Yuyuan Gardens are beautiful to visit any time of year. However, during the Chinese Lantern Festival everything is decorated and looks lovely! There are plenty of places inside to eat and shop as well. I bought an engraved pearl necklace and pieces of jade while visiting (be prepared to haggle as it’s part of the culture). I believe it was 50 rmb to visit during the festival.

Explore the largest private garden in Nanjing, Yuyuan
Yuyuan, also known as Hu's Garden, is the largest existing private garden in Nanjing, characterized by its tranquil waters and rocks, and rich in wild charm. Located in the west of the southern gate of the old city, it is part of the Confucius Temple-Qinhuai Scenic Belt.
Yuyuan's history can be traced back to the Qing Dynasty during the Tongzhi era, when the candidate prefect Hu Enxie resigned and returned to his hometown. He purchased the former site of the Ming Dynasty's Wei Gong West Garden and established Yuyuan on this basis. In 1982, Yuyuan was listed as one of the first batch of cultural relics protection units in Nanjing. In 2010, the School of Architecture at Southeast University began to repair and protect Yuyuan based on the hand-drawn plan of Yuyuan by Mr. Tong Jun. The restored Yuyuan has a very distinctive feature of compatibility between the north and the south, and its natural landscape is naturally formed. The layout is more spacious and atmospheric, yet also intricately exquisite and beautiful. Yuyuan can be said to be the most representative of Nanjing's garden characteristics.

Yuyuan Garden in Nanjing captures the essence of willows drunk with spring mist from ancient poetry
Yuyuan Garden in Nanjing, in the sunny March, not only has the colorful flowers but also the willows sprouting new buds. Taking a walk in Yuyuan Garden, you can see the willows by the lake swaying like green bead curtains in the wind, which is the most charming time of the year for willows.
🍃 Willows drunk with spring mist, full of poetic charm
The slender and long willow branches gradually reveal tender green, gently brushing over the water surface in the breeze, like a young girl with her long, flowing hair hanging down, so lively and beautiful. The spring breeze smiles, and the willows are like smoke, it's truly the heavenly March on earth.
🏞️ Yuyuan, the largest private garden in Nanjing
Located in the Laomenxi area of Qinhuai District, within the scenic belt of Confucius Temple in Qinhuai, Yuyuan is the largest private garden in Nanjing, also known as Hu's Garden. In addition to the new willow buds, plum blossoms and camellias are in full bloom, while magnolias and apricot flowers are nearing their end.
🌸 In spring, Yuyuan Garden cannot confine all its spring colors
Only by visiting Yuyuan Garden in spring can one understand what it means to be unable to confine all its spring colors.

A spring day's journey to Yu Garden in Nanjing, where the apricot blossoms turn your friends' circle upside down
Spring breeze for ten miles is not as good as a sea of apricot blossoms in Nanjing's Yu Garden. Today, let me take you into the spring of this ancient capital and experience a day of flower viewing.
🌿【Morning 9:00】
The morning air in Nanjing is already filled with a faint fragrance of flowers. Our starting point is the historic Yu Garden, which not only has antique architecture but also the most enchanting protagonist of spring—the blooming apricot blossoms.
Wandering through the paths of Yu Garden, you will find that each apricot blossom is telling its own story. They are either delicate, shy, or passionate, and each branch and petal is extraordinarily vivid. Remember to bring your camera, as every corner here is a perfect spot for taking beautiful pictures.
📷【Morning 10:30】
Don't hurry to leave, every part of Yu Garden has different scenery. Find a quiet corner or beside a simple pavilion, and take a photo with the apricot blossoms. This will be the most beautiful landscape photo in your friends' circle.
🌸【Noon 12:00】
If you're tired from walking, why not enjoy lunch at a small restaurant near Yu Garden? Nanjing's snacks are famously delicious, with duck blood vermicelli soup, xiaolongbao, and salted duck, each bite is a supreme temptation for the taste buds.
🌿【Afternoon 14:00】
After lunch, we continue to find the overlooked beauty in Yu Garden. Perhaps it's an ancient stone bridge, or a pond as clear as the sky, or a group of playful fish.
🌸【Afternoon 15:30】
Every step in Yu Garden is worth savoring slowly. If you prefer a more tranquil environment, find a place away from the crowd, sit down, and quietly enjoy the peace and fragrance of the flowers.
🍃【Evening 17:30】
As the sun sets, the apricot blossoms in Yu Garden appear softer and more dreamlike in the afterglow. This is the best moment for flower viewing and also the time to say goodbye.
🌟【Evening 18:30】
After a day of flower viewing, if you are still immersed in the beautiful sea of flowers and cannot extricate yourself, consider choosing a stylish restaurant, order a glass of fine wine or a pot of good tea, and let the beauty of the day linger on your taste buds.
The apricot blossoms of Nanjing's Yu Garden are the most beautiful poem of spring. In just one day, you can not only feel the fragrance of the flowers but also experience the historical culture and the breath of life of the city of Nanjing. This is my one-day flower viewing guide in Nanjing, and I hope it brings you a visual and spiritual feast.
GRAHAM COOK
During a spring outing to Yuyuan Garden in Nanjing, I encountered the spring and Jingming for the ten thousandth time
🌸When visiting Nanjing in spring, besides the Jiming Temple, Xuanwu Lake, Laomendong, and Confucius Temple,
if you have time, you can also come to see the garden architecture of Nanjing.
Nanjing's garden architecture is not plentiful, but it excels in being exquisite and delicate.
The Yuyuan Garden, the largest private garden in Nanjing at the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China,
is also known as the 'Lion Grove Garden of Jinling'.
⛲️Yuyuan Garden, also known as Hu's Garden, is located in the west area of the southern gate of the old city.
✨It is a combination of Suzhou-style gardens and Huizhou-style houses.
🧱With its grey bricks, small tiles, horse head walls, and corridors with hanging windows,
✖️it is hidden within the streets to the west of the old city.
🍃With pavilions, terraces, towers, serene waters and rocks, it is extremely rich in natural charm.
Yuyuan Garden is a less popular attraction in Nanjing, and there are very few people every time I visit.
But it is truly a hidden gem, with pavilions and towers standing by the lake, and every corner is ingeniously designed.
The magnolia and apricot flowers in the garden are already in full bloom, and the beauty plum blossoms are also flourishing.
The willow trees by the Yuhu Lake are also very beautiful, and there are ducks raised in the lake🦆.
It truly lives up to the reputation of 'February days with willows intoxicating the spring air'.
⭕️Tour route:
🚶Enter from the east gate and start the tour on the right-hand side.

