extraordinary open-air museum
Yorkshire Sculpture Park is an outdoor art museum located in Wakefield, which is 30 min by car from Leeds , or 1.5 hours from Manchester. The property - situated on the 500 acre 18th century Breton Hall estate - is the largest sculpture park in UK. There is a permanent collection as well as temporary artworks which are changed every few months. Artworks from some of the leading artists in the world are on display, including Barbara Hepworth, Henry Moore, and David Nash. We were also excited to see the works by Damien Hirst on our visit.
Majority of the artwork are placed outdoor, with selected pieces inside the 6 galleries. There is also a restaurant inside the main building, where lunch is served - burger, pizza, sandwiches- are all available. There are indoor and outdoor seatings, and the outdoor tables has a great view of the museum park.
The Yorkshire Sculpture Park is a fantastic place for family or art lovers to view large size sculptures, and at the same time enjoy nature . As the property is quite huge, it would take at least half a day to walk and view all the pieces at ease. There are many photo opportunities!
Entrance fee is £6 for adult, and free for children under 18. Tickets can be booked online in advance, and free parking is available.

Yorkshire Sculpture Park
#uktrip I visit York Sculpture Park for a dog rescue event that takes place there in September every year.
We have never walked around the whole park. Just small areas of the park.
There's a cafe and toilet facilities.
It's paid parking and entry.
Nice place to walk the dogs.
Lovely place with both indoor and outdoor art spread over a very large and beautiful park. Great coffee shop/restaurant and a shop that is far too tempting to spend your hard earned cash in. It's our regular stop off when we are driving London/Glasgow/London.

The vast, open space allowed me to enjoy a relaxing walk while taking in the magnificent sculptures. I was particularly drawn to the giant pieces scattered throughout the park. Each one had its own charm and was set against the stunning backdrop of rolling hills. The tranquil environment made it the perfect spot to spend a few hours away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

It’s not just sculptures
When you hear the name Yorkshire Sculpture park of course the first thing that will spring to mind is the sculptures that are find far and wide across this park, however that shouldn’t be the only reason to visit.
On a crisp but sunny winters day this has to be one of the best places in the area for a seasonal stroll, with acre upon acre of parkland to discover all alongside a beautiful lake. The park is so large that even on the busiest of days you will definitely be able to find yourself a spot of tranquility #magicalxmastrip
