Short stay in Rayong
Rayong is pretty big in my opinion; it took me 3 hours driving from Bangkok. Then I stayed in Holiday Inn & Suites Rayong City Centre which was so comfortable and accessible to anywhere in Rayong. It's also located nearby a big shopping mall.
The staffs were so friendly and helpful; breakfast and facilities were super great with reasonable price.
When you don't want to go outside, there's a fascinating rooftop bar on 30th floor to chill and enjoy the night view until 1 am. So pleasure staying here!!

The Rayong Aquarium is a small research facility about 25 km from Rayong City.
There is a cost to enter but it’s not much (maybe 30 Bath) but it helps to keep the centre active.
There are many small tanks with Thai explanations and some rudimentary English-but enough if you speak only English.
There is a single larger tank that you kind of walk through and around.
At the end of the tanks there are some static displays about a range of sea topics, historical fishing methodologies, shells, sea-and interface, sharks and whales in the area etc.
There is a largish carpark, a small souvenir shop and toilets.
Its not a big and glamorous aquarium but when you leave you think, “well that was worth it”.

Highly recommend this place to a family with kids. The aquarium is not that much big like the others but wonderful.
Getting There - Driving is the most appropriate way to go to this place. Go straight to the bay of Ban Phe (same route as Khao Laem Ya-Mo Ko Samet National Park).
Location - 2 Phe, Mueang Rayong District, Rayong 21160
Food & Restaurants - The aquarium is located near the local market. You can enjoy local food, especially seafood here. Many restaurants are also around there.

A beachy getaway
Koh Samed Island
Koh Samed Island is 45 minutes away from Bangkok. This island is frequent by locals hence you will experience leaser travellers from other countries. Expense wise is also lower compared to Koh Samui. Travellers can get a mini bus transport from Ekkamai Bus Station. You are to go to Rayong Ferry Terminal by mini bus then purchase a ferry ticket (you have an option to go by speedboat or normal ferry service) the difference is pricing and time.
Nonetheless, after so much time of travelling, you will experience white sandy beaches, friendly locals and awesome thai food. I would suggest you rent a motorbike (license required) and travel around the island by bike, see different beaches and experience the views. Island hopping and snorkelling is also encouraged.

Among the various beaches on the island, we opted for Sai Kaew beach, the most popular one. Our 3-night stay was delightful, with its fine white sand and clear waters. There are plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from, adding to the enjoyment!