The Nanjing Yuyuan Garden has captured the essence of willows intoxicated by the spring mist, as described in ancient poetry, during the vibrant month of March. Not only are there flowers in brilliant purples and reds, but also willows sprouting new shoots.

Yuyuan Garden is located in the Laomenxi area of Qinhuai District, within the Confucius Temple Qinhuai Scenic Area. It is the largest private garden in Nanjing, also known as the Hu Family Garden. In addition to the new willow shoots, plum blossoms and camellias are in full bloom, while magnolias and apricot flowers are nearing their end.
Visiting this garden in spring, one truly understands the meaning of 'no power can contain the beauty of spring in the garden!' It's just too wonderful.

Compared to the crowded Yulan magnolias at Chaotian Palace, 99% of people don't know about this place
Every March when the magnolias bloom, Chaotian Palace and Linggu Temple are undoubtedly the top attractions🆙
But I want to say, Yu Garden, this niche spot, is absolutely 💯 not inferior.
Compared to the popular spots where people are packed like sardines🔥, 99% of people don't know about this place.
⛲️Yu Garden, also known as Hu's Garden, is located in the west area of the South Gate of the old city.
It is one of the few remaining private gardens in Nanjing.
🍃The water and rocks are serene and full of wild charm.
Yu Garden is a combination of Suzhou-style gardens and Huizhou-style houses.
With its grey bricks, small tiles, horse head walls, and corridors with hanging windows and flower-patterned grilles,
when the white magnolias blend with the classical garden,
it's really too perfect‼️
Yu Garden is considered a niche spot in Nanjing, and it's always sparsely populated whenever I go.
But it's truly a hidden gem, with pavilions and towers standing by the lake, each corner is uniquely designed.
Behind the rockeries, several magnolia trees are already in full bloom.
The magnolia blooming period is very short, hurry up and go take pictures!

