get out your walking boots and smell the fresh air!
Kinver Edge Forest is a ridge and hill fort overlooking red sandstone rock houses. Within Kinver Edge there is a pocket of wilderness that buzzes with life. From the sound of the trees whistling in the wind, to the bats flying about at night - it all comes alive!
What’s more, there is ample green space and benches to sit around and soak up this natural wonder. Many people like to bring a picnic, walk their dog and generally walk the different trails of Kinver Edge.
If you get chance, check out the Holy Austin Rock Houses whilst you’re there!
📍Kinver Edge, West Midlands
💰It’s free! Just get yourself there - note there is no public transport to this.
🍔 There is a small cafe onsite located at the south of the forest park as well as other local eateries and pubs nearby.

Most magical island resort in Kota Kinabala
🤩With views stretching across the South China Sea, and where the silhouette of Mount Kinabalu can be seen on a clear day, this place was just awesome and far exceeded my expectations!
It was quiet, secluded and felt like paradise - oh take me back!
⛵️The resort has it’s own jetty providing the speed boat transfer from the main island to Gaya island. And if the weather is good, you will have a wonderful 10 minute ride across the sea.
The water is fresh, clean and so clear you can really see the local fish swimming free - so it’s great for snorkelling off the beach!
📍Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia
💰It’s a little pricey per night but so worth it
🍔 There is ample food and restaurants from the hotel, you can also go back to the mainland if you wish!
😂 Tips: Check your room and view, you won’t be disappointed with the calm tranquility of the sea and sunset

Well, the pictures do not do this place justice! I was nervous to go there at first given some of the reviews I saw online with people commenting on disappointing food and service. BUT, for my visit everything was great - service was good and attentive and food was delicious!

🏖Beach in Guangdong
More famous for flying kites you may of heard of Yangjiang, take a bus for 40minutes from Yangjiang City to Hailing Island and you can enjoy the sweet sea air in Guangdong.
🌊Going to the beach is great for ones health and mind - it has so many benefits for us, just listening to the sea you can feel a lot of peace.
☀️Of course a lot depends on the weather and although the weather wasn’t sunny in April, it was still great to be out enjoy the beach!
🧐The beach was somewhat littered with dead jelly fish when I visited unfortunately but I don’t imagine that is always the case!
🏊♀️Swimming in the sea is permitted in special areas
You will find many boardwalks around the coastal areas to wonder along. You’ll even find tandem hello bikes to rent at the roadside - but don’t bet on them being in working order 😂
Tips
If out walking along the coast, just be aware some public toilets were closed down!
📍Ten Miles, Silver Beach Hailing Island, Yangjiang
🚎How to get there? We took a bus direct from Guangzhou > Hailing Island (It stops for about 20 minutes in Yangjiang where you transfer to a 6 seater car!)
💰Beach is free, the bus cost around 120rmb/person

Staycation in Foshan Nanhai
Looking for somewhere to get away from the city? Foshan Nanhai may just be the place for you and there you can find many parks and places to relax.
Check out Crowne Plaza Foshan Nanhai
Not only is it positioned in a quiet area with relaxing lake views, this hotel has been open for only a few years and is fairly new!
Compared to other Crowne Plazas I’ve stayed at, this one goes above and beyond to make your stay relaxing! Breakfast is delicious and if you’re an IHG member you may even get some extra benefits
But moreover is the breathtaking views, sunrise and place to relax and rejuvenate away from the city!
The hotel has everything you need including:
- Swimming Pool
- Gym
- Restaurants
Tips:
Ask for a high floor room away from the elevator, you will have a very peaceful sleep!
📍Crowne Plaza Foshan Nanhai. Take a taxi from Guangzhou South Railway
💪Pool, fitness centre and situated at the edge of a lake - which is great for jogging!
🍔The breakfast buffet was great and part of the room rate when I visited. There are some small restaurants nearby, but not many

Foshan Wenhanhu Lake Park
Wenhanhu Lake Park is a great place to base yourself as it’s a fairly quiet area with lots of grassy areas, a lake, a sand pit all which are spectacular day and night.
At night, I like to jog round the park - the air is cooler and the lake is lit up. You will find people like to come here to play and night time is certainly best to relax and exercise!
Tips:
- Looking for public toilets? You will find these at the far end of the park (opposite Crowne Plaza Hotel)
- You can stay at Crowne Plaza to and make it a staycation - the hotel is new and fairly cheap for the quality!
📍You can get to the lake park by taking a taxi or Didi from Guangzhou South Station, a Didi cost 18rmb at time of writing and was about 15mins drive.

