Izumo Taisha Shrine is known as a sacred place for matchmaking located in Izumo City, Shimane Prefecture, and enshrines Okuninushi-no-Okami.
Okuninushi-no-Okami is revered as the "god of matchmaking," but not just the bond between men and women, but all kinds of connections that surround people.

①The great torii gate of Seidamari
A large stone monument and The main gate of Izumo Taisha Shrine is made of steel pipes, 8.8m high and 12m wide. The approach to the shrine starts from here.
② Harae no Yashiro
On the right side of the approach is a shrine dedicated to the four Haraido no Kami, so you can purify yourself here before reaching the shrine.

The approach to Izumo Taisha Shrine is a rare downward approach in Japan.
④ Pine Approach
The pine trees, which have been selected as one of the 100 most famous pines in Japan, continue along the path.
To protect the roots of the pine trees, you cannot walk through the center of the pine trees. You walk on both sides of the path.
The torii gates on the pine-lined approach are made of iron.
⑤ Chozuya (purification fountain)
Before entering the sacred area of the Aragaki fence, you purify your hands and mouth.
⑥ Copper torii gate
Made of bronze, it was donated in 1666 by Mori Amihiro, the great-great-grandson of Mori Motonari.
⑦ Haiden (worship hall)
The worship hall, newly built in 1963, is said to be the largest wooden shrine building in the postwar period.
The shimenawa ropes are on the opposite sides to those at regular shrines.
⑧ Soganoyashiro (Soga Shrine)
A shrine dedicated to Susanoo-no-Mikoto, who is famous for defeating the Yamata no Orochi.
⑨ Kaguraden (Sacred Music Hall)
Built in 1981, it is used for festivals, prayers, and weddings. etc. are performed.
Stained glass is used to decorate the front gable.

🔹The general way to worship at Izumo Taisha is "2 bows, 2 claps, 1 bow", but the official way to worship at Izumo Taisha is "2 bows, 4 claps, 1 bow".
You should also follow this method when visiting shrines other than the main shrine.
