When travelling to Inner Mongolia, mostly people look forward to see the grassland or desert. We too, have it in mind. Unfortunately, we weren't able to see it instead we saw the snowland. 😅 We weren't expecting it since we left Beijing in Autumn so we thought it was Autumn too in Inner Mongolia. Well, in Chayouzongqi, Inner Mongolia to be more specific. Anyway, we spent one night in Yurt to experience it. We arrived at night and the staff were very welcoming. It was quite cold so we were glad our Yurt has a heater and a hot shower. It was comfortable to stay and sleep . The staff gave us some kind of disposable bed sheets cover, blanket and pillow covers , we were wondering why but later on we realized, we had to put them on because there were some bugsin our room and luckily we brought repellent with us so it didn't matter to us when we slept. I suggest to some travellers who are going to stay in Yurt in Inner Mongolia in Autumn or Winter. Before booking the hotel you have to ask whether the rooms have heater because it's freezing there and also prepare some coats and repellent for your comfort.

The round trip is 300 km. It is recommended to drive or rent a car/share a car. It is now the off-season, so renting a car costs about 💰400, and sharing a car costs 💰100 per person. I came alone, so the driver took good care of me, took a lot of beautiful photos for me, and brought us big lamb buns and salty milk tea 🧋. I love it so much!

The grass is now bare, so I came here with the expectation of seeing a desolate grassland. I didn't expect it to snow ❄️, which made me, a child from the south, so happy! The vast snowfield is so beautiful!

2️⃣ Wulanhada Volcano
There are volcanoes 🌋 No. 3, 5, 6, 7, and 8.
Don't miss the Mani Stone Pile 🪨 and Rainbow Road at the entrance of the volcano!
We went to Volcano No. 6 - South Alchemy Furnace. The mountain here is black, which makes for great photos! You can also hold a lamb 🐑 and take photos in a spacesuit or with colored smoke.
You can pick up agate at Volcanoes No. 7 and 8, and you can climb Volcanoes No. 3 and 5, but ⚠️ be careful.

If you are interested, you can go there. We spent too much time taking photos earlier, so it was dark and we didn't go.

I went to Inner Mongolia while traveling in Beijing, so I didn't return to Beijing that day. I stayed in the city for one day and went to Hohhot the next day 💰50.
If you are worried that a one-day trip is too rushed and you need accommodation, I recommend staying 📍 near Happiness Square, which is lively and not far from the station.
If you are from Beijing and want to take a one-day trip to the surrounding area, you can return the same day and save one night's accommodation.

Huanghuagou is a place with undulating mountains and crisscrossing gullies. The two cliffs are steep and winding. When I drove there on September 15, there were few flowers in the scenic area, but the grassland was still green. Although the full fare was not reduced, some projects such as some cable cars, grassland trains, and animal-drawn vehicles were no longer available.
But the scenery in the scenic area is still very beautiful, and the performance is very exciting. There are not many tourists at the moment, so you can enjoy yourself.

The scenery outside the Great Wall is unique in autumn, and the ancient grassland is green as far as the eye can see.
Huanghuagou is a winding valley located in Chahar Right Wing Middle Banner, Ulanqab City, Inner Mongolia. It is a typical geological site and an ancient glacier relic. The valley is more than 10 kilometers long, with a ditch depth of about 300 meters and a width of 100 to 200 meters. Every time when flowers bloom, the ditch is filled with yellow flowers, hence the name "Huanghua ditch"
Huanghuagou has dense forests and towering cypresses. The elastic green lawns in the forest are dotted with blue sky, white clouds, grasslands, yellow flowers and lilies, which add to the beautiful colors of nature. Spring paintings, wonders, forests, exotic flowers and exotic herbs form a large natural garden. The autumn scenery is stunning.

On Friday, the dad gets off work and departs from Beijing. We booked a hotel next to the high-speed rail station, and upon arrival, we rest directly.
DAY1
Rent a car at the high-speed rail station (Ulanqab is more suitable for self-driving tours. The rental price on weekends will be higher than usual. If you are traveling with kids during the summer vacation, try to avoid weekends.)
Eat Shaomai and lamb offal, buy snacks and drinks, and set off

The road conditions on this route are very good. It is recommended to visit in the order of No. 8➡️No. 7➡️No. 6➡️No. 5➡️No. 4➡️No. 3.