Take a ferry to Changzhou Island, Guangzhou
Changzhou Island, Huangpu
Once formerly known as Dane’s Island in English, it offers a wonderful place to unwind and relax whilst exploring some rich history of China. It’s famous for it’s Military Academy and old village.
🌴It’s easy to wonder around this place by foot, or by bike and has many places to take a visit.
⛴To get there from the CBD, it’s a short 10 minute ferry ride. (If you really, want you can take your car on the car ferry across the river). Look for the yellow duck when you’re arriving
The key attractions of Changzhou Island is the Military Academy - this is open to the public during open hours will small entrance fee. Unfortunately, I arrived too late so could not visit this time.
But I still had great fun wondering around the old village, seeing locals enjoying life.
Tips:
1. Make sure you take plenty of water as it can get very hot.
2. Some places allow you to go to the 2nd/3rd floor at a small cost. If you manage to find those places, take the chance it can be very interesting!
📍Changzhou Dao Island, Huangpu - Head to Yuzhu Metro Station and from there is easy to find Yuzhu Wharf.
💰Cost: Ferry cost was a few RMB - it uses the same QR code / Tap& Go code as the Metro/Bus so all very convenient.
🍔 You can find plenty of street vendors around the island who will sell all sorts of snacks like pancakes, drinks, tofu etc

Huangpu Park & Outdoor Swimming
Huangpu Park is one of the oldest parks in Huangpu CBD area. It was originally opened in 1999, but over the past 1.5 years has been under going major renovations.
🏞The park has a large grassy area surrounding a man-made lake in the centre. Many people like to come here in the evening and weekend to exercise and relax.
🐟The lake is the jewel of the park, when the sun is out in force - you can see wonderful sunsets here! (Unfortunately the day I took my camera, I did not!). You’ll find many kids trying to catch fish and other wild waterlife.
💪At the rear of the park, you will also find an outdoor gym area for free use. I even saw one guy brought his own weights 😅
🏊♀️Surprisingly there is also an outdoor swimming pool - Huangpu Park Swimming Paradise. Although inside the park, it is a separate area and requires payment to enter the swimming area - check it out to find out more.
The Huangpu Park is also home of being a central point for emergencies such as helicopter landings, water supply and so on.
What I love about this park is it’s family feeling - whilst in the middle of busy part of town.
Check it out for nice afternoon walk
📍Huangpu East Road, Pearl Delta River Area
🕐Official open time is 7am - 9pm (although that’s not always the case!)
💰Cost: It’s a free park - with free toilet facilities. (Bikes are not permitted in the park)

The Best Cake I’ve had in my life!! 🍰
I’m not even kidding. The cake here is amazing 😍
Every time I think about cake, this place always springs to mind wherever I am in the world. And Why?
The experiences I have had here at The Rocks Cafe, Sydney has always created lasting moments in my mouth with their mouth watering cakes.
When you get to this quaint little cafe, you will see the window filled with different cakes and pastries for your choosing - fruit cakes, chocolate cakes, banana bread… there is a wide range!
Everytime I fly to Australia, I will always allow for 1 day in Sydney just to visit this place. The service is always second to none and satisfaction is 10/10.
My favorite choices are:
- Banoffee Pie
- Double Chocolate Oreo cake
Of course, cakes change seasonally but honestly, I can’t think of a better cafe to sit and eat some cake whilst sitting outside watching the world go by.
If you’re in Sydney, make sure to put this place on your list to visit
📍Head to “The Rocks” in Sydney Harbour and then go to George Street (99 George Street, Sydney)
💰It’s not the cheapest, but it is definitely worth the price
🍔 They have a full menu of food if you’re not into cake!

Where does the Rainforest meet the Reef?
Wow, Port Douglas feels like living in dream! This dreamy town really surprised me by it’s beauty. This town is all about relaxation, really tropical yet casual.
Whether you’re looking for adventure or looking to chill out on the beach this seaside town has something for everyone!
I only stayed here for 1 night as my trip didn’t allow to extend at the time but I so wished I had been able to stay here for a few weeks.
Four mile beach was my favorite - but not because of what you may think. We found a dog rescue centre where you can help take the dogs for a walk and give them some love. (Really dog is a man’s best friend) It was so great to be able to do something so small that I really enjoyed!
The beach isn’t heavily sandy, so it’s great for jogging - and the sea breeze was just perfect!
Next time I go to Australia, I will be back to Port Douglas for sure!
📍Rent a car from Brisbane or other city and drive at your own pace to North Queensland. (Or you can hop on / off the Backpackers bus)
💰Port Douglas was a little more pricey than some other seaside towns, but 100% worth the price!

