Trip to the Magnificent Matanuska Glacier
#Alaska #Glacier
We couldn't describe our experience as anything less than fantastic. During our trip to Alaska, we had the incredible opportunity to visit the Matanuska Glacier. Stretching 27 miles long and 4 miles wide, this valley glacier is located near the Glenn Highway in Glacier View, approximately 100 miles northeast of Anchorage. It holds the distinction of being the largest glacier in the United States accessible by car.
The prospect of witnessing this magnificent glacier firsthand filled us with excitement. The Matanuska Glacier offers guided tours, allowing visitors to safely explore its icy expanse. With the guidance of experts, we slowly walked into the heart of the glacier. Navigating through the icy terrain, we were surrounded by towering ice mountains, creating a breathtaking spectacle.
Despite the cold, the beauty of the Matanuska Glacier was a truly unforgettable experience that we will never forget. We highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Alaska.
Sichuan Dagu Glacier: Lakes like mirrors, magnificent mountains!
I went to Dagu Glacier in Sichuan in October, and on the way to the ropeway in the scenic spot, there were hundreds of monkeys begging on both sides of the road, and there were calm lakes. When arriving at the glacier, the altitude is more than 4,000 meters, which varies from person to person. Some people need to sit down and take oxygen, but young people can do various stunts easily. There is a cafe on the top of the mountain, there is heating in the room, and the view is excellent. Standing on a hill overlooking the magnificent mountains, taking a photo or film is excellent.

Chalaadi Glacier
The start of the trail is about 10km from mestia, you can choose to hire a taxi to there or like us, we choose to walk. But we were lucky enough that there’s a truck driver stop and save us about 5km of walking.
At the trail start we have to cross a quite scary metal bridge, after the bridge it’s so closed to russia border that you might be asked by soldier to check your passport. Then there’s only 2.5km of hike to the glacier. #glacier #outdoor #hiking
Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier
Most first-time Alaskan cruisers probably choose the Glacier Bay cruise, but we heard it can be difficult to see the glaciers there, so we chose the Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier cruise on the Discovery Princess - no regrets. The captain brought us pretty close to the Dawes Glacier early in the morning (~5-6am). We spent some time admiring the beautiful glacier nestled in the mountains while surrounded by floating ice chunks and ribbon waterfalls. These areas cannot be accessed by land, so we’re glad we managed to see this area on the cruise.

Juneau and Mendenhall Glacier
Juneau is the capital of Alaska and a bigger city in the southern part of the state. We arrived at the cruise ship terminal and took a short walk to the downtown Transit Center bus station and hopped on a bus towards Mendenhall Glacier. The glaciers are always changing and shifting (now at a faster pace due to climate change). The park surrounding Mendenhall has a waterfall (Nugget Falls) and hiking trails as well. We took the same bus back downtown and walked around the city, grabbed some food to warm us up from the cold rain.

The coldest place on earth! ⛄️
Antarctica didn’t disappoint! Photos or words cannot describe the feeling when you are on the most pristine and remote continent.
Penguins floating on ice and popping up next to the zodiac, or penguins waddling along their highways they make between the ocean and their colonies which we had to give way to. Seals slipping into water and baby seals at play together whilst their parents were at sea.
Life will never be same again!

Morteratsch Glacier in Switzerland
Last October I went to Morteratsch Glacier in Switzerland, close to Pontresina and St. Moritz.
The Morteratsch glacier is a small, retrieving glacier at the end of a small valley along the bernina pass road. During the last ice-age, it was much bigger.
🥾⛰️🚶You can either walk from Diavolezza cable car Station or to Boval cottage from Moteratsch town. We did the second and the view on the glacier is brilliant.
🍂 Best season: May-October
🎟️ Hiking is free, but you have to pay for food & drinks in the Boval cottage, if you don't bring your own snacks.

Great Hike to 'Boval cottage' in Switzerland
Boval cottage is 2494m above sea level in the Swiss Mountains, close to the city St. Moritz. It's next to the Morteratsch Glacier, one of the remaining glaciers in Southeast-Switzland. 🏔️ It's a doable hike starting from Morteratsch village. A second option is to hike over the glacier, starting from Diavolezza cablecar. 🚠 This option is better to do with an experienced guide.
🎫 Ticket? No entrance, the hike is free.
🏨 You can even sleep in the cottage. But hiking both ways in one day is definitely doable. The cottage has nice Swiss food and local specialities. 🫕

2 days in Dagu glacier
Getting There - From chengdu this place is very accessible. The closest glacier to any Chinese city, Dagu glacier stands 5000m tall above sea level. With constant snow all year round, this mountain is a winter wonderland.
The bus from chengdu’s chadianzi takes you directly to the town nearest to the glacier. Even though the journey says it will take 6 hours. it’ll most likely take 10+ hours depending on traffic and road conditions. However you will not get bored on this journey. The bus will let you gain an insight into the beautiful region. Once belonging to Tibet, you’ll glimpse the cultural influences of the region. The roads will wind up Into the mountains, with temples and villages scattering the mountain side.

