Cengzhao Garden, Changshu
Ceng Garden and Zhao Garden in Changshu, Jiangsu, were famous gardens in the Ming and Qing Dynasties in Jiangnan. The two gardens are adjacent to each other, both borrowing Yushan Mountain as a view, with water as the main body, and the scenic spots are built around the pool, interspersed with each other, and the water and mountain scenery are in the same garden.
After crossing Yongchun Bridge, you will reach the entrance of Ceng Garden, a Jiangsu Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit (announced on June 5, 2006).
Ceng Garden is a classical garden building built in the late Qing Dynasty, located in front of Weng Mansion in the southwest corner of Changshu City, Jiangsu Province, adjacent to Zhao Garden. It was originally the site of the Xiaowangchuan of Qian Dai, a censor during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. During the Tongzhi and Guangxu periods of the Qing Dynasty, Zeng Zhizhuan, a Langzhong of the Ministry of Justice, built it as a family garden, called "Xukuo Garden". Borrowing the mountain to take the scenery, the water and mountain scenery are integrated. Ceng Garden has always been a great place to enjoy lotus flowers in the ancient city of Changshu, and is one of the eighteen scenic spots in Changshu. In summer, the lotus leaves in the pond in the garden are lush, the lotus flowers are graceful, and the water is rippling. The pavilions and corridors built by the water are simple and elegant, and they complement the water, sky, and lotus flowers.
Zhao Garden is part of the site of the "Xiaowangchuan" built by Qian Dai, a censor during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. During the Jiaqing and Daoguang periods of the Qing Dynasty, it was owned by Wu Junji, a native of the county, and was originally named Shuihu Garden, also known as Shuiwu Garden. During the Tongzhi and Guangxu periods of the Qing Dynasty, the garden belonged to Zhao Liewen, a native of Yanghu, now Changzhou, and the door plaque was "Jingpu", commonly known as Zhaowu Garden. The whole garden is famous for its water scenery, and all the scenery is built around the water, interspersed with each other, and arranged properly.
Free admission
The small parking lot at the entrance can only park about ten cars, and you can park on both sides of the road in front of the door, smart parking.

Suzhou's 36th Garden.
Suzhou's 36th Garden: Zhao Garden
Zhao Garden, also known as Shuiwu Garden, was originally part of the ruins of Ming Xiaowangchuan. In the 4th year of the Tongzhi period of the Qing dynasty (1865), the garden was owned by Zhao Liewen of Yanghu, and was completed in the 14th year of the Guangxu period.
Zhao Garden is backed by the southern foot of Yushan Mountain, with the Xicheng Pavilion on the mountainside and the Xinfeng Pavilion on the top of the mountain in full view. The rippling water in the garden blends with the mountain and water, like a natural landscape painting.

The Forgotten Suzhou Gardens - Zeng Garden and Zhao Garden, quiet and waiting for you
🎈Suzhou Free Garden Exploration | Zeng Garden and Zhao Garden Tour🎈
Baozis👫, the gardens in Suzhou are really always so popular, even those that were not very noticeable before are now overcrowded😵. However, I have discovered a super great place, which is the Zhao Garden·Zeng Garden in Changshu!😍
These two gardens are located at the foot of Yushan Mountain, originally one entity, and later divided into two parts. Zeng Garden, that has been around since the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty, when the imperial censor Qian Dai built the 'Xiaowuchuan' here. Later, the Zeng family bought the eastern half and named it 'Xu Kuoyuan'.
As soon as you enter Zeng Garden, wow, the first thing you see is a huge screen wall with 'Xu Kuoyuan Village Residence' written on it, which feels super cool😎. Walking along the stele corridor, you will encounter a 365-year-old camphor tree, whose canopy covers the entire courtyard, creating a particularly tranquil atmosphere. The essence of Zeng Garden is that body of water, which is drawn from the inner city river of Changshu, and it's living water. Rockeries, waterside pavilions, willows, floating bridges, pavilions, all arranged in a scattered and orderly fashion, simply stunning🤩, from the full pond of lotus leaves to the reflection of Yushan Mountain in the distance, all in this pool of water.
This is also the former residence of the famous late Qing novelist Zeng Pu, who completed one of the four great denunciatory novels of the late Qing Dynasty, 'Flowers in the Sea of Sin', here. Now there is also a Zeng Pu Memorial Hall in the garden, and outside the hall is a super precious red bean tree, a treasure left from the 'Xiaowuchuan' period of the Ming Dynasty.
Passing through the moon gate 'Han Xu Tian Jing' between Zeng Garden and Zhao Garden, you arrive at Zhao Garden. The owner of Zhao Garden, Zhao Liewen, was an aide to Zeng Guofan and became famous for his prophecy. He said that the fate of the late Qing would end, and it must perish within 50 years, and it really came true.
The architectural style of Zhao Garden is somewhat similar to that of Zeng Garden, but it feels more simple and grand. There is a clear pond in the garden, and next to the pond is a two-story building called 'Si Fang'. The words 'Si Fang' on the plaque were personally inscribed by Zhao Liewen, perhaps he also looked far away from here, watching the world change.
Now, Zhao Garden has become a place for Changshu people to drink tea. For them, everywhere is a teahouse, including the gardens. On the longest corridor in the west, tea tables are filled, and we can also taste the fragrant tea here, and truly feel the tranquility and beauty of the garden.
In short, Zeng Garden and Zhao Garden are really two super beautiful gardens, they not only have a long history and profound cultural heritage but also let us feel that unique tranquility and beauty. If you have the chance to visit Changshu, be sure to come here and experience the charm of the gardens in the south of the Yangtze River.💖