Which door to Barry?
Barry Island, Wales - What is not to love when the sun is shining? It has a golden beach, some retro shops, a pleasure park and all in the UK!
Out of the many beaches that surround the UK, it’s one of the most up and coming beaches especially if you live in the surrounding Midlands or South West of England as it’s easy to get to.
The beach is much better than nearby Weston Super Mare! Plus there are many cool backdrops that are great for insta worthy photos!
It’s also one of the backdrops of Gavin and Stacy so it may remind you of the fun of Barbados!
When in Barry, make sure you pop down to the local fish and chips on the front and enjoy whilst breathing in the sea breeze!

Is Manting Park worth it?
Did you hear of Manting Park? It’s one of the oldest parks in Xishuangbanna. Full of unique architecture and fauna. It’s full of Dai culture!
The park you can easily spend several hours here wandering around the parks that surround the lake
🌿During the day, this place is great to wonder around the nature, bask in the sun, ride a boat in the lake, feed the fish and take in the different temples.
🐟In one part, there is a place where you can buy fish and release them back into the lake - this is seen as good luck. If you don’t want to buy fish, you can buy fish food to give thanks.
🕊Plus you can also see some wildlife and many birds - there is also an elephant show, parrot and mini-horse on site although not something I enrolled in.
At nighttime, they also hold an evening show with bonfire and lanterns. (Although I didn’t see anything about this during Covid times!)
💰The park costs enter - you can buy tickets on Meituan or simply buy them at the park entrance. I purchased tickets from Meituan for around 30rmb p/p. It was worth the price for a relaxing day out.
📍35 Wanting Road, Jinghong City
🚕 It’s really easy to get to, simply hail a car or self-drive to Manting Park. Parking is available on site.
🍔 There are some food vendors inside the park including drinks, ice creams, snacks and main meals

Alright got ya’s! Yes they’re not real Elephants - but it’s definitely more humane and great for photoshoots.
There are a range of small and big elephants to see!

This place is definitely more local and was great to just watch real life… families enjoying a BBQ picnic, people fishing in the river.

Banna - The Tropics of China
Hidden in the South Western part of Yunnan likes Xishuangbanna or known locally as Banna! Full of tropical rainforests, paddy fields meeting the borders of Laos and Myanmar - this place is an epicentre of rich culture and customs.
✈️Getting here is really easy - Airport is located about 15-20 minute car ride to the city and is best way to come. 🚄If you’re already in Yunnan, then you can take the high speed railway to Banna but further distances, it’s probably quicker to go by plane!
🍔Dai food is based on a lot of spicy/sour tastes and some vegetables are eaten raw. You’ll find pineapple rice popular dish as well as the local BBQs at night time!
🌽For me, the Xishuangbanna local Sweetcorn for breakfast was great - simple, healthy and has a more sticky texture than typical corn
🚕 Getting around Banna is really easy and convenient - just use DiDi to call a taxi or you can look to rent a scooter/bike (But make sure you wear a helmet and have your licence!)

Another day, another park…Huangpu, Guangzhou
🌳Xiangyue Park located in Huangpu (not far from Huolushan Forest Park in Tianhe!).
🚲In fact I cycled from Huolushan Forest Park to Xiangxue at a slow relaxing pace, it took around 1.5 hours!
🏞This park is more flat and very easy to stroll around. Here there are quite a few little ponds and lakes, so many children on the weekend trying to fish!
🧺It was a great spot to grab a cold drink and watch the sunset
📍Located in Huangpu, about 3km from Xiangyue Metro Station. You can easily cycle from the metro, take a didi or Bus 327 from Xiangyue Metro Station takes about 10-15mins.
🥤At this park, the car park was full of vendors selling BBQ meats, snacks, drinks and vegetables! Other than that there isn’t much around this park.

Take yourself for a hike in Tianhe
🌳Huolushan Forest Park located in North Tianhe is awesome day out! And what’s more it’s free!
🏞Expect lots of walking up and down, walk around the whole park takes a good few hours! The park is well signposted of where to go (and where not!).
🧺Here you can take a picnic to the park, stroll around and find somewhere to relax from the lotus park, the city view point or simply under a tree!
📍Located opposite Guangzhou Traffic Management Bureau, Huaguan Lu, Tianhe. (You can also enter the park near 2 metro stations on Line 6: Longdong or Gaotongshi - I prefer to enter from Huaguan Lu side and exit towards Gaotongshi)
🚕 You can take a bus or Didi/Taxi, walking from the metro to the north entrance is also feasible!
🥤There are a few drink and snack vendors near the park entrances and on weekends you may find a few further up the mountain. BUT I would suggest you take at least 1L of water with you and stay hydrated!
🚻 There were two official public toilets we saw around the park (could be more), 1 located near north and 1 near south.

