Peranakan Museum for an informative tour!
#2024wish
If you are up for an immersive and educational history tour, do check out Peranakan Museum. Upon entering the museum, do look up and be impressed by the hanging lanterns of Sam Lo’s contemporary installation. Be prepared to spend a good two to three hours admiring various items on display such as the delicate and colorful textiles and how they are being used to decorate the Peranakan household. Moving into the jewelry section, it’s hard to move my eyes away from the delicate and stunning pieces of jewelry.

Melting pot of cultures in Singapore 🇸🇬
#2024wish
If the melting pot of cultures in Singapore intrigues you, then the Peranakan Museum is definitely a must-visit. The new museum is structured thematically, with galleries spotlighting specific aspects of Peranakan material culture. There are stark differences in organizing the three themes spanned over three floors. I absolutely love the aesthetics of the Ceramics and Food Culture Gallery on the second-floor. The display of food culture is represented through a series of displays on nyonyaware. There is also an impressive installation features the tok panjang, or a traditional long dining table which is laid out with custom dining ware.

#2024wish
The museum’s inner architecture constitutes three levels, containing nine galleries. Each level separates and showcases -with great specificity- a chief aspect of either Peranakan lifestyle, or magnitudinal events in their past. The first floor is where visitors can explore Origins. Second floor provides a peek into the social life of the Peranakans, including their past times and entertainments. Third floor is dedicated to Style which showcases a pretty footwear, accessories, and of course outfits in rich colors!

Find Most Comprehensive Peranakan artefacts!
#2024wish
Peranakan culture has always been something I want to explore. Just nice there is a Peranakan Museum in Singapore that offers a fascinating insight into the development of the Peranakan culture, from its scattered origins in the 1700s and 1800s through to the ways in which Peranakans have adapted to the modernizing influences of the 20th and 21st centuries. It is a boutique museum with one of the world’s finest and most comprehensive collections of Peranakan artefacts. I love the final gallery at third floor that highlights the fashion worn by Peranakans, such as sarong kebaya, footwear and bags.

A hidden coffee shop is located in Fort Canning Park. This is actually a replica of an old-school kopitiam that depicts the importance of Singapore as a center of spice trade, and spices today form an important part of local food culture that visitors can learn about in the gallery. There is also a miniature model showing shipments of spices making their way through to the shophouses along the Singapore River to give a better picture of how spice trade was like.

The installation concludes at the lower rotunda, where flora such as the palmyra palm and the lotus flower, which are native to the region are on display.

Dragon Chamber:A mystical hidden restaurant
#2024wish
This is a chinese restaurant with a modern twist. It is beautifully designed reminiscent of the 90s HK triad movies with the hidden doors, bars and choice of songs used. We ordered a few of their signature items and I would highly recommend the fire chicken 辣子鸡especially! It does have a hint of spiciness 🌶️ but not super hot and the chicken itself is crispy and flavourful. It is also very creative of the chef to add a bowl of sweet caramelised dough fritters (油条) to help ease the spiciness. The dough fritters themselves are pretty tasty.

We were looking for a post-dinner dessert place in Westgate, Singapore and bumped into Flipper's. It is a Japanese soufflé pancake chain and we were spoiled for choices. We ordered a fresh fruit pancake for sharing and it was served after a while. Oh My God, it was so so fluffy as if I was eating clouds. The jiggly pancakes were so soft that no knife was needed. We could taste the fragrant egg and it was a perfect combination with the honey drizzle! Not forget to mention, the airy scoop of cream that came with was so good and added another layer of airiness to the whole dish. We love it !
