Puyang is a prefecture-level city in northeastern Henan province on the northern banks of the Yellow River. It is situated on the border with Hebei and Shandong provinces. The city, which was called Diqiu in ancient times, was one of the birthplaces of Chinese civilization and is home to a number of historical attractions including Dajue Temple, the remains of a city from the Spring and Autumn period and a school visited by Confucius. The city is known as the 'home of the dragon' after a set of dragon-shaped clam shells that was found here.
