Shaoxing·Zhou Enlai's Ancestral Home
⭐Leaving the hometown of the Sage of Calligraphy, walk south along Zhongxing Middle Road, turn west on Labor Road, and you will soon see Zhou Enlai's Ancestral Home. Zhou Enlai's Ancestral Home is a group of buildings built in the Ming Dynasty, where Mr. Zhou Enlai's ancestors lived for generations. The layout is in three axes, covering an area of 2,150 square meters and a building area of 1,680 square meters.
✔️Zhou Enlai's Ancestral Home was originally named Xiyangtang, and later renamed Baisuitang, because the Zhou family had a centenarian. In the 37th year of Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty, the Zhou family member, Mrs. Wang, lived to be 100 years old. The governor gave her a plaque of "Centenarian Mother", and Baisuitang was named after it.
✔️The second floor of the west axis of Baisuitang originally belonged to Mr. Zhou Enlai's grandfather's family, and Mr. Zhou Enlai lived here when he was young. In 1939, Mr. Zhou Enlai returned to his hometown to carry out anti-Japanese united front work, and returned here to worship his ancestors. He was warmly entertained by his relatives and friends, and then had breakfast with some of them.
✔️In the main hall, there is a white marble sculpture of Mr. Zhou Enlai in military uniform when he was young. Under the red curtain, it looks elegant and heroic. The plaque of "Xiyangtang" is hung above, and the couplet on both sides is: Select the virtuous and capable, speak credit and repair harmony, serve the country and the people, and assist the world and the people. This is a poem by the Confucian master Ma Yifu, which was given to Mr. Zhou Enlai. It is taken from the text in "The Book of Rites", expressing his sincere admiration for Mr. Zhou Enlai.
✔️The main hall of Mr. Zhou Enlai's ancestral home is named "Songfentang". It is a place where the Zhou family worships their ancestors during the holidays and also a place for guests. The furnishings in the hall reproduce the original appearance of that year.
✔️The ancestors of the Zhou family of Baoyou Bridge moved here during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty. After Mr. Zhou Enlai's grandfather took office in Jiangsu, he moved to Huai'an, so Mr. Zhou Enlai was born in Huai'an. Mr. Zhou Enlai often said that he was from Shaoxing and called Shaoxing his hometown.
✔️A memorial hall is built on the east side of the ancestral home, mainly displaying Mr. Zhou Enlai's historical origins with Shaoxing and his outstanding contributions to China's liberation and development. He devoted his life to selflessly serving the people, never caring about personal gains and losses, and can be described as "working tirelessly until death".