See the flowers blooming in Guangzhou City
📍Located in the CBD of Zhujiang New Town and accessible from many places - head to Huacheng Square
Full of skyscrapers around, it is most surprising and enjoyable idyllic area of the Canton Tower, Museum and Library.
💐 But if you head closer to the Pearl River, you will find an area of flowers which is changed often.
👀 The air is fresh and scent is real, you will almost forget that you are in the middle of the CBD of a large 1st Tier City
This is a great place to come and watch the world go by, or simply take a nice brisk walk in the sunshine after a meal out in many restaurants and cafes around Zhujiang New Town.
P.s. From time to time, you will find different flower shows or displays happening - photo #3-7 is what they were setting up in March 22! Enjoy ✌️

The Canton Tower and Huacheng Square
📍Located at the centre of Guangzhou next to the river, the canton tower stands are 600m high, the highest tower in Guangzhou!
🗼The tower itself has a restaurant, 4D cinema, office and sight seeing platform. There is also a sky drop and newly added adventure high ropes.
📷The best place for getting views of the canton tower is from Huacheng Square and Liede Bridge. Huacheng square is the largest square in Guangzhou and often holds various cultural and seasonal exhibitions and displays, from flower shows to light shows.
⏱The canton tower is lit up daily usually after 7pm in the winter. Summer maybe slightly later as sunny days become longer ☀️
I like to sit along the river across from the canton tower and watch the world go by

My Tips for visiting Chimelong Safari Park
After visiting Chimelong Safari park, here’s my top tips to get the most of your day ☀️
Going on the weekend? ⏰Go early and make the most of the day. Not just to avoid the queues but also many of the free talks and feeding shows mainly happen between 10-2pm
⬆️ Enter from the North Entrance (also don’t get confused for the water park or theme park!), from here you will have the best route (in my opinion!) to start your day with the train around the safari.
🚂 The train takes 30-40minutes, try to sit at the middle to back carriages to get better views for photos and closer to the animals.
Sit on the right side of the train to see more 😉 the road will have various animals roaming around from 🦒 and some other animals.
After getting off the train, it’s time explore on foot.
🚡We made our next destination the cable car starting at Triplets Park station, this is closer to south station but along the way to see various animals and shows.
NOTE: when you take the cable car, take the round trip line and if you’re lucky get one with a glass bottom!
Other key attractions are:
🙉 Monkeys - We could have spent the whole
day in this area as all the monkeys were playing games and having fun!
🐼 Panda enclosure - we were too late (because we really did spend too much time in the monkeys!) but we managed to see them in their sleeping area but feels like we missed out!
🦒 Giraffe - You can feed the giraffes for about 20-30rmb, we opted to watch others feeding them the giraffes still came to us to stick their tongues out.
🦩 Flamingos - although somewhat the smelliest part 😂 there were hundreds of pink, white birds
As well as those there were plenty of others such as meerkats, seals, elephants etc!
Remember to bring plenty of water and snacks to keep you going round the park (or be prepared to pay the price for food at the park!)
So much to enjoy and see! 😊

Lights, Camera, Action - Chaozhou Light Show
Chaozhou is a historical Guangdong city in the north east of the province near Shantou. There is an old saying “If you haven’t been to Chaozhou, you haven’t really been to Guangdong”.
It’s also a foodies heaven! But more about another day!
The Guangji bridge is one of China’s most greatest creations in bridge history. The middle part of the bridge is made of 18 parallel pontoon boats.
During the day you can walk along the bridge to the other side - as long as no boats are coming through, when you will see them takeaway the boats in the middle to let big boats through!
✨At nighttime, the Guangxi bridge is also home to mysterious light show - usually at 8pm and 9pm.
If you go to Chaozhou, it’s definitely worth staying overnight to enjoy the light show as well as the extensive food and tea culture - which all come out at night!
📍Guangji bridge is located at the Han riverside
💰 it’s free to watch the light show (To go on the bridge during the day is around 20-30rmb depending on ticket type)

It’s free and next to it you will find tennis courts and football pitch (Those are at a fee of course!)

You will find various hawkers and street food vendors passing by offering up everything from beer, kites, candy apple and ice creams.
Just make sure you bring sun screen, mosquito repellent and plenty of water to keep hydrated. Oh and remember to take your trash to the bin or take it home!
You can really capture some magnificent sunsets here, it’s worth a few hours to hang out!

🔥It’s a dry and hot place Dajarra with daytime heat reaching +40 degrees and nighttime dropping below freezing in the winter!
✈️This place even has it’s own plane landing strip - with no airport, mainly used for emergencies like the Flying Doctor!
There’s not much to do in Dajarra other than eat a big burger, drink at the local pub or see the annual rodeo. Otherwise it’s a place you’ll probably never hear of… unless you’re on your way to the local mines!