Icely Jakulsarlon
Jökulsárlón is a glacial lagoon, bordering Vatnajökull National Park in southeastern Iceland. The trip was somewhere in June 2014. It was around 12 to 17 celcius.
We secured the trip through a guided tour. Although it was quite expensive, we believe it was the best option knowing that we have very limited time in Iceland. Transportation, food, guide and accommodation were taken care of effectively. The journey from Reykjavik by bus took us about 11 hours and we made two stops at Hvolsvöllur and Vík í Mýrdal.
The trip was all amazing as the landscape was all covered with snow. mountains, roads, villages were all icy cold.
Jakulsarlon offers a gorgeous, peaceful and amazing glacial lagoon.

Jade Dragon summit: Glacier Park
This scenic spot requires your full strength. Snow amount varies depending from season, however the scenery from the summit, and be able to prove yourself you did it, is amazing. Great places for pictures (enjoy the coolest alpaca ever).
You need to take a cable car to summit. Stairs from there are your best friend and worst enemy. You can find food shops along the way, too keep energy and warmth.
💲Inside the park are many restaurants and shops. You can rent a waterproof warm coat if required. If you need oxygen before the cable car, buy more. To avoid complications and additional charges, visit the park with a group tour.
🏔 You go over 2,500m in few hours. Don’t risk your body, listen to your heart beat. Take your time climbing, wait for few minutes until your body acclimate.
⚠️ Keep your passport at hand

Glacial ponds of the Blue Moon Valley
If you want to visit a majestic valley with clear waters that come from a sacred glacial, the Blue Moon Valley in Yulong National Park is a must visit. Altitude for BMV is 3,600m. You can take local bus, distance to the park is 13 km and costs only 20 RMB (leaves from Lijiang Old Town North Gate).
This freezing blueish water transforms in white during rainy season. Located in the Jade Dragon 🐉 Snow Mountain park, this scenic spot will stay in your mind forever. I suggest you to visit as early as possible, to avoid crowd spaces. This park in general is huge, and every spot can be incredibly iconic.
Inside the park are many restaurants and shops, some are quite expensive. You can bring your own food. Also, you can rent a waterproof warm coat if temperature is too low, or buy additional oxygen if you need it. Although, it’s better to buy your own in Lijiang town (inside the park costs are 2-3 times more).
🔅 Only Chinese can pre-book tickets online. To avoid complications and additional charges, I’ll advice you to go to the park with a local group tour.
⚠️ You need to keep your passport with you at all times, pay many different tickets and show different health codes. Just keep in mind these hectic steps are the only thing separating you from one of a lifetime experience.

If you ever go to Iceland in wintertime visiting the ice caves is a must do. You’ll need to come in a cold period as you walk on the frozen glacier lagoons and the ice caves are actually ice bergs stuck in the frozen ice. You need a local guide to keep you safe on the ice, very warm clothes and then just go explore. The caves change every year and always look different. Every time I come here I’m so amazed about what nature can create and its forces. The glaciers and ice from it are just incredible!

Jade Dragon Snow Mountain & Blue Moon Valley
These attractions are located in a 5A class national park in China, near Lijiang. They're definitely worth going to.
How to get there by bus: from Lijiang take the special bus line 101, for 15RMB. The bus will take you all the way up to the cable way that leads to the glacier scenic view. The ride takes about 1.5 hours and the last bus back is at 17:00, so it's best to start your day early.
Before the bus enters the park, two officials will get on the bus and sell you an entrance ticket for 100RMB.
To go up the cable way to view the glacier, you will have to pay 140RMB. You might want to buy a spray container of oxygen sold at the entrance to the cable way, since the air is thin at the top. The highest point in the scenic area is 4680m above sea level. If you decide not to come with a coat, you can rent one there. It's very cold there, but also sunny, so you might want to protect yourself from the sun.
Once you get back down from the glacier, take a shuttle to the Blue Moon Valley and enjoy the great views.
To get back to Lijiang by bus, take line 101 from the same place it dropped you off.