Volcano No. 8 and No. 7 are more suitable.
When we arrived at Volcano No. 8, many parents were taking their children to pick agates.
The stones at the bottom of the volcano are colorful. At first, we didn't know and thought the colorful stones were agates, so we picked a big bag😂.
Later, locals said that only the transparent small stones are agates. Many large ones have been picked by locals, but you can still find some.
Make sure to protect kids from the sun, preferably with long pants, sun-protective clothing, and a large sun hat.

This volcano has a more unique color, and there are many places to rent spacesuits.
They asked for 80, but we rented one for 50 (it's recommended to check a few places because the one we rented turned out to be quite old).

You can buy a colored smoke stick, but remember to take your trash with you. There is a lot of litter on the volcano, which is really bad.

There are many yurts here, with prices ranging from 100 to 600. The conditions are definitely not as good as big hotels,

You can buy fireworks here. At night, the yurts around set off fireworks, giving a New Year's vibe.

Huitengxile Grassland does not require a ticket, and there are many parking lots beside the grassland.
Huanghuagou Scenic Area requires a separate ticket.
We found a farm called Baba Farm, which has grass sliding, a small train, feeding lambs, and other activities. My kid had so much fun that he didn't want to leave, so we happily spent the whole afternoon there.
Each activity usually costs 30-50 yuan. You can buy 5 tokens for 150 yuan, which can be used for activities.
Opposite Baba Farm, you can also ride horses. The price varies from 50 to 200 yuan depending on the distance, and it's quite cost-effective.
We originally planned to return to the city in the evening, but we encountered a perfect sunset on the grassland and couldn't bear to leave, so we stayed another night.

Return from Huitengxile Grassland to Ulanqab High-speed Rail Station.
If you are driving, it is recommended to take the 'Jina Line'. The scenery on this route is really beautiful.

Stepping into July in Hohhot, an impromptu trip quietly begins. As night falls, we arrive at this pearl of the grasslands and check into the Inner Mongolia Wanhao Grand Hotel (Baita Airport High-Speed Rail East Station Branch). Its convenient location (only a 10-minute drive from the airport and 1.4 kilometers from the East Station) and thoughtful shuttle and breakfast services make the first night of the journey warm and comfortable.
🌄Day 1-2: Volcano Exploration, Romance Under the Stars
The next morning, the rented vehicle arrives on time, and we drive to the Wulanhada Volcano Group, where a dialogue between time and nature is about to unfold. Upon arrival, we first rest at the Time Volcano Homestay, enjoying the afternoon tranquility. Then, we embark on an exploration journey: horseback and camel riding at Volcano No. 3, astronaut-themed photo shoots at Volcano No. 6, and agate treasure hunting at Volcano No. 8. Every spot is filled with our laughter. At dusk, the sunset atop the volcano and the starry night sky add endless romance to this trip.
🌿Day 3: Galloping on the Grasslands, Mongolian Style
We drive to the Huitengxile Grassland, where the vast sea of green is refreshing. On the grassland, we experience the joy of horseback riding and participate in the grand Zhamayan feast, feeling the rich Mongolian style. Although the experience of staying in a yurt was slightly disappointing, the vastness of the grassland and the coolness of the night made us forget all the unpleasantness.
🌅Day 4: Exploring Huanghuagou, Returning to the City
In the morning, we set off again to Huanghuagou, where a visual and spiritual feast awaits us. Riding the cable car through the ravines, we marvel at nature's craftsmanship. After lunch, we watch the wonderful Xianghui Aobao performance, experiencing the unique charm of Mongolian culture. Then, we return to Hohhot, strolling through the solemn Dazhao Temple and the bustling Saishang Old Street, tasting authentic Mongolian cuisine, and concluding this trip perfectly.
🏞️Day 5: Desert Adventure, Ultimate Experience
If time permits, consider heading to the Xiangshawan Desert to experience the vastness and mystery of the desert. Sand sliding, camel riding, and watching the desert sunset—each activity offers unprecedented excitement and shock. Of course, if you prefer not to travel far, the Inner Mongolia Museum, Dazhao Wuliang Temple, and General's Office in Hohhot are cultural treasures not to be missed.
