Elaborate Decorations
Polesdon Lacy puts on a magnificent display of festive decorations. This year’s decorations are themed around ‘Fairy Tales’. This theme is excellent fun for children, but also very suitable for adults, as the display includes a number of historic and early editions of fairy tales from the estate’s library. This is a perfect destination for visitors from around the world, and is only half an hour from Heathrow Airport.#freehotelstay #fairytale #nationaltrust
Rielvaulx revelry!
Challenging walk from Helmsley to Rielvaulx abbey ruins and back again, there’s a few circular routes you can take but they all pass through the woods which has some steep ups and downs. You have to pay to go into the grounds of the Abbey as the #nationaltrust maintains the property but you can get fantastic views from the road and forest behind it. And there’s plent my of charming #cafe in Helmsley, gorgeous day out for all.
Get out into nature
As I write this Autumn is fast approaching, so why not get out your walking boots and smell the fresh air!
Kinver Edge Forest is a ridge and hill fort overlooking red sandstone rock houses. Within Kinver Edge there is a pocket of wilderness that buzzes with life. From the sound of the trees whistling in the wind, to the bats flying about at night - it all comes alive!
What’s more, there is ample green space and benches to sit around and soak up this natural wonder. Many people like to bring a picnic, walk their dog and generally walk the different trails of Kinver Edge.
If you get chance, check out the Holy Austin Rock Houses whilst you’re there!
📍Kinver Edge, West Midlands
💰It’s free! Just get yourself there - note there is no public transport to this.
🍔 There is a small cafe onsite located at the south of the forest park as well as other local eateries and pubs nearby.

Autumn adventures in Nottinghamshire
A truly enchanting trip to Robin Hood country! I spent most of my time in Clumber Park exploring the massive grounds of this #nationaltrust property. A really #Stunning trip, I ran my way around the different loops and you could easily do 20km in one loop. You can see farm houses and manor houses from different periods and #Treatyourself to an afternoon tea at the walled garden restaurant.
West Front of Montacute House
This is the West Front of Montacute House - it’s been the main entrance since the late 18th century and I can just imagine carriages arriving for balls and parties down the very long driveway (I was standing maybe a quarter of the way up!). I read something interesting about the middle section of this facade - it was added in 1787 in order to create internal corridors that ran alongside several of the rooms on the ground and first floors. Previously, the rooms were laid out in a basic row and you had to go through one to get into another - so there was no privacy! Corridors weren’t really a thing at the time, apparently, but adding them meant that each room could be accessed separately, no doubt sparing many blushes and creating all kinds of new opportunities for scandal and intrigue! Corridors, who’d have thought they were so revolutionary? Happy Monday! 🌿💛🌿💛🌿
