My friends thought I had gone abroad, but I am in Guangzhou
Guangzhou, Shamian Island.
It is a sandbar formed by the Pearl River, hence the name Shamian. In the early days, Shamian was an important port in Guangzhou. After a hundred years, more than a dozen countries have set up consulates on Shamian, nine foreign banks, more than forty foreign companies operated on Shamian, and the Guangdong Customs Club, Guangzhou Club and others were established on Shamian. With the changes in modern history, Shamian has become a microcosm of China's modern history and the history of concessions. The European-style buildings on Shamian Island have formed a unique open-air architectural 'museum'.
Surrounded by ancient trees, shaded by green trees, and fragrant with flowers🌸The sun jumps between the leaves, and from time to time you can hear the birds singing🕊Wandering among these colorful ancient buildings🏰Everywhere is beautiful scenery, free and comfortable, lazy and casual.
Every day there are many photography enthusiasts to check in📸Literary and artistic small shops, coffee shops☕️, French restaurants🍽Guangzhou is in a hurry, Shamian is leisurely. Feel the unique Cantonese romance!💕

A historical European oasis in Guangzhou
Shamian Island is my favourite place in Guangzhou and it was my safe haven during my 6 months living there, it was an oasis of calm in such a chaotic city. The Island was divided into concessions given to France and the UK in the 19th century and foreigners lived and worked on the island to help support the export of Chinese products. The island is separated from the mainland by a small river and this created a self contained zone that allowed western nations to establish trade missions without ‘being present’ on the mainland. Ultimately America, France, Holland, Italy, Germany, Portugal, japan and the UK had a presence on the island in big stone mansions along the water.
The buildings now house cafes, restaurants and shops and has become a surreal tourist destination, the buildings lining the street were built in the style of their respective western powers so it feels like you could be in Paris, London or Amsterdam. The buildings are grand and imposing as each nation tried to outdo the other with their architectural styles, leaving tree lined boulevards lined with buildings that stand out against the Chinese city that has developed around them.
You can reach the island via the Huangsha metro station and then walking over an overpass, also many bus routes have stops just outside the bridge that links the island to greater Guangzhou.
I’d really recommend this to anyone living in or visiting Guangzhou who is overwhelmed by the sheer scale and pace of the city, I used to love taking a book or my laptop to the Starbucks and just enjoying the peace.

Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
The whole street in Guangzhou is a place full of attractions, and I walked 15 kilometers
The first stop is Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street, which is really long.
Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street is one of the three traditional prosperous business centers in Guangzhou, gathering Lingnan architecture culture, Lingnan food culture and Lingnan folk customs in Lingnan culture. The arcade buildings are the iconic buildings of Shangxiajiu, stretching for kilometers, and it is currently the largest and best preserved in Guangzhou.
The second stop is Yongqingfang, which can be reached by walking along Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street. There are many attractions in Yongqingfang.
The Xiguan Yongqingfang Tourist Area has the most complete arcade building group in Guangzhou and the Republic of China-style buildings with Chinese and Western styles. It has a profound historical and cultural accumulation and is a national 4A-level tourist attraction.
The main attractions are Liwan Lake Park, Pantang Wuyue, Renwei Ancestral Temple, Wen Tower, Jiang Guangnai's former residence, Yongqingfang, Bruce Lee's ancestral home, and Cantonese Opera Art Museum.
The third stop is Xihua Road, where you can feel the unique fireworks of Guangzhou. It's a place where locals hang out, very down-to-earth, and the things are cheap and the taste is very authentic.
Recommended food: Beef offal on the pedestrian street, personally think that Xiaolujiang's beef offal is more cost-effective, and Nanxin's double skin milk, Xihua Road's shark fin, the taste is very authentic.

Shangxiajiu Neon Lights
Shangxiajiu Walk Night at its best!
Shangxiajiu is one of the most busiest pedestrian streets in Guangzhou. With long walk of 1,240 meters, it’s packed with clothes shops, shoes shops and snack shop also good old restaurants.
Day trip walk around Shangxiajiu is a bit crowded so I prefer going to Shangxiajiu at night because of it’s beautiful neon lights! Its glowing lights feels you back to old school neons and watching old China. Best come early evening as they turn off lights around 11PM.
Transport to Shangxiajiu by metro Line 8 Cultural Park Exit E, Hualinsi Buddhist Temple Line 8 Exit E.

Guangzhou old five-star hotel, white swan hotel stay full experience h
I want to confess to Guangzhou White Swan Hotel first! This is really one of the most satisfying hotels I have ever stayed at. Let me introduce it first.
Introduction:
White Swan Hotel is located in Baishuitan, Shamian, Guangzhou. It opened in 1983 and is the first Chinese-foreign cooperative five-star hotel in China.
In 2010, the third national cultural relics survey in Guangdong Province, Guangzhou White Swan Hotel was identified as a cultural relic.
Don't worry that he will be too old. On July 15, 2015, the Guangzhou White Swan Hotel, which was closed for three years, officially opened for business.
Selecting the White Swan Hotel was introduced to us by a local uncle. The most famous white swan is his restaurant, which is an absolute highlight. Locals will come here to have morning tea, where you can experience the most traditional old Guangzhou morning tea culture.
Location: The hotel is a 5-minute walk from Huangsha Subway Station (Line 1 and Line 6), a 35-minute drive from Guangzhou East Railway Station and a 45-minute drive from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport.
The opposite side is the sand surface. It is very convenient to walk in the past and bend. In short, I am very in love with this location! !
Features: The hotel has a swimming pool. After leisure, I also took a few photos of the pool, haha.
Accommodation experience: good sanitation and sound insulation.
Price: 1000 yuan---3000 yuan ranging
We have a luxury city view room of more than 1,000 yuan [excluding early]
strongly recommended! !!! Hotel dining!
Yutang Chun warm and Hongtu House each eat a meal, very refined.
This morning tea that I ate at Hongtufu has been thinking about it and want to hurry back and eat again. Here is the old Cantonese cuisine in Guangzhou. His traditional dim sum is more refined and creative, with many different types! ! Guangzhou's uncle told me that this is still one of the best choices for old Guangzhou morning tea, in short, five-star recommendation! !
Yu Chuntang's food is also famous. I read the introduction and said that it is the oldest restaurant in Guangzhou, which is the top-ranked restaurant in the heart of the city. What is the sorrowful Shaqima, the crispy pork roast, the citronella suckling pig? What is classic and must! !
Ah! This winter, the northern sister must fly back to the south and feel the warmth of the South!
Maggie..
