angyun, Dali, Yunnan Post - The earliest place called Yunnan - The widest Ancient Tea Horse Road and the largest horse inn
👉I've known about Yunnan Post for a long time, passing it countless times on trips from Kunming to the western Yunnan region. It is the first place called Yunnan, from the 'Yunnan County' more than 2100 years ago during the Western Han Dynasty, to 'Yunnan Commandery', and then to the present-day 'Yunnan Post'. It is known as the 'Origin of Yunnan'.
For some reason, I never visited this ancient Tea Horse town.
👉This time, during the holiday period, firstly, I happened to be in Dali, and secondly, I couldn't go to the overly popular scenic spots, so Yunnan Post, as a niche attraction, was just perfect.

🌼What to see at Yunnan Post:
1️⃣One of the best-preserved ancient Tea Horse Road post stations. There is a group of 'National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units' ancient architectural complexes, with many two-story buildings on the old street, indicating the prosperity of the past. Even more impressive is the 'Li Family Courtyard' which has 6 courtyards that are protected ancient buildings, a strength that is astonishing even today.
2️⃣The widest section of the Ancient Tea Horse Road. The nearly 2km old street of Yunnan Post was also part of the ancient Tea Horse Road, and it is the widest, with a width of 3.4 to 6.0 meters, allowing two teams of horses to pass side by side. The prosperity of the past is still evident. In the middle of the road, there is a central line made of strip-shaped stones (locally called 'leading horse stones'), much like the center lines on modern roads, a testament to the wisdom of ancient China.
3️⃣The largest horse inn. Yunnan Post was a key point on the ancient road, and all horse caravans from Kunming to western Yunnan, Tibet, and even Myanmar and India had to pass through Yunnan Post for rest and resupply. Over time, the largest horse inn in Yunnan Province was born here - Qianji Horse Inn, which is now part of the 'Yunnan Horse Caravan Culture Museum'. It is said that at its peak, it could accommodate more than 300 horses a day, requiring over a thousand kilograms of fodder, a truly spectacular sight. The museum displays a large number of caravan tools, caravan jargon, caravan songs, and introduces the Yunnan pony, worth a visit.
4️⃣The 'Caravan Museum' diagonally opposite the World War II Memorial Hall records and reflects the joint efforts to build the wartime highway (Stilwell Road) and the Flying Tigers' airfield.