The place is sparsely populated and scenically beautiful, a must-visit for its ancient charm in Changshu
"The scenery of the south of the Yangtze River is exquisite, most memorable at Bilian, where ladies graceful as fairies, send their fragrance afar with the breeze."
Last June, I strolled through the small town of Changshu, where the lotuses in Zhao Garden became the protagonists in my heart. Although the trumpet creepers are beautiful, it is the lotus that truly captures my heart. Standing quietly by the pond, watching the lotuses sway like dancers, twirling with the summer breeze.

Must-Visit Places in Changshu: Few People, Beautiful Scenery
Must-Visit Places in Changshu: Few People, Beautiful Scenery.
For those who want to stroll through gardens but are afraid of crowds, you're in luck!
Zhao Yuan and Zeng Yuan are great choices👍🏻
I used to always go to Fangta Garden, which is already very beautiful. This time I passed by Zhao Yuan and Zeng Yuan, went in for a visit, and it's really, really pretty. I took countless live photos with my phone.
Compared to Fangta Garden, these gardens have far fewer people, making them very suitable for relaxation or appreciating the gardens, perfect for snapping photos📷. On the day I went, there were many ladies in cheongsams taking pictures in the garden, which made for a very complementary scene. Deeper inside the garden, there's a tea house where you can relax with a few good friends. The garden is quite large, and if you stroll slowly, it feels like you could wander for an hour or two.
1. There's no need to buy a ticket for the garden; you can enter directly upon arrival.
2. Navigate to Zhao Yuan and Zeng Yuan, or take a bus to the First People's Hospital and walk forward for about 200 meters to get there.
Spring is the most beautiful season in Suzhou, and for those who want to experience the charm of the Jiangnan region, I suggest visiting in spring. You won't be disappointed!

Cangshu Zengzhao Garden, a combined Jiangnan garden of two gardens!
Zengzhao Garden, originally named Xukuo Garden, covers an area of more than 20 acres. It was originally part of the relics of the 'Xiaowanchuan' garden of Qian Dai, an imperial inspector during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, and was purchased by the Zeng family during the Qing Dynasty's Tongzhi era. Zeng Garden is adjacent to Zhao Garden, and one can enter both gardens from Zeng Garden. Zengzhao Garden has a history of over a hundred years and is a typical Jiangnan classical garden.
At first, Zengzhao Garden seemed to be a small classical garden, but because the two gardens are combined, the place is not so small. We played all morning and didn't want to leave, so beautiful! Every step reveals a new scene, how wonderful!

