The hotel is in an excellent position overlooking the sea with parking reasonably available. Our room was fairly basic but we did have a sea view and it had everything we needed. Breakfast was very good with fruit, cheeses, cereals, cakes, honey etc. There is a small terrace overlooking the sea but there is no bar service so you have to carry your drinks up to it. We saw afterwards that a glass of wine or Aperol was included in our tariff but we were not offered it and hadn`t realised. The day we left the UK the Daily Telegraph featured the hotel but we certainly paid more than the price quoted in the newspaper. #siracusa is a town on the island of #sicily and it is located on the east coast. It is really far away from Palermo - 350km and much closer to Catania airport. If you go there you will probably need to rent a car. There are many narrow streets and cathedrals around. The architecture is in the expected style for #italy #happynewyear

The joint ticket of the Parco Archaeologicodella Neapolis includes the tomb of Archimedes, the Roman Amphitheatre, the ear of Dionysius and the Greek Theatre, which is well worth a visit. The day I went, what a holiday, actually free of votes, saved 10 euros. Roman amphitheatre, the weather is serious and the scale is not very large. The arches, steps and stage that entered the theater have been well preserved. There are many tombs in the periphery of the theater, and it is impossible to know which one is the tomb of Archimedes. Going along the main road, the lush green trees along the way, a two-story lodge in the distance, especially conspicuous, and the flowers on the side are bright. The ancient Greek amphitheatre is facing the sea, standing on a high place, and can see the sea far away. Regrettably, the theater has been painted with cement, and the renovation has been as flat as the new one. It does not see the traces of history. It is really sad. Built in the 5th century BC, Sicily's largest Greek theater, 130 meters in diameter, semi-circular, 67 rows of seats divided into 9 parts, can see the stage from any angle. It is based on a large rock overlooking the city. The final tragedy of Aeschylus was staged in the theater. Every summer, classic operas are still staged here.

Syracuse was an unexpected addition to our itinerary. Located about 1-2 hours by bus from the main city of Catania, this charming and tranquil town is a delightful destination! Compared to Catania, it is much cleaner and less crowded with tourists, giving it a cozy and adorable vibe. From the bus stop, you can walk to the city center and reach the seaside. Along the way, you'll find small shops and markets, making the experience incredibly soothing.

Three days and two nights of romance and adventure in Sicily Starting point Catania Airport The sky over Catania was dyed light pink in the morning, and Mount Etna in the distance was still emitting mist. Starting from this vibrant city, Day 1 — Love begins in the city of the sea, drive along the winding coastal road to the dreamy town hanging on the cliff - Taormina. In the ancient Greek theater, on the stands, in front of you is the boundless Ionian Sea, so blue that it breaks your heart. The alleys of the town are filled with the aroma of lemon and coffee. As you walk, you will find small art galleries, old bookstores and handmade ice cream shops hidden in the corners. In the afternoon, the sun began to become lazy, and after the hot springs we continued north to Messina. This is the gateway to Sicily and the closest point to the Italian mainland. At dusk, I watched the ferry slowly leaving the harbor. The golden sunset sprinkled on the sea, like a layer of honey. At night, we ordered local swordfish and white wine at a restaurant by the harbor. The sea breeze tasted a bit salty and a bit sweet. Day 2 — Chasing light along the North Shore! The next morning, we sailed west along the north coast to Cefalù, known as the most beautiful seaside town in Sicily. This is a town that makes you want to slow down, with narrow alleys, cobblestone roads, and colorful clothes drying on the balconies. It was like walking into another time and space. At night, Palermo becomes mysterious and charming. Jazz music floats in the old town, and strangers talk about their dreams in the tavern. This night seemed to have merged into the soul of this city. Day 3 — Over the hills, back to the starting point of the dream. On the last day, we abandoned the coastal route and chose to cross the inland of Sicily. Driving to Enna, this ancient city standing on a high hill is like a fortress in the sky. Standing on the high walls of Castello Castle, you can see the hills of Sicily rising and falling like waves of the earth. This is a suitable place to settle down and say goodbye. In the afternoon, we drove slowly back to Catania Airport along the winding mountain road along the highway. Looking back on these three days, it is like a condensed dream, with the embrace of the sea, the tenderness of the mountains, and the passion of the city. The Ear of Dionysius (Orecchio di Dionisio) is a large ear-shaped cave located at the end of the Latomia del Paradiso (Heaven's Quarry). The cave is 23 meters high, and its immense size is evident when you see photos of it with people for scale. The cave was named by the painter Caravaggio. Dionysius was the name of the tyrant who once ruled Syracuse. Voices inside the cave echo all the way to the outside, which is quite surprising. Even a small voice carries well. According to legend, the tyrant Dionysius used to imprison enemy captives in this cave to eavesdrop on their plots and secret conversations.