Where can you go in Shanghai for 3 days with a child?
Here is a detailed 3-day itinerary in Shanghai:
Day 1: Arrive at Hongqiao Railway Station at noon, then check in at a homestay on Nanjing East Road. After settling in, start exploring Shanghai.
Remaining time on Day 1: Eat Shengjian Bao on Nanjing East Road - M Bean Flagship Store - Lego Flagship Store - Yu Garden - Return to the accommodation.
Day 2: Shanghai Planetarium - Yuyuan Road - Dingxi Road - Return to the accommodation - The Bund - Daimaru Department Store to experience the turning elevator - Return to the accommodation.
Day 3: Tongji University - Xuhui Academy - Xuhui Catholic Church - Shanghai Center Tower and its surroundings - Yu Garden - Return to the accommodation.
Half day on Day 4: Take the subway from the accommodation to Pudong International Airport, then take the Maglev back, and visit the Maglev Science Museum at the same time. Then leave Shanghai by train at noon.
Summary:
1. Always walking, so shoes are important.
2. Shanghai's Shengjian Bao is really delicious. The Shengjian Bao next to our accommodation is eaten by local residents, and it's not worse than the popular restaurants.
3. Originally wanted to go to Fudan University Handan Campus, but didn't make a reservation. Went to nearby Tongji University instead, which was also very good.
4. If the weather is bad, you can skip the Shanghai Center Tower. We went there on a cloudy and rainy day, but because we were leaving the next day, we still went up, thinking that maybe the clouds were only halfway up, and at least we could see the scenery above the clouds. But after going up, we couldn't see anything in the white fog. However, we didn't go in vain, we took the fastest elevator in the world.
5. Couldn't make a reservation for the Planetarium online, but you can queue up on the spot on the day. We bought tickets on the spot.
6. The peach gum soup with glutinous rice balls and papaya milk at Tangwu Sugar Water House on Yuyuan Road is really delicious, 28 yuan for a bowl.
7. When traveling with a child, you need to be mentally prepared. Whether you can walk or not, whether the child is interested in the places you go, directly affects the quality of the trip. I discussed with my child about the places we went, so the overall atmosphere of the trip was harmonious.
Tips:
1. How to make a reservation to visit Fudan University? Search for 'Fudan Information Office' on WeChat.
2. There are tickets for the Planetarium on the spot, when does the queue start? You can queue up to buy tickets on the spot, the specific time depends on the situation of the day.
I tried to grab tickets for several days but didn't get any. But my child is interested in astronomy, so I checked a lot of strategies at the time, saying that you can also queue up to buy tickets on the spot on the day. I wasn't sure, so I called the Planetarium. The staff answered quite tactfully, 'If there are returned tickets, there will be some tickets on the spot, but you need to queue up early.'
Our situation on the day was like this:
We originally planned to queue up at 8:30 in the morning, but because it was raining and cold in the morning, we were afraid that the child would catch a cold, so we didn't rush and arrived at around 9:20. When we arrived, we started to queue up. Maybe because the weather was bad, there weren't many people in line in front of us. Tickets started to be sold at 9:30, and it took less than 20 minutes for us to enter the venue. We were quite lucky.
Transportation:
1. We took the subway from Nanjing East Road Subway Station to Drip Lake Subway Station, and it took less than an hour and a half without taking the direct Line 16 or the big station bus.
2. Drip Lake Subway Station - Planetarium, you can walk, it's quite close. We took a taxi at the time because we were in a hurry to buy tickets and were afraid of delaying time.
Queue:
There are two queues on the spot, the right queue (near the ticket window) is for buying tickets on the spot, and the other queue is for those who have made reservations online.
Many strategies say that there is already a long queue at 8:30 in the morning, but when we arrived at nearly half past nine, there were only about a hundred people in front of us, so it depends on the situation. Our situation on the day was a working day during the winter vacation and the weather was not very good (it was only raining in the morning, and it had stopped raining when we arrived at the Planetarium).

Strolling in the famous Nanjing Yuyuan Garden, a pleasant time in the winter afternoon
After entering Yuyuan Garden, walking around Yuhu Lake, every step is a scene, a rare pleasant time in the afternoon. Walking outdoors, the winding paths are all paved with stones of similar size, which have a unique charm. Yuyuan Garden is a famous Jiangnan garden in the late Qing Dynasty, known as the 'Lion Garden of Jinling'.

Be sure to visit these three streets before leaving Shanghai
🔸Nanjing Road
Nanjing Road is near the Huangpu River🌊, the sky is often covered with thick clouds☁️, but the diversified and modern buildings just outline a layered picture with the clouds🎨. Elements from all over the world are gathered here📍, walking on the street, you may even have a hard time figuring out where you are, which is quite mysterious🔮
🔸Wukang Road
Wukang Road is known as the "famous road" that "condenses Shanghai's modern history of nearly a hundred years", with many protected excellent historical buildings🏘. The most famous Wukang Building has also become the TOP1⃣ check-in place in Shanghai. Taking a walk and taking pictures here📸 is really a top enjoyment🥂
🔸Yuyuan Road
The ancient buildings on this road were built by architects from Italy, Spain, and the UK. The lofts have gorgeous decorations🎊, strong colors🎨, and exquisite shapes, full of European style🏰. At the same time, there are many Chinese-style lofts🏯, which also fully display the characteristics of Chinese classical architecture🎈

Compared to Zhan Yuan, I am more fond of this hidden treasure garden!
Zhan Yuan and Yu Yuan, the two gardens are close to each other, located in the bustling Confucius Temple Qinhuai Scenic Belt.
But personally, I prefer Yu Yuan. Although it is not as stunning as Zhan Yuan, it is more Zen in the downtown, and the garden is quiet, the scenery is beautiful and there are few people, which contains the deep meaning of 'great wisdom is like stupidity, and great hidden in the city'.
This visit was not deliberate, but just happened on a sunny day. I was in a good mood, and naturally woke up and decided to walk around. Ironing the newly acquired small iron, enjoying the warmth of the sun, sitting under the maple tree watching the sparkling lake, tasting a cup of coffee, it is a very healing enjoyment!
Yu Yuan is located in Laomen West, Qinhuai District, Nanjing. It is a famous Jiangnan garden in the late Qing Dynasty and is known as the 'Jinling Lion Forest'. It is commonly known as Hu's Garden, because the owner of Yu Yuan at that time was the Hu family. The entire garden is not large, but it is composed of houses and gardens, and it wins with water and stone landscapes. There is a poem praising: 'The city's best victory is tired, and I feel that Yu Yuan's water and stone are strange'.
Such a beautiful Yu Yuan, waiting for you to explore!
