Southeast Asia World Heritage Guide (7/31) Sambor Prei Kuk
Visit time: November 2023
✍️Full name: Temple Zone of Sambor Prei Kuk, Archaeological Site of Ancient Ishanapura
📌Location: Sambor Prei Kuk District, Kampong Thom Province, Cambodia
✈️Transportation: Self-driving is recommended. If you plan to buy a motorcycle in Vietnam, it is recommended to ride it to Cambodia, which will be more convenient (I didn't, and I regret it very much). For public transportation, you need to take a bus from Phnom Penh/Siem Reap to Kampong Thom, and then bargain with a tuk-tuk/motorcycle driver. The reference price for a round-trip motorcycle is KHR 50K (about CNY 88), and the driver waited for me for nearly three hours.
🎫Tickets: USD 10 / KHR 40K (about CNY 70), there is a ticket checkpoint, but it is not very strict.
🗺️Protection scope: It is divided into N Group (Sambor Temple), C Group (Dao Temple), S Group (Yipan Temple), and several other smaller temples (P2 map), scattered in the original jungle about 2 km long from north to south and about 800 m wide from east to west. Walking takes a long time, so it is recommended to reserve at least 2–3 hours for a better experience. If you don't have enough time, you can just visit N Group.
👀Highlights: The temple group is older than Angkor. Unlike Angkor, which was in the transition period from Hinduism to Buddhism, Sambor Prei Kuk is a pure Hindu temple group with a large number of Linga Yoni relics (P13-15). The architectural style is also quite different, and you can observe the evolution of architectural styles. Southeast Asia World Heritage Guide (7/31) Sambor Prei Kuk
