Festivals
The Zao Juhyo Festival is held in Zao Onsen, southeast of Yamagata City, at the southern foot of the Zao mountain range. Zao Onsen is considered one of Japan's premier ski destinations. From late December to early March, a series of events are held in conjunction with the festival. One famous event is the 1,000-person torch run, where skiers carry torches down the slopes. There are also winter fireworks festivals that light up the slopes and a show of giant snowplows, machines designed to challenge the winter snowfall.

【Yamagata, Japan】Zao Juhyo|A Juhyo Tour with Wind and Snow
The Zao Ice Tree is really amazing! It was the first time I saw the trees on the mountain covered with ice and snow into strange shapes. The whole white scene was like entering a fantasy world of ice and snow. The frost trees look a bit like giant monsters. Although we can only see them through the glass due to the heavy snow and wind, it is still really amazing. The ski resort is also great. Next time I plan to come here to ski and watch the frost trees. This time when I came to Zao, I not only saw the wonders of nature, but I was also completely attracted by the winter atmosphere here. It is a place definitely worth visiting!

The splendid view of the snow

Zao tree ice, a winter-only art created by nature. The appearance of huge tree ice lined up, also known as snow monsters, is mysterious. The time when tree ice can be seen varies slightly depending on the region, but the guideline is from late December to late March.
If you want to see tree ice, we recommend late January to late February, where you can see beautiful and large tree ice. When the temperature is high, the snow melts, and it is difficult to snow even if it is too low, so the time to see tree ice is quite short.
If you go to see the tree ice, adjust the time carefully.
