Dahab is the second largest resort on the Sinai Peninsula after Sharm el-Sheikh. It is especially popular among fans of those water sports that require wind or depth. Windsurfing, kitesurfing and diving - in Egypt, it is Dahab that is recognized as the best place to practice these sports.
Dahab, with a population of 6,000 people, has an infrastructure that is quite complete for an urban-type settlement: a bank, a post office, a hospital, pharmacies, small supermarkets, restaurants and cafes. The whole city is divided into several small areas:
The "old" city, which is called Masbat. Its central part is the embankment, along which there are restaurants and cafes, small shops and Bedouin shops.
Mashraba is a quarter with old houses, where there are many inexpensive camps. It is inhabited mainly by Arabs who came to work.
Bedouin district of Assala. Here you can observe the real life of the local people: a beach with flocks of Bedouin children, nets of local fishermen hung near the houses, bargaining in greengrocers' shops.
Medina (Dahab City) is a residential area with apartment buildings. On the territory of this area there is a bus station, a hospital, a post office, as well as a Ghazala supermarket with pleasant non-tourist prices.
The Laguna area is located at a distance of 3-4 km from the tourist Masbat. Here are the best and most expensive hotels, as well as windsurf and kite centers, diving stations.
