#citywalk York is one of my favourite places I have been to in the UK. And it’s easy to see why! One of the must do when in York is to walk along the ancient city walls. The walls were constructed during the Roman times as a form of defence for the city. It is roughly 3.4km long in total, making it the longest town walls in England. The walls are split into different sections, with several entrance and exit points. There are lots of historic views and photo opportunities. It was unlike anything we have ever experienced before. The walls are well preserved and kept and held so much history. We loved exploring the city through the walls as we got to avoid the traffic and also had a bird’s eye view of the city. Some parts of the wall are narrow, so some patience is needed especially when it’s crowded as we had to take turns to pass. Also, please be careful if visiting with children as there are some parts of the wall that has no barrier. So close supervision is needed. Otherwise, the city walls are a beautiful way to see York and all that it has to offer. You have to visit here if you ever get the chance.

York has a lot to see for a day trip, so definitely reserve 5-6 hours to walk around and enjoy a good lunch! For most people, the first thing to do when arriving to York by train is to walk the City Wall. Built in the 13th-14th Century, the York city wall has the most intact wall in all of England. walking along the wall will lead one to the city center where the St Mary’s Abbey, York Minister, the Shambles, Clifford Tower and as well the Railway Museum are located. Their invasion was succeed and settled in York. At that time, York was called Eboracum by Roman. Then, the saxon called its English name as Eoforwick. 📍 Itinerary Overview Day 1 arrived at York station short walk on the city walls, 45 minutes city cruise on the river oose, coffee at the national railway museum checked into hostel for a few hours rest night walk around the city, shambles, York minister light show food at 'sparks' food court. Day 2 - checked out and chat with new friends at the hostel in the morning. holy trinity church (historical displays of the history of York and the church) 2 course meal at regency Chinese restaurant back to the station to go home. 🏖️ Must-Visit Attractions. york minister at night! I love to explore the city at night. The York minister was especially beautiful at night and the light show that was happening there was beautiful showing the story of York. same goes for the shambles with the crooked houses/shops on either side and cobbled streets. if you have a family the railway museum is a must. free entry but they welcome donations. the cruise is a welcomed rest after a long journey and a great way to soak up the fresh air and learn a little about York and it's history without breaking a sweat. 🚇 Transportation the train to York and back was the Edinburgh to Portsmouth train and i have to say it was very busy and hard to get a seat. although ran on time and was reasonably priced. there is a land train to and from the city centre to the railway museum. great for little legs as it's a fair walk. 🍜 Local Cuisine £12 for the 45 minutes onboard. upper open and lower closed deck. food and drinks served. fish and chips smelt amazing. 🏠 Accommodation 1.Safestay York Micklegate perfect for my small budget. great location. only cost 13 pounds for the night. shared dorms with ensuite. curtains around the beds for privacy. there is no lift so be prepared for stairs but otherwise the staff are great and met some lovely people. 💡 Tips worth checking out the too good to go app on your trip. i collected a bag of pastries for 3.19 on arrival to York from a station shop. great way to eat on a budget. there's plenty to do and see for free if you're on a budget. the only thing i paid to do was the cruise. i didnt pay to go in the York minister but i did however go into Holy trinity which was free to enter and a beautiful place to see but also has so much information in it about the history of York the romans, vikings,monks and the church history. very interesting.