Changshu | Zhao Garden Zeng Garden, lake and mountain scenery share a garden
✨Zhao Garden and Zeng Garden in Changshu, Suzhou are two adjacent gardens that are interconnected and are one of the must-visit free attractions in Changshu. They are both classical garden buildings built in the late Qing Dynasty and were once the old site of Qian Dai's 'Xiao Wan Chuan' during the Ming Dynasty. It was not until the Qianjia period of the Qing Dynasty that they were divided into two gardens.
📖Zhao Garden is also known as 'Shui Wu Garden', and Zeng Garden is also known as 'Xu Kuo Garden'. The two gardens borrow the scenery of Yu Mountain, have similar layouts, and both have clear pools, rockeries, and winding corridors. Walking in them is leisurely and the scenery is poetic and picturesque.
🏮I went during the National Day holiday, and there were not many tourists overall. The garden is not big, but there are many highlights. There are only remnants of lotus leaves in the pool in the garden. If you want to see a garden full of lotus flowers, it is recommended to come and watch from June to August each year.
🔹I particularly like the Wind Greeting Bridge in the west side pool. The bridge body is very narrow, with railings on only one side, and they are also very low, so you have to be extra careful when walking. There is a pavilion in the middle of the bridge. Some people sit in it and daydream, while others set up cameras to shoot the cheerful fish in the pool. A row of tables and chairs are placed in the Dianchun Corridor on one side, and tourists are sipping tea from the teahouse in the garden, accompanied by snacks, and talking and laughing. Perhaps this is the comfortable life of a slow-paced small town.

I can’t get enough of Jiangnan Rain|A slow tour of Changshu Zeng Zhaoyuan on a rainy day is like walking into a poem and painting
✍️
Walking in the rain in Changshu Zeng Zhao Garden,
The autumn rain is falling a little quickly,
Hiding on the porch and watching the rain,
The raindrops under the eaves turned into lines between the gray tiles,
My eyes are like a veil,
The scenery in the garden becomes soft and blurry,
I like the hazy beauty of Jiangnan, misty rain,
This moment is so graceful and beautiful.
💁🏻♀️
By the lotus pond in Zeng Zhaoyuan,
There is an excellent vantage point to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Ximen Pavilion of Yushan Mountain.
Every time I come to Zeng Zhaoyuan,
I will stand here and look far away from Mount Yu.
Yushan in the rain,
Like a newly painted fresh ink painting,
The smoke is lingering,
The pavilions and pavilions are like shadows now in the light mist,
Beautiful, delicate and charming.
🍃
Walking in the garden in the rain,
Looking at the elegant garden scenery,
The dust is washed away by the rain and becomes cleaner and more transparent.
It always makes my mood clear in an instant,
The worries in my heart,
I was also stretched and soothed at this moment.
🌧️
The rain is blowing lightly,
Poetic and picturesque,
In the corridor tea room,
There was a burst of hearty laughter,
Breaking the tranquility of the garden,
I was so scared that the raindrops fell on the surface of the pond,
Jumping out of the water,
This blooming water flower,
With those bursts of laughter,
It's actually a bit cute.
💃
The rockery next to the shipyard,
Never wanted to be noticed,
In the past few days, because of several Bianhua flowers in full bloom,
And the charm is leaked.
red flower of the other side,
It blooms very coquettishly in the rain,
Exuding the fragrance of bloodthirsty,
Raindrops hang on the slender flower needles,
Beauty is truly beautiful.
🍒
The pomegranate tree beside the ancient bridge,
This year the house is full of descendants,
There are many red fruits,
It’s extremely gratifying to look at.
Autumn colors in the garden,
Because of this pomegranate tree full of red fruits beside the ancient bridge,
It's a little more lively and festive.
🌿
The rain is still falling,
Go to Zeng Zhaoyuan,
Wander yourself in the drizzle,
Enjoy the autumn colors of Jiangnan gardens,
Bring a touch of autumn into your heart.
Such a Jiangnan garden rain scene,
But what do you like?
✅Must experience:
It is very pleasant to sit on the promenade near the pond and order a cup of green tea. It is very pleasant to drink tea and enjoy the autumn in the garden. Only in the south of the Yangtze River can such a beautiful garden be blessed.

When I walked into Zeng Zhaoyuan, the door was not big, but after I went in, I found that there was a great deal. The garden design is very clever, mainly based on the water surface. The surrounding buildings are cleverly arranged, and the scenery is beautiful, and the water and mountains are integrated. The pond is the crowning touch of the whole garden. There is no leaning pavilion in the pool. The pavilion is written by Zeng Pu.
The novelist Zeng Pu completed the "Bohai Flower" in Zengyuan.
Zeng Zhaoyuan, the wonderful scenery is always fascinating. In the early morning, the light of the tiny light passes through the pores of the leaves, and the fine white walls are shredded and warmed. The warm sun in the afternoon is sprinkled obliquely on the stone bench in the courtyard. A book or a friend can sit in the afternoon; The slightly sloppy sunset over the thin garden, the time seems to be slow to never flow away, rest and rest, it is satisfied.
