[Tokyo] Learn about the history of Suginami Ward here!
▽ Suginami Ward Local History Museum
At the local history museum in Omiya, Suginami Ward, you can learn about pottery excavated in Suginami Ward and the history of the surrounding area.
The history of Suginami Ward, where many railroad tracks run through and the Koshu Kaido highway runs through, is very interesting.
It looks like it could be used for summer vacation homework.
▽Recommended points
On the premises, there is an old house with traditional furniture.
It is recommended because you can see the large hearth and hearth up close!
It is also a cultural asset, so it is a valuable experience.

Extra thic
Extra thick? Extra flat udon!
I heard they have himokawa so I went there. It's about a 3-minute walk from Koenji Station. The address is Daiichi Kumano Building, 7-5 Koenji Minami 4-chome, Suginami-ku, Tokyo. Depending on the time, there may be a line.
You can choose the thickness of the noodles, so I went for himokawa! They don't seem to make a lot, so they serve it with a mixed portion of extra thick noodles.
The photos show the country soup and spicy meat soup. Even in the summer when you don't have much of an appetite, it's close to the station and it's a dish I'd like to go back to!

Za Koenji
Za Koenji
The Suginami Arts Center is located at 2-1-2 Koenji Kita, Suginami-ku, Tokyo. It has a small theater, two halls, workshops, and a cafe. You can check the event schedule on the official website.
When I went, the "Za no Ichi" (held on the third Saturday of every month) was being held in the theater square. You can look around this space for free.
There were stalls selling freshly picked vegetables, local products, honey, fish, and more.

Café-Hopping Along the Chūō Line – Toast, Pancakes & Retro Vibes
#cityplaybook
If you’re a café lover with a soft spot for retro charm, the JR Chūō Line is your dream route. Stretching west from central Tokyo, it passes through neighborhoods filled with local gems—and some seriously good coffee.
First stop: Soreiyu in Nishi-Ogikubo. This classic kissaten (Japanese-style café) is known for its affordable breakfast set—thick-cut toast, a boiled egg, and coffee. It’s simple, satisfying, and so comforting.
Next up: Arrow in Asagaya. This place feels frozen in time, in the best way. It’s famous for its towering hotcakes—big enough to share (but you might not want to). Fluffy on the inside, golden on the outside.
Still in Asagaya, Kuroneko Sabō (Black Cat Café) is a cozy spot with a handwritten menu and homemade treats. Their rare cheesecake is light, creamy, and the perfect way to end a café crawl.
Why I recommend the Chūō Line for café-hopping:
・Each stop has its own flavor, both in atmosphere and menu
・You’ll discover places that feel more like someone’s living room than a coffee chain
📍Along the JR Chūō Line – Nishi-Ogikubo, Asagaya, and more

Ogikubo Local Guide – Quiet Streets, Local Finds & a Hint of Anime
#cityplaybook
Tucked away on the west side of Tokyo, Ogikubo is a peaceful, lived-in neighborhood with plenty of local charm. It’s not flashy, but that’s what makes it so special—it’s the kind of place where you can slow down and see a softer side of the city.
I started the day with a visit to Ogikubo Hachiman Shrine, a quiet spot surrounded by trees and a calming energy. Even though it’s close to the station, it feels like a little hidden pocket of peace.
Then I wandered through the Ogikubo Kyokai-dori Shopping Street, a cozy arcade filled with small shops, bakeries, and friendly locals. It’s the kind of place where every storefront has a story.
One unexpected gem? The Suginami Animation Museum! If you’re into anime (or just curious), this free museum is fun, hands-on, and surprisingly cool. A reminder that Ogikubo is part of Tokyo’s creative side too.
Why I recommend Ogikubo:
・It’s quiet, local, and full of character—perfect for a low-key Tokyo day
・You’ll find a mix of tradition, creativity, and warm community vibes

Exhibition of "Skantique," a Nordic antique shop in Nishi-Ogikubo, Tokyo
Rörstrand is a Swedish ceramic workshop (1956–2003) known for its figurines of people and animals, with many collectors in Sweden.
・
Precious items discovered in Sweden were exhibited by the Nordic antique shop "Skantique" at poefu in Nishi-Ogikubo, Tokyo.
・
Although already sold, visitors could see the figurines of Jesus and the people gathered at the stable, which were also featured on TV.
・
Each handmade figurine was crafted with expressive and adorable features. The central baby Jesus was particularly charming.
・
Swedish traditional crafts, such as baskets woven from thinly sliced pine wood called "Spånkorg," were also beautifully displayed.
・
It was an exhibition that evoked the freshness of spring.

Spring Serenity at Koenji Hikawa Shrine💐
#aprilblooms
I dropped by Koenji Hikawa Shrine this spring, and although it’s a compact little spot near the station, it was buzzing with visitors! It has this peaceful, cozy vibe — perfect for a quick spiritual break during a city stroll. The hanachozu (flower-filled water basin) was especially pretty, adding a colorful touch to the shrine’s atmosphere.
Even though it’s small, there’s something really charming about this place. Locals clearly love it — I saw a steady stream of people coming to pray and snap a few pics. It’s a lovely stop if you’re in the Koenji area, especially during springtime.
Why You Should Visit:
✔ Conveniently located close to Koenji Station, perfect for a quick visit.
✔ Beautiful seasonal flower arrangements in the water basin (hanachozu).
