The snow is beautiful, the sun is warm, and the key is that the cost performance is super high, the average cost is not much, but the experience is full! 📍Location: Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia 🚗Transportation: It takes only two hours to get there by high-speed train from Beijing, and only 40 minutes from Hohhot, which is very convenient! 🌍Itinerary: Day 1: Wulanhada Volcano - Laolihai Day 2: Huitengxile Grassland ✅Must-see attractions 🌋Wulanhada Volcano Geopark This place is free! It’s absolutely worth the 2+ hours journey from Hohhot. Lots of people dressed as astronauts here which is really cute. There are many volcanos around that you can drive around and visit them all but no. 6 seems to be the most popular one. Not to worry if you didn’t pack any food with you (I didn’t) as there are many vendors selling food and snacks in the area. A trip costing 500💰 per person allowed me to experience the magnificent scenery of grasslands and volcanoes! 🏞️ Below is my detailed itinerary and expenses. Come and check it out with me! 🚗 Chartered Car: 90💰 per person for two people (a chartered car usually costs 300💰 for one day). From Ulanqab city to Ulan Hada🌋, it's about 160+ kilometers round trip, taking about an hour and a half to drive. 🏠 ✅Yunqi Yesu: The environment is clean and tidy. It gets a bit cold at night, but it's equipped with a heater and extra thick blankets, and everything is well-stocked. On clear nights, lying in the tent and stargazing is absolutely enchanting! The breakfast is unique, and the service is excellent. Highly recommended! 🍬 Food: 35💰 per person, ordered takeout and bought groceries from the supermarket. Delicious and affordable, highly recommend everyone to try it! ✅Mengxiansen Freshly Roasted Beef Jerky: Their beef jerky is all freshly roasted, with many flavors, delicious and not expensive. ✅Lisha Fresh Dairy Shop: They have many cultural and creative products, souvenirs, bulk dairy products, roasted milk skin, milk curds, and freshly roasted beef jerky, a wide variety. 🛣 There's an internet-famous road from the grasslands to the volcano, which is very photogenic and a relatively niche spot. You can see Little Lamb No. 6🌋, take photos with the lambs, or even rent a lamb (30💰 per hour). The lambs are all very cute, odorless, and you can pet them freely. There are also roasted lamb skewers nearby, which are delicious, but not very cost-effective. It's recommended to eat them outside the scenic area. 🌋 We only made a brief stop at Volcano No. 3. At the foot of the mountain, there's a sign with the slogan "Ten Thousand Year Volcano Witnessing Ten Thousand Year Love". You can gaze at each other from different mountain peaks. day1️⃣ 2️⃣ Arrive at Xiangshawan Depart from Xi’an, take the train (soft sleeper for one night) to Dalate West Station, avoiding backtracking. If you really don’t want to take the train, you can fly to Baotou. Stay at Fusha in Xiangshawan for the best value. The hotel includes unlimited scenic area tickets, transportation, three meals buffet, VIP wristband, cable car—all-inclusive at the best price, much better value than staying outside the scenic area. If you want to play in Xiangshawan for two days, this is much more cost-effective. (❗If time is limited and you can only play in Xiangshawan for one day, special forces don’t need to stay inside the scenic area; you can choose hotels in Dalate city.) day3️⃣4️⃣ Hohhot We flew back from Hohhot, so we rented a car for both ways in Hohhot. Take the high-speed train 🚅 from Dalate to Hohhot. 🏠 Accommodation: Highly recommend Shangri-La Hotel Hohhot, right next to the Old Bull Children’s Exploration Museum (a public welfare project by the CEO of Mengniu). Free 🆓 for kids to play, a whole day is not enough. Visit Dazhao Temple for travel photography, check in at various food spots, Kuang Alley, etc. Two days are quite tight. day5️⃣ Chilechuan Alpine Grassland (There are three Chilechuan, don’t get the name wrong. Nearby is Naobao Village.) If time is tight, you can stay only one day in Hohhot and one day in Chilechuan. 🏠 Accommodation: Qingzi Yunchuan Hotel, next to the hotel is an exciting equestrian show with a large venue. The rooms are clean; recommend the room type with a terrace. If you have time, you can visit Naobao Village, which closes at 10 PM. It has a Jiangnan water town feel. We stayed at Anda Resort Center, inside Mongolian yurts, relatively new and clean. Next to it is Niubaba Happy Grassland, with many activities like grass sledding, horseback riding, feeding lambs, go-karts, small trains, and more. day7️⃣ Ulanqab Wulan Hada Volcano 🏠 Accommodation: Qingyin | Villa Leisure Resort (Wulan Hada Volcano Branch) Close to the volcano, the owner is nice, the food is delicious, the accommodation environment is excellent, the bedding and hygiene are the best in the village, with good aesthetics. The owner will help you buy discounted volcano tickets and provide volcano travel guides. day8️⃣ Yunduo Gacha · Barwan Ecological Pasture Homestay 🚗 Self-driving from Ulanqab back to Hohhot. Depart from Beijing Qinghe or Beijing North Station, about 2 hours by high-speed rail. There's not much to do in Ulanqab city itself—it's mostly about visiting volcanoes and grasslands, which are better in summer. We went during New Year's Day mainly to see the volcanoes. There was thick snow, making it an off-season trip with very few tourists. 📍Accommodation Jinji Hotel Victoria Plaza Branch About 20+ minutes by taxi from the train station. Convenient dining options nearby. A Jinji Hotel room for under 300 yuan per night was a steal—the hotel is quite new. Breakfast includes lamb offal soup and shaomai (steamed dumplings), which were great. The floor heating in winter is extremely warm. 📍Itinerary Ulanqab is actually best suited for self-driving since its natural attractions are somewhat spread out.
